if you don't have much experience buffing a vehicle, you could easily swirl the paint esp on a black vehicle.

I agree with squig. The PC makes polishing your car worry free.

Get a Flex.... they're made in Germany I believe so it shouldn't be a problem. If you guys used the right type of electricity over there you wouldn't be having a problem with the CYCLO!!!!:D The Flex wasa toss up for me to get. IT was between the Cyclo and the Flex and I just chose the Cyclo. As far as messing up the paint..... no. A DA(Dual Action) Polisher was designed so you can't cause damamge. They don't create enough heat to cause damamge. I worked a scratch on my wife's door for about 1-2 minutes in this little area. The paint heated up SOME, but not bad at all. There's a YouTube video of a guy holding a DA polisher on one spot for like 3 minutes, no damage. Now a High Speed buffer on the other hand will go right down to bare metal. Find you a 220v. Cyclo or get a Flex and you should be set. Good luck bro....

If you don't know how to buff a car, don't attempt to learn on a black Jeep.

My brother has been detailing cars all his life and I've seen some really ***d up cars that were at his shop due to someone going to the autozone buying a buffer and going to town

Depends - with an orbital, it's next to impossible unless you drop your pad on the ground then polish. Since it doesn't create much heat, it's a great low-risk tool with the only drawback being the amount of time it will take. With a rotary, it's possible to burn through your base and clear coats, just by leaving it in one spot for a couple seconds. You can also skip it across the paint and do some serious damage.

Get a Porter Cable 7424 dual action, and use another car as a test mule. You'll find that with just a little practice, you can get real good at working the polish in, breaking it down, and removing swirls. You'll then learn to adjust your techniques, and figure out which polish and pad combo is right for the job - I can look at a car's defects and within a few seconds figure out which combination I am going to use. I've been using it for about 6 years and would never EVER polish by hand again. I still need to learn the rotary though. That said, I've not had a car yet where I couldn't take out 95% of the defects with a PC. That's my last point - don't strive for perfection you'll drive yourself up a fu*king wall.

I agree with Harrison, go with a Flex, I think that will be my next machine purchase. I hear nothing but great things about them. I would stay away from the AutoZone $30 dollar circular buffers. Those will induce swirls faster than the do it yourself carwash. The PC 7424 is also a great machine, I use that 98% of the time and is totally safe for your paint. Here are a few pics of what a PC 7424 can do with the correct pads and polish.

Hey Brian, how about something like this? Comes dual action polisher, pads and Menzerna Polish. I have had great success with Menzerna products.
