Good point. I think many of us might be confused on this one since so many spec sheets (WK included) listed it as a DANA 44 (226RBI).
Is it the pinion gear that's different, teeth, or what? It is a 3.73:1 ratio though isn't it? I'm curious as to what you have found.

Actually, the pinion gear is slightly larger than the Dana 44.
Marketing was originally going to call it a Dana 45.
3.73:1 ratio
I've now finished testing the 8.8 rear diff as a simple replacement for our NON-limited slip rear diff.;)

I'm about ready to throw my 9" off a cliff Bill. Sounds like an extra Ford C6 transmission back there ready to come through the firewall.
I'll miss the ARB severly though.

Too funny Winston!
Maybe we could have a party and throw the 9" Ford's from a Helicopter!
The 8.8 is about as quite as a stocker, even with the Detroit True-Trac.
With it being powder coated (per your suggestion Winston) it looks as good as the paint job on my rig.:)
Why will you miss the ABR....my new 8.8 burns BOTH tires with the True-trac and there are no friggen switches, compressors, lines fittings etc.
Also, it's ratio is a perfect 3.73:1 (not 3.70:1 like the 9" Ford...not that it really makes much difference).

That looks nice Bill. How's that 8.8 do in the turns with the foot on the gas in the rain? I'd almost like to get one on appearances alone. I hate the factory flaking :(

I have been using the 8.8 in every situation I could think of for the past 4,000 miles without issue.
Rain, brake torquing turning in the rain, goosing it in turns etc.
Not an issue.
