: Front license plate holes..
BOYCHIKS 02-16-2009, 01:23 PM Can't stand having a front tag, even if it is against the law here in Va. Well the holes are bothering me, and i'm about to get a clear bra put on the front and hood.
Is the only way to get rid of them is to get a new front bumper, or would it be worth getting them filled, sanded, and having it re-painted?

Looks pretty cool, but as of now they don't have a matching color for me :(
Ill have to keep my eye on there. Thanks!
780XO 02-16-2009, 01:45 PM I am in the same boat. I was thinking of getting a couple of plugs from Mopar just light the ones that hold the rear tail lights in and painting them to match the body. Front plates are stupid, why waste the aluminum?
a990dna 02-16-2009, 01:50 PM This was the primary reason I bought my SRT out of state... most California dealers drill the holes.
BOYCHIKS 02-16-2009, 01:55 PM Not to bad of an idea.. Yea, my dad and I can't stand them. They drill them on practically every car here in Va.
veyronSRT8@TTCreations 02-16-2009, 01:58 PM believe it or not i was told that the bumpers are coming pre drilled now...can someone verify this?? i am on my second bumper/facia now and had asked for the "new" one to not be drilled when i was told this. so the solution....since the new bumper needed to be painted anywho, just had them paint over the holes...
BOYCHIKS 02-16-2009, 02:05 PM I did hear that somewhere too. Most bumpers are being factory drilled, but smaller holes, then once the dealers receive them, they get finished all with the license plate frames... :-\
JJJ93z 02-16-2009, 02:18 PM mine, like everyone elses, are pre drilled, but not all the way through the bumper.
Why would they drill all the way through at the factory? Especially when there are a lot of states out there that don't require the front? Sounds silly to me.
BOYCHIKS 02-16-2009, 02:23 PM I think they should be optional and shouldn't be required anywhere..
If you see in the pictures on the website below, they are pre-drilled from factory..

That is exactly what I was talking about. They are pre-drilled, but not all the way through.

BOYCHIKS 02-16-2009, 02:29 PM WHY CAN'T THEY JUST COME LOOKING CLEAN WITH NO HOLES OR ANYTHING?!?!
haha makes me so aggravated.
a990dna 02-16-2009, 02:37 PM Those are dimples (not holes) so the dealer prep guys can drill the holes to mount the front plate bracket...
All SRTs have front dimples..

mines got the dimples too, could have sworn it was just the holes painted over...
Blown-WK 02-16-2009, 02:59 PM I couldn't even stand having the dimples in there so I had them filled and the bumper repainted when my grills were being painted.

just order white and get some touch up paint from the dealer
a990dna 02-16-2009, 04:01 PM WHY CAN'T THEY JUST COME LOOKING CLEAN WITH NO HOLES OR ANYTHING?!?!
haha makes me so aggravated.
Those dimples are molded in... not pre-drilled. If you want it smooth with no dimples you may as well save your money on a new bumper and have the holes filled on your existing bumper and then have it repainted... or buy the plugs and paint those..
The very reason I bought mine out of state..
BOYCHIKS 02-16-2009, 04:32 PM Well thanks for everyone opinions. I'll need to decide what I want to do soon.. I really would just like it like Blown-WJ, I can't stand holes, dimples, or anything!!

Yea that site was mentioned on post 2. I think its the way i'll go. I'd rather spend the 1k on my exhaust and plug the holes.
aplatero1984 02-16-2009, 05:39 PM Im glad that we don't have to have front plates here in NC! that chit would piss me off!
Texas_Venom 02-20-2009, 10:46 AM I got some SRT-8 caps to go over the screws while they are in the holes. It isnt a clean look but looks much better than the holes being open. Plus WHEN I get pulled over again I will be able to slide the plate back on and get the ticket removed.
sidehatch 02-20-2009, 01:48 PM I thought the dimples were ugly, so I put the front plate on. CT requires it anyway.
I actually don't think it ruins the look of the front of our vehicles too much...

