: SRT Ride Too Rough for Kids???
JEEPHEMI 01-28-2007, 10:21 AM I'm looking for a SRT-8 Jeep, and I currently have an 05 WK Limited Hemi. I have two young kids, and the SRT-8 would be my daily driver/family vehicle. I understand that its sporty suspension isnt going to be like riding on air, but without testing driving one yet, I'm just afraid it might be too rough for kids.
I sold a lift F-250 a few years back because the ride was just too rough for my one year old son. Anyone driving kids around in their SRT-8 see any problems???
dbrisson 01-28-2007, 10:26 AM I drive my 2 year around all of the time to daycare and back. She just likes the movies. I have also had her in my older 911 and while the ride is rough the engine puts her right to sleep. I have no problems with the little one not sleeping or being jarred awake.
FastJeepSRT8 01-28-2007, 10:33 AM I have a 4 yr old daughter and she loves the SRT. She's never complained once about the ride just that I don't go fast often enough for her. I hear "Daddy go faster" a lot from the back seat lol. If you have kids the DVD option is a must. That is definitely her favorite part about ridding in the SRT.
asphaltcowboy 01-28-2007, 10:36 AM I have a 2&4 year olds no problem but a little small and real bad on gas maybe 8or9MPG if that other than that the only think going for it is the power I mean i am realy regreting buy one mine is a 07 with 1400miles on it Wish i would have thought about it before i bought got hot nutted
FastJeepSRT8 01-28-2007, 10:46 AM Asphaltcowboy raises a valid point. The backseat is small and the SRT seats don't help. So if your pimp'n a car seat you may get some complaints from other passengers who ride in the back. My mother complains everytime she rides in the back of mine that there's not enough room with the car seat. I wouldn't let that effect your decission though. Once you stomp on the gas you won't care how small the back seat is, I promise. ;)
930chas 01-28-2007, 10:49 AM My 4 year old loves the Jeep. He is also a bad influenece, everytime I run it hard, he screams out "do it again daddy!!"
JEEPHEMI 01-28-2007, 10:58 AM I know the back seat is small. With two kids in my Limited, its tight especially when driving around with two other adults. We have survived with it for 2 years, but Im hungry for the SRT.
My 4year old son loves my Limited Hemi, and I know he will love the SRT even better. I'm just a little afraid of the ride after my F-250, but Im sure the SRT is not that bad. I'll have to find a dealer that will let me take a quick test drive.
limeylee 01-28-2007, 11:35 AM My 2 1/2 year old girl loves it!
She LOVES the DVD player, it is sometimes hard for me to get her out when we get home.
It is small though and kiddie car seats take up a lot of room.

Asphalt -you must drive extremely hard to get 8-9mpg. Wow. I average 13.5 in city driving with daily WOT.
JeepHemi - I have 2 kids (girls 2 & 4). They love Daddy's car. My 4 year old says "daddy's car sounds mad." No complaints from me. I do agree with the comment above that if you put 2 car seats in, there is not much room in the middle.
limeylee 01-28-2007, 11:51 AM I am averaging 10 mpg :(
5 mile commute each way, no freeway all side streets
gculver 01-28-2007, 11:53 AM If DCX would have given us a spare(collapsable) and non run-flats. Yes, I feel this could have beed accomplished even with the exhaust exits, IMO, it would be the perfect performance package in its class for an suv. Maybe, someone at DC will read this. Now back on topic. The ride, although not horrible is bone jarring at times, partly b/c of the run flats.
The only time I notice a rough ride is on "uncommonly" rough roads, such as the washerboard effect of several bump/dips in a row. The occassional pothole/bump doesn't seem to bad. The SRT8 shines almost everywhere else though.
kramsay1234 01-28-2007, 12:02 PM I take my niece and nephew out in my boat all the time and they are always telling me "more bumps!" I believe childrens heads have an extra insulation layer that only deteriorates after age 25, so you should have nothing to worry about.

Sheri'SRT8 01-28-2007, 02:06 PM Ride is not an issue. They love the speed. Especially when mom gets on it.
FastJeepSRT8 01-28-2007, 06:25 PM My 2 1/2 year old girl loves it!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with that problem. lol It's next to impossible sometimes to get her out without major drama over the DVD player. I think she'd watch it all night in the garage if we let her.
My 3 & 5 year olds love it.

heh, my commute is 35 miles each way with 99% being highway and i still get 10-11mpg
MARK16 01-29-2007, 05:03 AM 5,7 and 10 year old - No problem at all. Great on the motorway, smooth V8 ! Bit rough on some of the back roads - but I just slow down. Had a ML before and that rolled around like any thing. Air suspension option for future models ?!

My 7 year old did complain to me once that he was sick of his neck snapping back and forth whenever he rode in it. :)
Texas_A_M_Fan 01-29-2007, 07:36 AM I have both the 05 WK with the Hemi (mom's car) and the 06 SRT (Dad's Car). The ride the WK is MUCH smoother, but our 2 year old loves both cars. Kids will complain about anything, if you give them the chance. It is up to you to decided which complaints are legit!
shodanusmc 01-29-2007, 08:56 AM I usually pick my In-Laws up in the E55 since it is easy for them to get in it. (they are early 80's) Yesterday for some reason I the Jeep. My mother in law was like a little ape as she grabbed the grab handle and swung in. There are many many pot holes in the Chicago area. They made no comment on the ride quality, but my father in law was smiling as I showed him the power of the Jeep, while my Mother in Law was mumbling something in Italian, and swinging her little arms like a mad man. I still think she enjoyed the ride regardless.
The Jeep does have a stiff ride and it is not for everyone. I find it to ride best when the tires are at 33-34 PSI
HoustonSRT-8 01-29-2007, 08:57 AM My 5yr old and 2yr old love the SRT. Never any complaints about it being to bouncy or waking them up.
MegaSRT-8 01-29-2007, 12:16 PM Don't be fooled. The ride can be a iittle harsh over bumps, but real rough on bad roads. And of course kids will say they love it - it can be like a wooden rollercoaster!
Also, the seats in the front are real comfortable, but the back-seat cushions suck.
I have a newborn, and the first few times I took her around, I was affraid she was getting "shaking baby" sindrome. It DOES put her to sleep when she's crying, but at what expence? We take the Volvo now.
