So I went back to the dealer today to have the flash installed for the second time. This time it worked and I was happy. So since me and the service manager were getting along I dropped "Have you had any other problems with srt8s"

"Yeah, but they weren't due to car error."

He went on to tell me about some srt8 owner who "pulled a fuse" in his Jeep and was doing burnouts in 2wd and popped some pin in his rear diff which blew up the rear end. He came in and complained that the diff blew. They went back and looked at it and the computer had logged every time the fuse/switch was hit.

"If you put a CD in wrong, the computer logs it" he went on to say

Then I straight up asked up him "what wont void the warranty"

"you can do anything that wont alter the mechanical function of the car or cause computer codes to be stored."

that being said, be careful everyone.

I dont think thats gonna happen after 10 minutes f ' in around. Maybe after continuously beatin on the thing with the fuse out.

I am very skeptical about how/when it "logs" events. I have a very good relationship with my service manager and the technicians at my dealership, and I've taken my black SRT-8 in twice due to a fault message.

"Service 4WD System" has been displayed many times on my vehicle, and it did not store a single event log.

To me, thats pretty vital. If it did not store a code or event log for THAT, why would it store a code if a CD has been inserted wrong? To top it off, that would mean the CD Player has to have some sort of inherent error reporting coded in, which I highly doubt. Also, I'd be interested to know how the CANBUS can tell when a fuse is pulled. I suppose it will log when current flow is present/not present or the gate is open/closed.

Then again, I could be totally off base since I am not a technician nor do I have any expertise in this area. *shrugs*

i just know what I was told. And the story of the guy blowing his rear end in 2wd sucks since that will be an out of pocket expense. Man, it would break my heart to hear that from the dealer.

A friend of mine is the only one that works on my Jeep at the dealership. I tell him wat I need and he does it. No one else says a thing. Last time I brought it in for service, he called me, told me the Jeep was leaking tranny fluid. He said he couldnt fix it though. He said for me to call the service dept. on the phone, and let them know I might have a tranny leak also. That way they can ok the fix. He was also gonna help me fab up a fan switch, and a switch to shut the front diff off, but I told him I might do it later on in the summer. I called him on his cell at work the day the flash for the tcm came out, I brought it out back, pulled it into his bay, and he did it right there with me in the bay. Took less than 20 min. No having to deal with the service dept. I'm the only SRT 8 that goes to this dealership for service, so they are pretty cool.
