: Torque steer
Has any one noticed when driving the GC SRT8 anywhere between 40-60 mph, and stepping on the gas hard, there is a noticeable amount of torque steer. In my case, always to the left. Scary when in traffic and cars to your left and right. Knowing the vehicle will pull to the left and trying to judge how much correction you will need to make to the right without side swiping someone. This ia a new vehicle with less than 2K miles. Thought I would start by checking the alighnment, then calling Hennessey that performs SRT8 modifications. If this is a problem with all SRT8 models, it would be greatly enhanced if modifications were performed.

You're not going to find true torque steer in anything except a FWD vehicle. The torque split just isn't enough to the front to create the problem in our vehicle.
I'm betting your alignment is wonked. Do you notice any pulling when not under acceleration?
My jeep doesn't pull anywhere except straight ahead under full throttle stomp.

The right rear is pushing and the left front is pulling, hence under hard acceleration it's walks to the left,at times. I would consider this normal for the jeep. As far as calling it torque steer, what else would you call it.

Huh. Well, mine pulls straight ahead. Didn't mean to dismiss it as an issue, just thought it had to be alignment.

Experiencing the same issue in the 2007. A few weeks ago, it pulled very hard to the left as I was making a lane change from the left lane to the center lane in Chicago. Scared the hell out the Mercedes that I was passing and came within 6 inches from his right side.

I believe on high power AWD vehicles, it's called drift. I have some during WOT but it's not hard to get used to, to compensate.
timster 01-28-2007, 08:39 PM I noticed some drift too, but have gotten used to it - Just hold on tight :)
Black_SRT8 01-28-2007, 08:42 PM AWD wanders - Mine actually wanders right. My first WOT, I almost swiped the car in the other lane
ronald mcglothlin 01-28-2007, 10:47 PM I gess I really have not felt what you all are talking about. Mine does not do anything but go strait. I also have a PT cruiser at about 270 HP and with the front wheel drive I do understand torque steer and my Jeep simply does not have any. With the PT I better have a good grip on the steering wheel or I can change lanes with a hard down shift or just when the turbo spools up. I drive both, some times in the same day.
HoustonSRT-8 01-29-2007, 08:54 AM I'd get you alignment checked just to be safe and while we're talking about being safe, don't call Hennessey for anything.
Shooter_t1 01-29-2007, 09:50 AM I agree, maybe you should have the alignment looked at. I've nailed the throttle at alot of different rpm's and speeds and have never had a problem with staying in my lane.

+1
gculver 01-29-2007, 10:54 AM If the alignment was off it would be pulling, drifting ,walking or whatever you want to call it under normal driving conditions, not just under hard acceleration.

Maybe, but it doesn't hurt to have the dealer check it.
omegaman 01-29-2007, 12:00 PM Mine does it under hard acceleration as well. I just hang on and grin.
OurZoo 01-29-2007, 01:17 PM You definitely get rocked a little when you nail the throttle. Not the same as in my Charger.
Thanks everybody for the feedback. Off to the shop for an alignment and wheel balance.
