: All wheel drive burn out, how the magazines do it.
K Hamlet 05-01-2006, 08:58 AM I just purchased the June 2006 Sport Truck Magazine because it shows a Silverado SS doing a burn out on the cover. I know about these trucks because I own one, drove it for about a year then my wife took it over. It's still around, only now my lead foreman drives it. Anyway they are all wheel drive and have the same characteristics as the GC SRT8 when it comes to traction control and burn outs.
Sport Truck had the same problem we do with our GC's. Even with the ESP bypassed, all wheel drives still hook up quick and you cannot power brake them.
Look at the attached pictures of the cover and Magazine Contents pages and you will see their fix. They use a tow strap to keep the SS in one place so the tires cans spin long enough to smoke. It also keeps the truck in one place so it can be photographed.
So here we go, the first one to duplicate this process with a GC SRT8 will be the Hero of the day and most likely become the hottest desktop background / Screen Saver for GC SRT8 owners.
We need a video and photographs.
I may try my own entry in this challange, keep an eye out.
.
Anxious to see how the pics turn out. I'd imagine that the moutning point for the strap will be a bit more challenging than on the pickup truck. And the other end of the strap will have to be on ground level, right? Take lots of pics!!!

You first...;) :)

Sounds like you are worried what a tow strap hook would do to the back of the drivers head should it let go. I must admit me too!!
Would be especially fun explaining to your Insurance Agent how a tow hook and strap ended up piercing the back hatch of your new GC.
It just seems to me that this is something so cool and stupid that it begs to be done.
I am just hoping that someone with more enthusiasm and less brains does it before I do so I won't have to.
I have some brains, but not enough to tell me that I do not need to see my GC SRT8 barely peeking out of a cloud of its own tire smoke.
Stay tuned.

robertk59 05-02-2006, 03:19 PM I used to have a video of a guy that did it with a 98 5.9 Liter grand cherokee, he did it inside a garage and at one point the cameraman walks and pauses in front of the Jeep... Idiot! I'll see if I can find it again.

I would like to see it.
I am still trying to figure out if this is an insanely cool idea or just an insane idea. Maybe if I see this Rocket Scientist in action it will convince me not to try it.
The other issue is that I can just picture one of my friends putting a DVD of my all wheel drive smoke show into the rear seat DVD player when I have one of them help me drop off my GC SRT8 at the dealer for service.
That would be fun, wouldn't it.

robertk59 05-05-2006, 03:14 PM To the original poster, I think that it would be smarter for you and I to swap vehicles. I have a 98 5.9 liter grand cherokee with heads, cam, and all the other bolt ons, it should give an SRT8 a close race the 1/4 mile. I say this because strapping a tow srap onto your SRT8 and doing this will probably damage you driveline in some way, why not do it to a 9 year old Jeep vs. a brand new vehicle. I will gladly drive down to cali and swap with you. This way I can get what I want and so can you. :)

It truly amazes me how much people on this forum will sacrifice to help others. I sometimes need people to make suggestions that will help me live smarter.
In gratitude for your sacrifice I have washed my GC SRT8, waxed it and filled up the gas tank.
I have made arrangements to help you find my house even though my CG SRT8 will be in the garage. All you have to do is drive to Bakersfield, California and look for the house with the porch light on, I left it on to help. Just come on in don't bother knocking and don't pay any attention to those rumors that us Bakersfield People like to shoot first and ask questions later.
Again thanks for helping me live smarter, I can't wait to trade!. :D :D

robertk59 05-09-2006, 12:18 AM Ha, it's all in good fun. I say don't do anything that could damage your SRT8, twin turbo it then maybe you can do 4 wheel smokies without the tow strap.

Yes, I want to make sure you know this thread is in good fun. I truly appreciate people with a sense of humor.
As for horsepower that GSM Blower kit looks pretty bad ass. I lean more in that direction even though I am sure that a twin turbo set up would provide more horsepower. Have you had any experience with an aftermarket turbo setup?
If so was it a good one?
Thanks again for the "helpful" response.
radduc 05-10-2006, 08:57 AM I got the ESP/fan mod from GS Motorsports and I can smoke all 4 wheels on my SRT 8 as well.

This vehicle is truely more fun than anything I have ever owned. And people keep coming out with stuff to make even more fun.
Spinning all four wheels is just one such addition.
Keep on enjoying.
