Yes I totally agree that there should be a private tech section. Too much bullchit going on. Ruining our forum.

Would it be viewable by all? I'm sure I wouldn't have much (if anything) to add, but I would like to be able to see it....

I dont think its a good idea if u cant see whats going on and i think it will be a pain to let people in it if they had a answer.

I vote no because I am afraid the implementation will lock me out of the valuable information contained therein. While I don't (yet) have a lot to offer in terms of how to mod or upgrade, I still benefit greatly from the information. And occasionally, I do have something to offer, and might have more as I start to really get involved.

IFF it was viewable by all, and IFF maybe a moderator could allow reasonably pertinent posts from un-anointed members then I guess I'd be OK with it - if it has to happen.

But a section that only the blessed could read? fergit it.

I still think it would be a really bad idea because then the forum loses some of it's intended purpose: to create a place for JGCSRT8 fanboys to meet and greet, and post up questions and answers from their experience. Creating a tiered system like you propose would have the tendency to thwart new members and dialogue from old and less experienced members.

Negative effects:
1. Folks happening upon the forum from say Google would not continue or join, if they could not read and interact.
2. Un-anointed members could not comment in the area, even if they have a spot-on comment or experience.
3. Anointed members would probably not troll the lower levels and maybe miss something that they could share valuable info on.
4. No POHO'ing in serious threads (just kidding on this one)
5. No "Ur gonna void ur warranty" commentary in every thread (JK, too)

I understand the frustration with all the POHO'ing, but there is already a very valuable tool on the site to deal with this: the IGNORE button. Maybe the mods should modify the site so that it sends a PM telling someone they've been ignored every time somebody ignores them. THAT would be a powerful anti-POHO measure!!!

Just my $0.02.

I don't know if any of you are on corner-carvers or Pirate 4x4 but they have a newb tech section and a hardcore tech section. If a newb question is posted in the hardcore section the poster gets ripped to shreads. They keep those sections clean by FEAR!! Works great. It's user moderated.

This would work great. I like that idea.

This is the stuff that a forum is: People making commentary on a subject making various viewpoints known, complete with participation by a POHO (sorry Ace)...

So, does it need to change, or is the IGNORE button sufficient?

An example of my suggestion:

A discussion on the best CAI would be in the Newb Tech. Any J@ckass can comment on it because in the grand scheme of things it's not really critical.

A discussion on rod angle's in stroker motor's or cam lift / duration for a forced induction setup would be in the Hardcore Tech section. Only folks who truly understand the dynamics of how these parameters effect performance should comment on this stuff.

It is also a great way for Newby's to learn- they can read and ask questions but bull$hit Vinny comments won't be tolerated.

just to blow your argument out the water, i know nothing about CAI and once my warranty is up i will be asking about getting one , i am sorry these sort of questions are now below the likes of you ,, i am really disgusted buy the way this forum has went in the last few weeks, we have the likes of pRickG wishing death on matt being welcomed back into the fold like a long lost son , Vinny being called out for (god forbid) posting on the forum , and now we have the likes of you deciding that you are too good to share the same pages as the rest of us uneducated plebs,,

Brian,

The CAI threads are not "below the likes of me." They have just been beaten to death- which everyone will agree!!! Personally, I am one of the lowest posters here- they only time I post is when I feel I have some valid information to share based on my knowledge and experience. I have plenty of automotive knowledge and street cred- through my personal experience, formal technical training, and the various forms of competitive motorsports I am involved in. I only share my opinion when I feel it is going to be a benefit to someone in the forum and only when I'm sure the information in my response is proven and or valid. You don't see me posting about my life's problems and and other things of that nature. The FEW BS posts I've made are in the CORRECT forum for those things- the OFF TOPIC section. I hope nobody takes my comments personally but TECH belongs in TECH forms all other BS belongs in OFF TOPIC. Of the 29 pages in the last BJB / DYONSTEVE post- only about 20 posts have any sort of valid info. It really sucks to have to go through 29 pages of BS to find out what happened- Just ask HarrisionZ (Sorry to include you Bud!)

ALSO PLEASE READ MY POST- IT SAY SAYS THAT NEWBS CAN SEE AND POST IN THE HARDCORE SECTIONS JUST NO BS POSTS LIKE "GOOD LUCK MAN- VINNY" WOULD POST. I ALSO SAID IT SHOULD BE USER MODERATED NOT PRIVATE.

RANT OVER.

-Scott.

I like the idea of a Hardcore Tech section and a Newb Tech Section...learn alot from BBill, BJB, Hemituner, Southern Hotrod and what not...Hell, Paulie can start a HID/Lights section....it would make the forum more organized IMO...
