: how fast i been in my gc srt8
jordo9998 01-13-2007, 10:40 AM Well,
I was on 696 here in michigan last weekend at about 1:45 am on Sunday night with two of my friends in the car and I punched my srt8...
I hit about 144 and it still had more but my friends told me to back off the gas. they didn't want to flip over. givin enough time I could have gotten up to 155 to 160.
I also didn't want to harm the car going such fast speeds but wow did it feel good going so fast in an SUV. before that in my jeep overland i hit about 115 before the limiter top the car out and slowed me down to 45 mph.
gculver 01-13-2007, 10:50 AM I find it amazing that the jeep is pretty stable at high speeds, for a SUV. But I like to think of it in terms of " It's not how fast can it go, but how quick can it get there.:) "
jordo9998 01-13-2007, 12:10 PM after about 100 I think the pickup starts to feel like a normal suv.. this car was really only made to have the most fast 0-60 time on the market for an suv.
HoustonSRT-8 01-13-2007, 06:05 PM I've been 140 and it didn't feel like it was slowing anytime soon.

A normal suv quits at 100 we are just getting started. Been to 140 still climbing good, but time to stop in Wyoming, they will just hall you and your jeep away.
Untouchable 01-13-2007, 09:03 PM I have taken mine over 160, yeah aerodynamics play a part over 120 but it keeps going. I am surprised that the low gearing lets the truck go that fast
2MCHPSI 01-13-2007, 11:14 PM Ah 696 - Michigans Autobahn...
Been up to 140-ish on 696 myself.
140 On 355N in Chicagoland. Handles great.
TCE LONESTAR 01-15-2007, 09:29 AM 165 on the Cadereyta-McAllen highway
BahnBlastR 01-15-2007, 09:59 AM 165+ on the autobahn and there is nothing "normal" -- in an SUV way -- about the way this thing pulls and shifts at 140 from 4th to 5th. Love it!!!
ronald mcglothlin 01-15-2007, 11:34 AM Have an uncle that drove on the autobahn. One of the only very few places that we could really enjoy our Jeeps to the fullest.
asphaltcowboy 02-03-2007, 11:27 PM i been 168 on hardty toll road going to the woodlands racing a cl63suv one you past 120 or so man it just keeps climbing be fore you know it
jaybruce 02-04-2007, 06:01 AM I've been going 160+ the last couple days on the now 20, instead of 30 min commute to work. Never had so much fun watching a half tank of gas per round trip go by. It's so cool terrorizing "fast" mercedees on the way to work.
jlandbl 02-04-2007, 06:49 AM You guys are all guts!! Extremely high speeds (> 95) are not for me on public roads in the US in any car.
AlexT 02-04-2007, 06:52 AM You guys are all guts!! Extremely high speeds (> 95) are not for me on public roads in the US in any car.
+1.
But my guess is this wouldn't be a popular stance around here. :p
I get my speed fix in more controlled environments.

I agree!!
...but I'm in Germany:)

I know. I wouldn't have shared my stance if I couldn't take the possible abuse that might be coming my way.

Well, I won't knock others for it, but there are too many variables out of my control on public roads for me to risk it. Life's too fragile and short enough as it is.

And that was a great way to present it, instead of another on this site who acts like your parent. :)
gunford 02-04-2007, 11:57 AM First post here from Canada. I have had it up to 240kmh, about 150mph up a hill. I was cruising at a nice 70mph when a hummer went by. After a couple of seconds I decided to step on it, I was doing about 125mph by time I passed him. I love it!!!
jordo9998 02-04-2007, 03:03 PM 1:45 am on Sunday night = empty roads.
No danger except to myself and I like it that way.
I don't know about u guys, but I didn't buy this car to think about going fast...
palo alto dave 02-04-2007, 08:00 PM Been 140 a few times, the Jeep is rock solid at thoses speeds. I Don't hammer it till I all alone with the radar detector on..............
BlackedOut 02-04-2007, 11:15 PM 165+ on the autobahn and there is nothing "normal" -- in an SUV way -- about the way this thing pulls and shifts at 140 from 4th to 5th. Love it!!!
Ive been about 163 or 164 but i dont think you can go much past that since i was basically at redline in 5th gear (6000 rpms so only 200 or so left maybe will get you 1 or 2 mph, i think down hill you with a tail wind you could get to 166 or so but thats it). How are you gettng 165+ mph?? i dont thing that is even possible in this car...
But anyways this car pulls hard all the way up to that speed. definatly is a bit more sluggish once you hit 120 or so but still alot faster than most sedans at that speed.
MOTV8D 02-07-2007, 01:59 AM I was able to get mine upto 145 mph before I had to get out of it. The best time was once when I did a 40-125 mph blast while racing a SRT10 (standard cab, 6 speed version) and he finally got off of it when he could not pull away from me. After racing we stopped at the local quikky store and he was stunned, he was unaware that there was an SRT8 Jeep. Best time in the Jeep so far :)