Just installed my bumperplugs yesterday - they match my paint perfectly.. I had to enlarge the holes with a 1/4 drill bit. When i took the front holder off some of the plastic pulled out. The drill cleaned it up nicely and the bumper plugs look great. I am in PA we don't have front plates - my truck was "imported" from a dealer in NH
I am happy with this quick solution.
One piece of advice use your palm and not your thumb to push them in - they note this in the instructions as well.
My plugs are Basalt black metallic - and match the pearl black perfectly
Too bad you have to buy them in sets of 2 - i have an extra as our trucks have 3 holes
BOYCHIKS 02-20-2009, 08:31 PM Mike, they look really good.. I may just get some. Which color red would you think would look the closest to mine?
Or better off getting white and painting them.? (what somebody else recommended)

They have a color chart on their web store. I matched the Chrysler code to the bumperplugs chart in my case Basalt Black Porsche - I see some reds listed for Chrysler and Dodge - try and march your three digit Chrysler paint code to the bumperplugs chart
a990dna 02-21-2009, 12:57 AM Those bumper plugs are a great solution... they look similar to and could actually pass as front parking sensors.
I would use bumper plugs before having the bumper repainted.
Texas_Venom 02-21-2009, 07:16 AM http://www.carbeyondstore.com/auto-parts/HEMI-Chrome-License-Plate-Screw-Covers/
I got these. Just another option. I would prefer to have no holes at all but in California I have been pulled over twice already. Its an easy fix but a pain in the azz.
FDNY-L107 02-21-2009, 07:24 AM Here's another option that I just went with. Folks seem to really like this solution. I just got it and it looks good - although the backing plate is ABS plastic and not metal. Nice product though....

Yea thats a great idea.
Hey can you post a picture of it installed or is it in the same place as stock? Would also be cool if you could pop the plate out from the cab..
BOYCHIKS 02-27-2009, 08:00 AM Just got off the phone with BumperPlugs. They told me the best color match for the Red Rock SRT would be Indy Red.. Which is a bmw color. I was curious to see what yall think about that and if the colors will blend in pretty well. As I looked at pics, the indy red looks a bit darker, but could possibly work.
JYSRT8 02-28-2009, 10:58 PM Go to Home Depot and get some screw plugs, about $1 and paint them with the factory touch up paint, looks just as good as the bumper plugs, but at a fraction of the cost.
ProAukland 03-01-2009, 03:04 AM Funny, (NOT)- I just got a $60 ticket yesterday for no front tag in Maryland (required here). Officer asked me if I knew I had no front tag (duh!)- I said YEP!
I-95 tunnel cops have nothing better to do than look for people with no tags! I got the same ticket for no tag on my Vette- same area on I-95 around the tunnel in Baltimore. You'd think I would know better!
I HATE the idea of putting the tag on!
BOYCHIKS 03-01-2009, 07:46 AM ^^ I'm right with you !!
May go visit HomeDepot today and see what they got.. Those holes are bothering me.
I HATE the idea of putting the tag on!
You could try mounting your front plate to the front bracket and keeping it in your car, then next time you get pulled over tell the cop its in the back and some jerk backed into you knocking it off? I dunno about the plugs though  maybe the cop wont notice them.
I used the Home depot plugs and painted to match. I did have to trim the hole with a razor blade but the plugs are very small and cheap. especial when you need 3 instead of 2..

You know, if I were you and I had to travel through a trap every day, before I drilled holes, I would re-create your front plate using a graphics software program and print it out on static-cling or magnetic type material... slap that baby on the front bumper each day until the coast is clear...
until then, attached your real front plate using Velcro strips, get the ticket signed-off and then remove it. I haven't read anywhere the "law" requires to attach it with screws... and that being said, screw our state government and corrupt politicians.
This is the dumbest law... actually discriminatory in my eyes since motorcycles aren't required to have front license plates...
and yes, I've always been a rebel without a cause... ;)
ProAukland 03-01-2009, 09:03 PM and yes, I've always been a rebel without a cause... ;)
ME TOO! I decided I'm going to just put the tag on my dash like it fell off. NOT drilling holes! I don't have to have the ticket signed off- I just have to send in the fine $$.
780XO 03-02-2009, 09:12 AM Here is what I did. I posted on another thread but here it is again. I used the same plugs that hold the rear tail lights in. I got them from Jeep for 5 dollars a piece and painted them to match. Here are the results.
This is the home depot plugs. They are much smaller.

BOYCHIKS 03-05-2009, 02:40 PM Those look good. Did you use your own paint?
If your asking me, I used my own paint (rattle can). Gloss black
