Is the popping sound from the engine or from the exhaust as it cools down? My exhaust makes a loud ticking noise as it cools down after I drive it for a while.

the noise i'm referring to is just a sort of intermittent pop from the engine as the car cools down. ive had vehicles in the past that have done this, i believe its just the engine burning off the fuel that's in the engine when it shuts off, but while its new i figure i might as well ask the questions i have about it

Mine also pops like rice crispies. Especially if is cold outside and exhaust is hot.

yeah its been quite chilly lately (for south texas at least) and ive been driving it quite a bit because i cant get enough of the srt8, so thats probably what causes it. happened all the time on my old f150

Read this thread. http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233&highlight=noise+power There is even a youtube video link with the sound. If this is the one you have. It's normal. My dealer checked it a while back for me. It only happens if you start the car, don't drive it, and shut if off. It related to the transfer case if I remember correctly.

The other noise some mention, which is also normal, is a dinging, hissing, etc. sound coming from fully heated exhaust after shut down. This noise is louder during hot weather and less noticable when cold. Here is are 2 threads for this noise:

Very much thank you jlandbl. That is one thread I hadn't seen, but I have started my truck up for people and turned it off only to hear this small electric motor moving something back to another position for about a 2 second count. People have asked what it is and I have always said it is nothing, but wondered if there was a problem. Also could be mistaken for a power seat moving itself around if the bearings were shot.

Now I can tell people "its the transfer case actuator returning to the start position" and sound like I know what I am talking about.
