i have an 07 (build date 12/06) and yesterday i decided to check out if my transmission shifted itself in the auto-stick (manual) mode like people say it does. i romped on it from a 10 mph roll in first gear, reached the redline, & was thrown forward in my seat for a second (like i hit a wall) at the same time there was no engine or exhaust noise. then my instincts took over & i shifted it into 2nd myself and continued on. tomorrow i'm going out to try it again and see what happens in both the full auto mode & the manual mode. i am a little nervous to see what happens in the manual mode again as i dont want to hurt anything. if i'm experienceing the same problem as the 06's, i'm hoping the flash can be done to my 07.

I have a Nov. 06 build and haven't tried the manual mode yet believe it or not, haven't even driven the truck that much to date.

That aside, in full auto my redline hits at 6,100rpms. The redline that the TSB shift update gives you.

So I don't see why in manual mode it won't shift itself. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Whew...maybe we will get somewhere with this!!!
Yes, it is a little troubling letting it do its own thing while in auto stick and just hold on and trust it to shift. Mine shifts between 6100 and 6200 (hard to see exactly) weather in autostick or drive. I have software in my laptop to pin the shift point exactly and will try tomorrow and document this. It does hit the rev limiter on the shift and gives a hesitation and noise through the exhaust. The noise was actually heard in the stands at Rockingham drag way and the spectators thought I MISSED the 1-2 shift! The other shifts were less noticeable. My local dealers service mgr., who is great and has a great viper mechanic on staff, took mine for a test drive with me and felt the shift problem, even though they checked for the latest flash on the '07's.
Note that our electronics (TCM & PCM) are completely different than the '06's.

This damn TCM issue on my '07 will get resolved!! I did email (probably went in their junk folder) the engineers on this to begin documentation.

kramsay1234: I just saw your post & maybe I need to purchase a fresh TCM even though the factory says I have the latest AE revision. Hmmm.

Bill - I will check my door again for exact build date and if I can find some clear road, will try again and check the 1-2 shift rpm. I tried it a couple of weeks ago from a red with no traffic around as my "first true launch". I was grinning for hours. The cars behind me a the light were a block away by the time I was through 2nd gear.

Clear road....hell watch out for the ice!
On the test ride with the service mgr. he said, "damn this thing is fast from the factory". Yeah it really is. Mine did 13.1 in the 1/4 mile with the Mopar exhaust he installed.

BTW. We vacationed last summer in your town and had a great time.Good people.

ok, i'll just let it do its thing in manual mode and post the results. where is this TCM & how much does a new one cost?

edit: what does TCM stand for? and wouldnt it be nice if the dealer would replce it under warrenty to see if it fixes the shift problem?

Bill - Roads was clear (no ice) and it is damn cold this morning so my beast was working great. 1-2 shift at somewhere between 6,000 and 6,100 and no delay or hesitation. Didn't have time to do the 2-3 shift due to traffic ahead (that was coming up much faster than normal)

Only disappointment is I cannot find a build sticker on my truck - inside any of the doors, or under the hood. All I have inside the driver door is an ugly looking Goodyear sticker and a sticker down closer to the rocker that says my truck is full of mercury.

However, my VIN # ends in 559224, so if yours is before this number there is a chance I have a newer software version.

Man I wish there was no traffic in Toronto.

Attached is a photo of a TCM (transmission Control Module). I believe it is located under the dash and must be programmed by the dealer. It is in the $ 200 range.

Yes, of course it should be handled by the dealer as a re-flash, similiar to the '06's

Man I wish there was no traffic in Toronto.

It's just a matter of perspective. Drive around in India for a week. If you survive, come back and presto there is no traffic in Toronto or at least not the type that puts every second of your life in peril. I have been a mellow driver since returning to a place where traffic signs, signals, lines on the road and other indications of order actually mean something.
Another good driving colonic, if you can manage it, is to drive with a hearty German fellow in his new M5 on the autobahn doing close to 300km. He has one hand on the wheel and is carrying on an animated conversation as if you were doing 50km in Toronto. You do not mind as there are worse ways to go - under the wheels of a three wheel Indian conveyance for example.

My truck does the friggn same thing. Just like you stated. It actually feels like the truck shuts off between 1-2 then bam back into the seat you go...

I already spoke with the service advisor at Tysons Jeep and explained to them that I would like to get this repaired asap or I will be having them replace my tcm with another to see if it helps...

Keep me posted as I am still waiting to hear from the dealership myself.

My 07 shifts ate RED Line also - build date 10/06

Just a comment the roads in Toronto are excellent. I was there last week and the traffic seemed light once off the QEW. very wide streets with great WOT opportunities between lights. Surprised a few Lexus and Beemer drivers and left them well behind me!

Hey Kramsay - the nav system wanted to take me on the 407 Toll Road - what happens if I go on that with US plates

Hey Kramsay - the nav system wanted to take me on the 407 Toll Road - what happens if I go on that with US plates

The system will take a pic of your rear plate and they will send you a bill in the mail. At least that's the theory. It worth a jaunt on the 407. Watch for the cops but plenty of wide open road. Faq link below answers most of the questions people have about the toll road.