What type of "fast" Mercedes are you referring too? because my "fast" Mercedes will terrorize and rape the SRT8 from a stop and a roll.
Tom C 02-09-2007, 02:19 PM A couple of weeks ago I was on a Parkway with a little bit of traffic and saw a grey E46 BMW M3 a couple of cars ahead. It looked like it had an aftermarket exhaust (the quad tips were a little bigger and thicker ...maybe Eisenmann). I was following behind for a couple of miles before the parkway became one lane (the right lane becomes an exit only). The entrance ramp from that exit then becomes the new "right lane" a couple of hundred feet down the line. Everyone...except the BMW M3 moved over to the right lane (there is an exit on the right about 1 mile from this point to a major highway). As soon as I saw the last car in front of the M3 move over I knew he would punch it. He did...but hed didn't expect this "Jeep" to be glued to his bumper. He put no distance between us as we were well into the triple digits. He got off at the exit 1/4 mile after the major highway exit. However....I did glance at the line of cars in the right lane....and saw an SL55 AMG...Just as Mr. M3 was exiting...I see the SL55 coming up on me. I was going slow..moving over to the right lane...waiting for him after the M3 exited (plus cops hang out around this part of the parkway). The SL55 gets right on my bumper...and starts flashing his lights. I was taking it easy ..waiting...as soon as we passed the cop's normal hiding spot...he pulls out to the left lane. I down shift manually and bury the throttle. The SL55 must not have been trying 100%...because he didn't pass me while I was full throttle. I slowed down...knowing that a left entrance from a highway was coming up...and just beyond that was another cops spot. The SL55 blows by me....he then slows down but stays 10 car lengths ahead. We pass where the cops usually...but not tonight. I then gun it up the long straight road...he wasn't expecting me to blow by him in the left lane. But he is game....as I have my throttle buried I see him creeping up on me in the right lane. I felt the car stop accelerating with the same thunder...it was kind of disconcerting. I look down at the speedo.... oh...no wonder I am at 140mph+. By this time I back off the throttle as a car is in the left lane up ahead. The SL55 slows down too...he seems to have been pacing me the entire time. I got held up with the car in the left and he finally blows by on the right. I pass the guy in the left lane as well. The parkway then ended and we were on some back roads. We ran into traffic and didn't get a chance to play further. It was fun...but the SL55 was probably toying with me. He seemed to just try to match my speed rather than blow me away (which he could have done at anytime).
Tom
El Jefe 02-09-2007, 03:28 PM good story!!!
jaybruce 02-11-2007, 05:35 AM What type of "fast" Mercedes are you referring too? because my "fast" Mercedes will terrorize and rape the SRT8 from a stop and a roll.
easy...not trying to ruffle any feathers...it's just that here in germany it seams that anyone that can go over 130 thinks there the cats pajamas and when your suddenly on there ass comming from 160 they have no desire to get the hell out of the way. I know if a monster porsche ever gets on my ass, I'm movin' over.
oman srt8 02-11-2007, 07:51 AM i test my car its closed in 270km it was great:):)
uae455 02-11-2007, 09:14 AM guysssssssssssss..........we can all say we got to that speed and with all do respect plzzz guys post pics of the speedometer hitting those great numbers thanks all and keep up those numbers........

