Can anyone help. I have just bought a 2000 grand explorer and the manual is in German. I either cannot get my key to turn in the ignition or it won't come out. I am sure it is something simple but any help would be appreciated.

On alot of newer german cars they will not let you turn the ignition unless you press the brake pedal...for removing the key the only thing i can think of is like a sterring colum lock or something.

I do not know what a 2000 Grand Explorer is, but some cars if the engine is shut off with the power steering in a bind, it causes the wheel lock to put so much pressure on the key that it will not come out or turn. Try pulling on the wheel hard in each direction while pulling on the key and see if it lets go.

Another possibility, Some new cars require the transmission to be in park before the key can be removed. Try shifting the vehicle into nuetral and back to park. Also try rocking the vehicle when in park to move the linkage. Hope this helps, good luck.

On my 99 Grand Cherokee I had this problem... there was a rubber cover over the shifter safety latch that had slipped out of it's place and blocked the latch from seating fully. You can tell if this is the problem because it will shift out of park without having to push the latch.
casakama, if it won't turn AND it won't come out, that sounds like a mechanical jam in the switch itself, maybe a broken pin, and you might even need a new ignition switch. Seek a mechanic!

Thanks for your help, I can now get my key out but now it won't turn and start so I guess I need a new lock and a mechanic.
