: Transfer case dealer outcome
ajharman 12-23-2008, 10:44 AM Well just got off the phone with my dealer. They changed my TC fluid and they said it was DIRTY. They inspected inside and out and said they didnt find any metal shavings or whatnot and the clutches were still in good shape. He said the componet of the fluid will break down causing the clutches to go bad and it looks like we caught the problem before it went that direction. So my TC is all good and they test drove it and they said it wasnt HOPPING anymore when turning which was what it was doing.
CHECK THIS! I started talking to my service guy about my truck and the mods I have done to it. He loved my headers and all and he started talking about how he has a CMR TUNING business on the side and has tune and installed heads cam etc on his sons srt4 so this dude knows his stuff.
Then I said, so what if I would get a CMR tune for my jeep...would that void my warranty? He said NO hahaha...if something goes wrong you could just load up the stock one and everything would be good. He said I should probably get one to maximize me headers and intake. haha I love it.
MY DEALER IS THE COOLEST EVER!!!!!
Actually he has another jeep in the show that they just put an intake, Borla S, and a tune in haha. They are going to put a supercharger in it come spring. I think I found a place to get performance work done.
Oh yea...they had tis sitting in the showroom...

robpp 12-23-2008, 11:03 AM What a nice XMAS present.
Everywhere else its: Coulnt replicate, no touch. For everything even water leaks from the sun roof.
Also, it might make sense to go on an extreme change cycle on the TC fluid. Its rather easy to do yourself. let me know I can get the info and pics from the service manual.
ajharman 12-23-2008, 11:06 AM Well they changed the fluid for me...what is this extreme change you talk of Rob?
SRT8 4 J 12-23-2008, 11:10 AM Glad to hear things went your way...i wish I could find a mod friendly dealer near me-actually one that would JUST fix any issue. I still can't even get my passenger express window issue done(couldn't duplicate) my butt!! I changed my tc fluid at 10000. IT was nasty.
robpp 12-23-2008, 11:17 AM Well they changed the fluid for me...what is this extreme change you talk of Rob?
I mean like if it calls for every 15K, change it even more frequent than that. Maybe every 10K. Razor has shown what his fluid looks like after 6K once and it was mud.
Thats great they did it for free. The fluid, you need 2 qts, is like more than 30 per quart. I think it might even be 40 per.
ajharman 12-23-2008, 11:30 AM I actually bought the fluid because I was going to do it myself. Then it started acting up (which was just a sign that it needed changing bad) so I just took it in. All good now.

Thats great news.........:bigthumb: How many miles do you have?

The owners manual actually says to change at 30,000 miles.

ajharman 12-23-2008, 05:17 PM I just passed 25,000. Yes it says 30,000 miles but some of us drive these jeeps how they are suppose to be driven, therefore they could use a fluid change sooner sometimes.
Hey rick, if I change it sooner than 30k exactly will it void my warranty????
DevssrT 12-23-2008, 05:20 PM Glad to hear it all worked out for you buddy!!....Good Stuff!

I siad "LIKE IF" so I was guessing, and yes, you are correct, both Schedule A and B call for 30K.
But some have posted that after many less miles than that, if they drain it, its muddy.
Rick G 12-23-2008, 05:26 PM I agree it should be changed before 30k after hearing about and seeing what the fluid looks like with alot less miles than that. Preventive maintenance. ;)
As for whether it will void your warranty.........I would say no.
ajharman 12-24-2008, 07:29 AM preventive maintenace is right. she drives better in the snow now...she isnt so confused and choking on her own sludge now. nice and smooth
Vinnysrt8 12-24-2008, 07:32 AM Good to hear that the dealer fixed it for u.
chriscorv5 12-24-2008, 11:31 AM The Honda CR-V's have the same problems with there rear diff. They get all clunky, simple fluid change and your good togo.
780XO 12-24-2008, 11:44 AM Does the fluid come with an adapter to refill the TC or how is it done. I looked at the WK directions and looks pretty easy (I have access to a lift) but didn't know about the refill. Thanks and Merry Christmas

I'd like to know this as well.
BuilderBill 12-28-2008, 08:36 PM I'd like to know this as well.
Pretty easy, although you need something to get the fluid from the quart into the TC...like a hose or an adapter from a rear diff lube bottle.
If your TC is ever out, I recommend filling (actually overfilling) it 1st and then draining a little out when the rig is level.:)