No offense, but I'd rather have you not believe me/us than try to take a picture at those speeds. It's a dangerous enough move to go 140+ on ANY U.S. Roads, let alone throw in the multi-tasking of taking a "decent" picture.
Behairy 02-11-2007, 03:42 PM guysssssssssssss..........we can all say we got to that speed and with all do respect plzzz guys post pics of the speedometer hitting those great numbers thanks all and keep up those numbers........
I Actually second that :) , if not please tell me about the corresponding rpm for that speed... Did anybody ever hit the limiter on fifth gear ???
StageFright 02-11-2007, 10:07 PM LOL, all these guys saying they have been 160+ mph in a SRT Jeep, do any of you have GPS evidence of these speeds?
Because that speedo is wrong as two left shoes at those speeds.
Hallstar 02-12-2007, 12:58 AM I've been 160+ at least 3 nights a week coming from the gym at 2am for the last 3 weeks on 95 south!!! I recently been taking 29 cause I passed a State Trooper at the Calverton exit going about 145...lets just say I made it home very quickly and lost site off him pretty quickly!!! In case there are police here...I'm joking...I would never pass 65...i'm afraid a wheel will come off or I will strike a large elephant(terrible re occuring dream I keep having)...Keep up the good work guys...I need the repeat business...get out there and get those horrible people with dark tint...CRIMINALS!!!

Hallstar 02-12-2007, 01:14 AM STAGE FRIGHT...
Man...you make me laugh...You really are captain negativity!!! I just read that Daimler Chrysler built the speedo 30mph off so that we could lie to girls to impress them!!! It was in Men's Health that when a man sees 160 on his speedometer it will in turn make him a better lover and he will lose 1-3 inches off his waistline...also in the P.S. if the sunroof is open it will regenerate his hairgrowth and can increase the bloodflow to his love tube for increased satisfaction!!! MAGAZINES ARE AWESOME...160mph speedo designed to increase libido but fooling you all the while into being a better man,Husband, and lover cause it could be a hoax...WHO KNEW???

StageFright 02-12-2007, 10:40 PM You really are captain negativity
Make that Captain Reality,
I have had my Hayabusa up to a speedo indicated 205 mph, but I know that speed is not accurate and probably about 10 mph off.
Hallstar 02-12-2007, 11:16 PM I agree that on bikes there is speedo ballooning...
drive like you stole it 02-13-2007, 05:05 PM Was on the Garden State Parkway just after the Outerbridge Crossing and see a Yellow Charger SRT8 Super Bee coming up fast. We ran for about 15 mins. and hit 140 at one point. That Dodge consistently kept 3/4 to a car length ahead of me (minimaly) and at about 95 just kept widening the distance...he might of had mods but I think that car is just lighter than ours. Anyways I was impressed at how solid these trucks are at 140.
StageFright 02-14-2007, 12:14 AM If you can get a Jeep SRT-8 to run a GPS verified 160+ mph I am sure DCX would love to see it.
BahnBlastR 02-14-2007, 10:03 AM Guys, if I were still in Germany I would be glad to help you out with that. My portable GPS was always in the car and the speedometer was only off by about 2-3 MPH at speed. You can see by my avitar that the car has about 300 RPM left and we were travelling at @164 when the pic was taken. With enough (safe) road and a higher rev-limit, this truck will easily go 165+. The truck shifts every time at 140 MPH from 4th to 5th - and that is a beautiful thing in a freakin SUV :) . Wish they would slap the AMG seven speed in this......may not be the best for stop light to stop light, but would have been great on the autobahn. Also, as car speedometers go, my G35 Coupe was electronically limited to 156 MPH and it was true to form on the autobahn -- 156 and you are limited. My BMW 3 series was the same way over there when you hit 155, it was done. Just my 2 cents.
gerry_miranda 02-23-2007, 09:29 AM You guys that o 165+, how long does that take? Im not normally afraid to do top speed runs, but if it takes forever Im afarid I can get caught by a cop or traffic. I do it all the time on my M3. It traps at 116 on the quarter and Im still afraid that I can get caught running to 160.
whiskey 02-23-2007, 09:37 AM You can see by my avitar that the car has about 300 RPM left and we were travelling at @164 when the pic was taken.

justyli 02-23-2007, 10:59 AM I did 171 mph (275 km/h) on the speedo with my first silver SRT8.
With the new black one I have not been on the Autobahn yet.
But as I learned yesterday, I did an upgrade now to the fastest color.
Maybe I can try the next days.
