Yeah i know everyone has gone with the powder coating the wheels but really too expensive... 500-800... Seen a lot of guys just spraying it online and doesnt look too bad.. Maybe i can give it a shot....

P.s i know i can fawk up and will be more expensive later but dont hate just trying something new with a budget...

Don't spray paint your wheels. Wait until you can afford to have them powder coated. I can gurantee you will not have good results from spray painting them.

Please, please I can't stress enough how you shouldn't spray them.

That being said it is your ride and do as you please. When you are done post up pics so others will not think about doing it. :-)

You're going to rattle can $4k forged wheels?

I know times are rough right now, and many of us are pinching pennies, but please do yourself a favor and have them professionally sprayed or coated when you have the money.

EDIT:

Pros: Low cost

Cons: Crappy looking finish, flaking paint, embarrassment, loss of time

Theres a guy on here thats used vinal , I forget his name but a search should find it. I believe he did the bull run. And the vinal holds up well from what he says.

You do not necessarily have to powdercoat them but finding a shop that truly understands the prep process is important. These were painted and cleared with 2 coats of urethane clear after they were completely sanded and epoxy primed.

I painted mine a while back. Check out my old thread with pics. Having them turn out good is all in the prep work. The prep takes 90% of the time. You also need to use good products from a trusted paint supplier....no spray cans:rolleyes: http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11593&highlight=painted+wheels

just a quick q, for those who had them chromed...will this cover up curb rash that was on mine when i bought it?

I painted my wheels on my cobalt a gloss black. And I agree with 402 motoring. Prepping is the most important step. It took a friend and I 3 days to finish 4 wheels. We sanded the wheels down, cleaned them really good, made the surface of the wheel rough (but not too rough) for the paint to stick. I used 3 coats of paint and 3 of clearcoat on each wheel and they held up fine. Only time they peeled/chipped was when I had to change my tires (my wheels don't have a lip on the edge and I wasn't being careful). Had them for two years already...through snow, rain....holding up fine

Total cost was around $60-70

But I would suggest getting them powdercoated if you want them to last for a long time. I personally don't mind painting them every 3 years...it gives me something to do on the weekends haha

The chroming process will cover curb rash as long as its not a deep chip or gouged. Check out calchrome.com they can answer any of your questions professionally.

Blown-WJ is 100% correct!!!

Here's the deal! It is totally in the prep work. It's going to require a proper CLEAN room and some nice sanding/cleaning/clearing etc. There are many types of paint but paint is really paint. Just make sure it is hot and you do many coats and you clear it properly! I would do your research but I have many friends with nice cars and spray painted parts and you would never now because it was done properly... I spray painted my SRT logos on my wheels and look flawless...

Go ahead and rattle can them, you want them colored, just do it. Honestly what is the worse that could happen? It peels after a few months, then you can have them powder coated. Think of it as a trial run. I painted many wheels before, with spray can paints, as long as the prep work is good, it will look good, and hold up well.

Use a self etching primer and it will not come off...I had a chrome grill painted and the painter used a self etching primer and it never came off..

I know a bunch of SRT4 people that have spray painted their wheels......they look good from afar. But up close...ehhhh and our rims are too expensive. I wouldn't do it.
