: ipod rip off?
limeylee 01-19-2007, 07:39 PM My new Mopar ipod interface is in at the dealer but they want $200 to install it.
Is this fair? can I do it myself without any special tools or knowlage?
Any reviews from people who already have it in?
Thanks.
OurZoo 01-19-2007, 08:51 PM I'm sure it isn't that hard, but when I do it I'll have the dealer install as well. $200 installed is fair. It's the new adapter right, not the old. This is the one that plays through the nav?
2MCHPSI 01-19-2007, 09:30 PM I will walk you through it step by step if needed. DO NOT pay $200 for that install - honestly you can take it to Best Buy and they can install it for ~$35-$50.
OurZoo 01-19-2007, 10:20 PM Ewwwwwww, correction. I thought you meant $200 bucks for the unit and installed. Damn, that is highway robbery.
ChrisWK 01-21-2007, 04:27 PM Do it yourself ,Do not go to Best Buy.

I installed mine in 30minutes or less. Do not pay anybody to do it. The kit isn't even worth $215 to buy.
Mine worked the first night and hasn't worked since. I am not sure if it is because it is so cold here or what.... I am really pissed. I need to call the maker of the kit to ask what is wrong..... or return it
.... I don't leave my ipod in the car at night either
limeylee 01-21-2007, 08:38 PM Installed it this weekend, took about an hour (had some problems with the glove box?)
Works well so far, (warm here in CA) still getting used to the funtionality, seems a bit strange.
Very glad I didn't pay the dealer!

the glove box was pretty tricky. Its weird it just says "starting communication" and thats all it does and I don't know what the deal is. We haven't really been above 20F all week. I will call the maker tomorrow.
jhhawaii 01-21-2007, 10:47 PM Do you guys have the nav or standard radio. I have the standard, and had the ipod adapter installed by the dealer when i bought the jeep. Problem is, i bought the car in Denver and shipped the car to Hawaii where it live. Dealers here wont let them go for less than $10k over MSRP, but that's a whole nother story.
My ipod adapter doesn't work, never has. I push the "Mode" button on the stereo, and it goes to CD. I push it again, nothing. I have to push the am/fm button to get it off cd, and at no point does it go to aux. I have gotten conflicting reports as to whether the mopar ipod adapter is compatible with the standard stereo. NEED to know becuase either it needs to be fixed by the local dealer here and the dealer i bought the jeep from pay, or if it is not compatible, i want my money back! Any help is appreciated.
And yes, $200 for the install is a ripoff. What are they charging 2-2.5hrs. of labor for a 30min job?

Does this Ipod connection only work for Ipods In general Or (is that a stupid question?)
idealrides 01-22-2007, 12:01 AM i heard it doesn't work properly with the iPod video. what type of iPods are you guys using?

MjrCarNut 01-22-2007, 12:07 AM I'm thinking I should have bought an Ipod, I have the Creative player, and I think that was a waste of money, seems like the Ipod Has almost every add on and functionality there is!
I can get a kit for my Roush that controlls Ipods through the Stereo but no other players.
Guess I've learned my lesson on that one!

The iPod adaptor is compatible with all factory radios available for your SRT8. If it were me I would pull the radio and double-check all of the connections. Being that the adaptor was installed by a dealer it is covered under the factory Mopar warranty, which means that your local dealer would be able to fix it and file a warranty claim.

You'll have to wait til spring for the tar to be coming off... its so icy on i-25 anymore that you can't drive on it. I saw so many accidents yesterday just from a light 3in of snow.
It works with all aux players. it has the ipod hookup that works with your controls and shows ont he screeen or you can use a diff mp3 player but you have to control the songs with the player with the extra aux input.
I have the nav so I am not sure if we have the same one and if it works with the non-nav radio.
SilverSRT8 01-22-2007, 07:11 AM i heard it doesn't work properly with the iPod video. what type of iPods are you guys using?
I have the video ipod. It says in the book that it works with it.
phenwick 01-22-2007, 09:11 AM Do you guys have the latest software installed on the ipod?
idealrides 01-22-2007, 09:50 AM I have the video ipod. It says in the book that it works with it.
i know it's supposed to work with all ipods but the parts manager at a Jeep dealership told me that his customers are having problems with the adaptor freezing/crashing only when using it with the iPod video. maybe you can try a non-video ipod to see if your adaptor works any better?

SilverSRT8 01-22-2007, 12:42 PM latest software installed. I will try my g/f's mini ipod to see if her ipod works
SilverSRT8 01-23-2007, 09:52 PM Ok.... tried a ipod mini and sure enough it loaded right up. I am restoring my ipod to brand new and reloading songs on it just to see if that will help.
Called the number on the box from the place that makes them.... more than 5 times and no answer and never called back after message left. If this restore does not work I am taking it back. So far my view on this ipod kit.... P.O.S.
idealrides 01-24-2007, 11:27 AM if they won't give you a complete refund for whatever reason let me know, maybe I'll take it off your hands. I have an ipod video too but would actually buy a nano just for the car.

limeylee 01-24-2007, 02:37 PM I have the Photo, my son has a video, it works fine with both???
SilverSRT8 01-24-2007, 04:03 PM what the hell. This makes me mad. we buy nice things so we can enjoy them and I can't even use my damn ipod with my damn car. ugh.
Maybe I will have the dealership get me a new one. They said they would... and I will see if that solves it.
WJ_Jeep 01-24-2007, 06:19 PM Just installed mine, took less than 1 hour!

SLIPPIN 02-12-2007, 12:41 PM You guys that have the Mopar integration kit, is it just a FM modulator? You have to have your radio on a certain station and it play the music through your FM tuner? If so, has anyone found something different?

No it is not FM, it is the real deal. Plugs in and charges while in use, control of ipod from head unit and steering wheel controls. Of course mine was installed as doesn't work. Jeep is at the dealer to be fixed now, along with TCM reflash. Suspect it is the stereo itself as the mode button only goes to CD, not aux when pushed. But i don't know. I have the non NAV radio.
Some have told me the ipod adapter is NOT compatible with this radio. Others have said it is. Dealer is clueless either way even though chrysler has said this adapter is compatible with ALL 06 models. Hopefully by the end of the day, i will have a better answer for you. I am going to put a new thread out now about this issue to see if i can get any responses, hasn't worked before but that was months ago.
cajunlab 02-12-2007, 02:40 PM I understand the DC ipod adapter deletes all your Sirius channel presets everytime you toggle the source to the ipod, correct?
If you have rear DVD why not just plug into audio input jacks?
SLIPPIN 02-12-2007, 07:47 PM Anybody have a Mopar part number for the non fm modulator adaptor kit? And a idea of what one costs?
