: Put my Hitch on

Now I have a true 13sec sport UTILITY Vehicle. I put the 2inch Grand Cherokee hitch on. It went on fairly easy. It does take away from the exhaust a bit so now I will just have to get the Corsa or some cat back with bigger pipes. Since it ends where the tips ends I think most cat backs will fit. The new purists may not like it, but now I can tow my trailer for dirt bikes and my boat in and out of the marina ramp, so I am pretty happy. I cut flipped and welded the safety chain hooks.

Gotta have a hitch! I hear ya. Doesn't look so bad, really. Just get a cap that looks just like an exhaust port, and they'll be really squeemish pulling up next you. :)

Nice hitch set up. Ive seen where the exhaust pipes are moved to the side with cutouts in the bumper, but your setup seems simpler. Did you have to cut out a section of the bumper just above the pipes for the hitch to fit?

The only thing I might do in thte future is trim back the actual hitch flush with the bumper and make a black plate the covers the hitch. For now its fine. I had to notch the bumper a little bit above the rolled edge area.

I did the same on mine, but had to modify the exhaust hanger. Did you have this problem? Looking at the pic from under your jeep, it doesn't look like it.

Yes i trimmed the exhaust hanger and bolted it to the back of the hitch on top of the hitch mount bolts. Also I put the center 2 bolts with the heads facing the rear bumper and the outer 2 bolts head facing the front of the car. I moved the hanger slightly forward, but I can remove the hanger without having to take off the fascia. After driving around today I think it looks better without the rubber jeep cover, so I am looking for something to sit flat and close to flush.

It looks a lot better than I expected. So what kind of toys will you be pulling with it?

Looks nice. Sadly, you won't be able to use a Corsa or aftermarket exhaust now.

Not True, I have the BB exhaust on mine. Put it on at the same time as the hitch. I did the hitch, then had an exhaust shop put on the BB system. Fits no problem. And yes, to me the hitrch is less noticable w/o the rubber cover which is included.

I think that is an advantage of having a black SRT w/our hitch limitations. The black reciever doesn't really stand out against the black bumper like on red or silver. Still obviously not as clean looking as stock though, but hey, I gotta get my boat in the water.

To answer a couple other questions i read in the threads, yes, you have to take the bumper cover off. Once that is done, 4 bolts and the hitch is on. Where you have to get creative is on the wire harness location, it wont bolt to the hitch with the SRT bumper cover. Still haven't figured out what i am goin to do with that. I am towing a 19' Sea Ray bow rider, about 3,200lbs total. I only tow about 3 miles each way. The SRT hardly realizes it is towing anything. I will get pics one of these days and post them.

I cut the harness mount off and reversed the safety chain mounts. I am going to have to use and extended flat 4 wire for the boat trailer, but the bike trailer reaches to the stock flat 4 mount locations.

I agree that most Aftermarket exhausts WILL fit because the hitch is up so high in the bumper. The thing to make it even better is to cut some of the receiver length down and make it flush with the bumper. I am not sure if that would change the engineering load amount on the receiver square but It should not be to bad.

Once that is done, 4 bolts and the hitch is on.I didn't remove the bumper cover to put my hitch on. I used a Sawzall to cut the heads off the factory bolts holding the exhaust bracket on. I used the factory GC/Commander 1.25" hitch as a platform to custom build my hitch. As it is rated for the same 3,500 as the GC SRT8 is I saw no need to use a 2" receiver for my application.
