: Warranty and maintenance
evo45 01-20-2009, 06:14 PM Has anyone had any bad maintenance issues with their Jeep SRT8? I am looking into buying an 07 with 38k miles on it with no warranty left and dont want to buy a headache.
It is a toss-up right now between one that is in my area with the 38k miles for $24,900 or drive 150 miles and get one with 23k miles with navigation that is $27,500. I am sure they can work on both prices but I think I could get the closer one alot easier and cheaper. The no warranty thing scares me though. What do you guys think?
Thanks
Vic
Vinnysrt8 01-20-2009, 06:18 PM There is really no maintenance issue the most of the problems r fixed with that many problems.
evo45 01-20-2009, 06:37 PM So these trucks are reliable. What problems would have been worked out with that many miles? The trany leak and other bs maintenance issues. With the miles I said if the original owner had been ripping on the truck and the transfer was hurt would you be able to hear the transfer whine or clunk if it was bad? I read some other people are having problems with their transfer case whineing. Are there many people with this problem and is it from drag racing or just driving it hard on the street. Sorry to ask all these questions but I would like to know what I am getting into if I pick this thing up.
Thanks
Vic
Vinnysrt8 01-20-2009, 06:42 PM The tranny o ring transfer cases Yes u would def hear the transefer case if it was bad Most people have the whineing from transfer case because its something with the clutches in it but that is how it is from the dealer ships and they say it is normal.
evo45 01-20-2009, 06:55 PM Is it true that these trucks come with an adaptive transmission? The salesman that went on a test drive with me said that is what they came with. He said that after the first time I took off hard from a light and the trany felt like it missed 2nd. It paused really bad before shifting. I only had enough road for it to hit second hard and not third on my test drive. After it studdered I tried it a few more times and it started to shift correctly after the 3rd or 4th try. Has this ever happend to you Vinny. Thanks Vic

It is a mercedes transmission and yes it is a little sluggest that why most people buy the predator and they also put a tune on it for extra power.
evo45 01-20-2009, 07:11 PM OK, Thanks for the info Vinny. Vic
Vinnysrt8 01-20-2009, 07:15 PM No problem hope u buy one soon.
DevssrT 01-20-2009, 07:23 PM If I were you, id opt for the extended warranty Max Care option from Chrysler...just in case....I have one and its worth the price IMO (about 100 bucks a month)

championjeep 01-20-2009, 07:41 PM just get the extended warranty on the one that you dont have to drive to get
evo45 01-20-2009, 07:50 PM You think it is worth the drive for the one with the warranty? I was going to go into the dealer in town and offer him $21k and see what he does. I am willing to drive to the more expensive one but they need to be negotiable. I will give them a call in the morning and find out some info. I like to color of the close one better, it is steel blue. The futher one is silver but it looks very sharp too!
What are the different option packages that people say? What does each come with?
Thanks

What does an extended warranty cost on one of these Jeeps with 38k mileage?
Vic
ResumeSpeed 01-21-2009, 05:43 AM I have had great reliability with the two Jeep SRT8's that I have owned, but if I were buying one used I'd make sure I had a Chrysler/Jeep warranty. By the time you add a warranty to the one with 38k miles you'd probably be close to what you would pay for the other with far fewer miles and a remaining factory warranty. Depending on the build date, the remaining warranty time-wise on the 23k miles vehicle could be 5-6 months or almost a year and a half.
Depending on the options, the low-mileage model with warranty may be a far better value than the other. It would also be advantageous to see the repair history of both. Take your time looking and comparing, be patient, plenty out there.
See this post per buying used Jeep SRT8's:
