: Knocking?

As I said in another thread, the dealership I got my SRT8 from filled the tank up with 87 octane  , and once I figured this out i had them put some octane booster in. Well, I was looking under the hood at the badass engine and because of the octane issue I'm paranoid I'm hearing knocking. How audible would this be if this were the case? Would there be any mistaking it? I only drove about 20 miles without the octane booster, 45 since then. Any insight is appreciated, thanks

I've run 87 octane in my g.c srt8 for 3000 miles and not a knock or ping to be heard. Modern computers are good at making the proper adjustments for lower octane gas. Some would argue that you must use premium, so all I can offer you is what has worked for me.

I understand your concern, but you would recognize it if you heard it.

In the other thread, ResumeSpeed was 100% correct, the computer will recognize the low octane levels and retard timing. This programming was implemented because people have difficulties finding gas over 89 or 91 (sounds weird, but true).

As ResumeSpeed also said, DO NOT HAMMER THE THROTTLE - this can cause detonation. The best thing you can do is to docilely drive the vehicle until 1/4 or 1/8 of the 87 gas remains.

Do not get bent out of shape - as long as you are not WOT, you will be A-OK.

Lol i have a tendency to get a little wound up about stuff like this. in the other thread I was told the octane booster was a bad idea. i dont know exactly what kind or how much the dealership used, but generally is that something to stay away from? ive never heard anything particularly negative about boosters so this is new to me
