: 12.12 @ 112.70mph with cam and bolt-ons.
Patrick G 03-01-2009, 07:29 AM Finally got some good weather to run the Jeep with the latest bolt-ons. With bone stock heads, Frank Racing Little Boy camshaft, FRI ported intake manifold, American Racing 1 3/4" headers with dual cats, BWoody CAI, Magnaflow catback with 3" dual resonators, my Jeep ran 5 times in the 12 teens. Here are my best two runs.

http://www.guerragroup.com/12.13_2-28-09.jpg
If those numbers are hard to read, the best ET was 12.1213 @ 112.70mph. 60' time was 1.6962, 1/8 mile time was 7.7140 @ 88.97mph. Weather conditions were 30.35 barometer, 48 degrees F, 29.2% humidity. Density altitude at the track was -950 according to our weather station. Gotta love how hard these heavy beasts can launch. Now if I could only get CMR for my Jeep, I might be able to better fine-tune it and reach for the 11s with stock heads! :)
Your times are awesome for what you have done. Congrats.
BuilderBill 03-01-2009, 07:52 AM Amazing!
Great runs.

Grip Grip 03-01-2009, 07:53 AM Any pointers for the rest of us? :)
cobrakid 03-01-2009, 07:55 AM ...awesome, so you are saying you ran those incredible numbers without a tune ??????
Patrick G 03-01-2009, 08:02 AM ...awesome, so you are saying you ran those incredible numbers without a tune ??????The Jeep was originally tuned a year ago by James Howard (now at Hennessey) while he was with Frank Racing. Since then, we've been limited to making timing and fuel changes with the Diablosport handheld programmer. It certainly does not give us the full tuning capability of having CMR, but we do have the fuel and timing optimized on the chassis dyno as best as possible. I gave more detail about the tuning in this thread in November 2008: http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21464
SRT8 4 J 03-01-2009, 08:20 AM those are kick azz times...would us guys with basically a stock exhaust system(magnaflow muffler/reso delete/CAI/CMR tune) benefit from just a cam only? OR is doing the intake manifold and headers a must with a cam?
panajeep 03-01-2009, 08:25 AM nice times congratulations

OR is doing the intake manifold and headers a must with a cam?The cam was one of my early bolt-ons. Last year, I ran a 12.49 at 108mph with this same 214/218 .565/.555 114LSA cam, stock exhaust manifolds and cats, stock catback, ported intake, BWoody CAI and tune. U were runnin good all night. there were 2 jeep srt8's runnib. i think i might have talked to you. did u see that chopped truck
DevssrT 03-01-2009, 11:30 AM Nice times!!...and thast without a full CMR tune..thats just crazy!!...Nice!
Leegoober 03-01-2009, 12:06 PM Wow Very nice Patrick! Im following in your foot steps as we speak. Im going to have to stick with CMR email tune though, b/c there is no real shop to tune here in the Carolina's.
? for you though, In your last thread I've read through, When you actually redid your magnaflow exhuast to make it into 3" piping. Is there really that much power gain from switching from 2.75" exhaust to a 3" exhaust with your mods? Im actually thinking of buying a Stainless works 3" exhaust and get rid of my Corsa's which are 2.75" if there is that much of a gain in them.
Thanks again bro! And great times! Love to read your threads!:D

Patrick G 03-01-2009, 01:02 PM Wow Patrick, those are some great times. Your launches must be insane. I take it that the track was preped nice. Did you have any traction issues?Track prep was good at the beginning of the night, but got worse as time went by. In fact, I was dead hooking at 7:30pm, but by 8:30pm, the tires were spinning off the line. So as the weather improved, the track conditions got worse. My best ET had some wheel spin off the line. Too bad because the DA got even better at the end of the night, but the 60' times went back into the 1.7s. Sucks because there was probably a 12.0 or maybe even an 11.99 with better track prep. Still, it was a great night to be racing with AWD because everybody else were spinning their asses off.
YogiSRT8 03-01-2009, 09:28 PM Hows the driveability of that cam? Do you daily drive the jeep? How has it infected your gas milage? Thanks.
98aggie 03-01-2009, 09:44 PM To bad the track didn't hold up towards the end of the night. The Vette blowing his tranny didn't help either
Should have brought the jocky mod along to cut off another tenth.
BOYCHIKS 03-01-2009, 09:55 PM Great runs!
Nvr4get 03-01-2009, 10:09 PM Put some nasty heads on that thing and a under drive pulley and see if she will trap 115!

