: Exhaust Systems?

Does anyone feel like the GC SRT needs a new exhaust? I feel like it has a nice "throaty" sound from the factory, but for some reason I always like to change exhaust systems right off the bat.

Me too, but actually I think the factory exhaust is perfect, not too loud, not too quiet. I was looking into removing the cats but the problem is it seems nobody has O2 sensor simulators that are compatible with CAN-bus vehicles. So now the plan is to replace the center resonator (which is a single can with dual-in and dual-out) with either straight pipes or seperate performance tunnel mufflers... maybe with electric cutouts. :D

I haven't heard or seen a Jeep SRT yet, but I already know I'm going to rework the exhaust just to pull my Sea Doo's without burning my hands on the exhaust pipes. Mopars hitch option lowers the exit pipes about 2 inches and installes the hitch above 'em. It just seems to likely that I may accidentally burn myself.

When mine arrives, I plan on sending the exit pipes to behind the rear wheels and just have the hitch come out the center cut-out. Center exhaust is nice, but I could care less.

The tips are so far back from the source of heat I think they will cool off very quickly... I dont think I'd worry about burning myself on them.

Just a hunch tho.

Don't say that, both my son and I have had 2nd degree burns from the exhaust tip on my SRT-4 on our legs. We now have matching 1/4 circle burn scars... The right side exhaust tip sticks out 1/4" beyond the bumper fascia than the other.

Wow, I never noticed mine getting very hot. Of course, the length of the Cherokee is quite a bit more then the SRT-4 as well :)

When I saw this, I just pictured myself accidentally burning my hands - I pull my Sea Doo's every week. The wiring looks like it might be at risk of burning too.

Had mine done, Custom catback, Magnaflow Muffler with no resonators, N.A.S.T.Y.

Does anyone have a pic of the hitch w/o the receiver on?

That hitch pic is most likely a photoshop product, doesn't look real to me.
I have done a hitch on my truck and will post pic if I can. The factory 3500# hitch fits perfectly. Remove the plastic bumper fascia. Remove the factory hanger and save. The hitch mounts with two additional bolts, 4 total. I chose to modify the factory hanger, cut off the two nuts welded to it, cut off the lip to make it a flat plate. Then you have to notch for the inner end of the receiver. Cut the ends of the outer hitch bolts off flush with the nuts and place the modified hanger back on the two center hitch bolts, and put on a second pair of nuts. It will make sense when you actually look at the setup. This maintains the exact factory height and spacing of the exhaust. The wiring is already there, the four wire connector fits into a slot on the hitch. Then the fascia has to be trimmed with a Dremel or other tool to fit. Many people may not want to do this, but I couldn't wait for the factory setup, if it looks a lot better I might change when it is available. I use shock cord on the safety chains so they don't touch the exhaust tips. You can choose any hitch insert for the receiver, I used a 2" drop so my boat rides properly.
Thanks to my friend Jim at Midas for the cutting and grinding on the hanger.

wow, I wouldn't have thought that you could keep the factory tips after installing a Class3 receiver. Please post pics when you get a chance.

I honestly believe the lighting is superior to my E46 M3's factory projector HID's which are excellent. One question, when you went to the 80 Watt Hi beams did you use relays or simply connect to the factory wiring. Thanks for your time.

I am hearing that a Magnaflow kit will be available in roughly 4-6 weeks. It should be awesome!:D

yeah it's the best beam pattern i've ever seen from a reflector, aside from the e-code H6054.

For both the high beam and the hid low beam, I connected them directly to the car's wiring harness, they both work perfectly, no blown fuses, no overheating wires, etc. The wires are heavy enough for 80 watts but I wouldn't go to 100 watts, that would be stretching it. I highly recommend the Hoen bulbs, they also have matching fog lights (9145 = H10).

I hear Borla makes a pretty stellar system for our rigs.