-LeeI'm not sure how free flowing the Corsas are in 2.75". All I can tell you is that the front muffler of the stock SRT8 exhaust is the choke in the system. If you replace that with a free flowing unit, you'll get most of the gains. Dual 3" pipes may be overkill for a 500 hp motor, but opening up the rear Magnaflow mufflers from 2.25" to 3.0" was worth an additional 8rwhp (for a total gain of 13rwhp over stock).
Hows the driveability of that cam? Do you daily drive the jeep? How has it infected your gas milage? Thanks.Driveability is like stock. I drive it every day around 1500 miles per month. With all my mods, my fuel economy has improved from 15-16mpg on the highway to 17-18mpg. I have even gotten 19mpg on some highway stretches with a tailwind, but that doesn't really count. Mileage is definitely better though. The tune had a lot to do with that. With my own copy of CMR, I'm confident that I could improve the mileage even more.
Chris@MWP 03-02-2009, 08:03 AM Man those are great number Patrick! I think Alex over at FRI had told me about you and your Jeep a few weeks ago when I picked up my Predator.
Blown-WK 03-02-2009, 08:52 AM Damn thats sick? Definitely the fastest cam only jeep in the country. What kind of power are you making on the dyno with that setup?
Patrick G 03-02-2009, 09:06 AM Damn thats sick? Definitely the fastest cam only jeep in the country. What kind of power are you making on the dyno with that setup? The Jeep made 416/409 on the last dyno pull. We made best power running 22 degrees of timing and the A/F ratio was as good as we could get it within the limitations of the Predator handheld unit.

YogiSRT8 03-02-2009, 12:47 PM You mind getting an in-car video of the speedo sometime. Im especially curious about the 40-120 acceleration since this is where the jeep is somewhat limited but with a trap that high it must be better.
CentralTexHemi 03-02-2009, 01:01 PM Congrats Patrick
BTLFED 03-02-2009, 06:37 PM Congrats Patrick its my bet you will be in the 11s soon
Newfiebullet 03-02-2009, 07:24 PM Great times patrick!!!! Im getting ready to do a cam install myself, all im waiting on is my underdrive pully to show up.I got 2 questions though,1st did you do valve springs with the cam?if so what valve spring compressor did you use?2nd do you have the torque specs for everything dealing with the cam install.
Thanks
Newfie.
Harrison@Stage6 03-02-2009, 07:28 PM We are doing mine the magnet method. I don't wanna crack the heads off quite yet.
Newfiebullet 03-02-2009, 08:28 PM Whats the megnet method?Im not taking the heads off to do the spring, they are staying on,that why im wondering what he sed.
Newfie.
kokanee13 03-02-2009, 08:34 PM Mike lets race!!!

Harrison@Stage6 03-02-2009, 09:13 PM You can actually thank Blown-WJ. He found it for me since we'r both doing cams. FRI actually told me about it today as well.

Newfie. My Little Boy cam was perfectly happy with the factory SRT8 springs. The 6.1 exhaust springs are especially stout. Steve Frank did the cam swap. He used all the factory recommended torque specs for the install. FRI would be a good source for the additional info you need. My expertise is more with GM's LS1 motors.
Dr.Steve 03-03-2009, 06:28 AM great times and excellent write-up (as always) Patrick, congrats!

Yeah after talking to a few more engine builders I would definitely recommend using magnets or something similar to hold the lifters up if you are not going to remove the heads. If a lifter falls before you get the new cam in you are screwed:eek:
Patrick G 03-04-2009, 10:08 AM Someone needs to update the 1/4 mile list, LOL. Lots of people faster than me.
divette 03-04-2009, 04:51 PM The great result, what fuel octane
98aggie 03-05-2009, 07:38 AM The great result, what fuel octane
Pump gas - 93 octane
