: Questions about factory orders on GCSRT8
9900rpm 01-09-2007, 02:58 PM Hi. I did a factory order on a '07 Grand Cherokee SRT8 back on 12.9.06. I called the dealership today, and they told me it's in D status. What does that mean? They said it does not have a VIN, which to me, is bad news. The guy said I'm looking at another month. Is this true? Does anyone have an explaination on how the whole process works?
....itchin to get me GC SRT8. Thinking back, maybe I should have bought from a dealer that had one in stock.
BuilderBill 01-09-2007, 03:15 PM 9900rpm,
I had mine ordered and wrote a full payment check 11/10/07. A month later it was still in "D" status and the President of the dealership told me that Chrysler said it could be another 6 months. Another dealership (Stateline in Ft. Mill, SC) called me after I had my old Jeep in for service and told me that they had one coming in that day! Needless to say I am driving that one and the other dealership wrote me a refund check back with no questions. It appears that Chrysler is a real problem when it comes to building our units. BTW Stateline has another one in their showroom. The people there are great to work with...sales,parts and service.
Bottom line, I would start a search for one in stock!

I am going to ask for a refund of my $1000 deposit tomorrow. What exactly does D status mean, and is the dealership going to give me $h!t about me trying to get me deposit back, or, will they even give it back?

You can have your dealer get you an SRT8 from another dealer (any dealer in US that will trade w/them). This is how I got my SRT8, I wanted to buy from a certain dealer & no SRT8's are sold in my area. You can do a search online to see who has them(can take a long time), but your dealer knows they can do this & will do all the leg work for you.

I was specifically told by my dealer at the time of order that it would be more money if they were to do a swap, or get it from another dealership outrite. They (the dealer) has to pay a fee for this, and is not an even swap. Also, I know this dealership only has a red rock one on their lot, and it only has sunroof and SRT 1 option group. The one I ordered has everything.
Again, any idea on what I say to get my deposit back? Thanks in advance.
BuilderBill 01-09-2007, 08:16 PM The original dealer did not give me any static and refunded my money on the spot.
You should not have ANY problem since they can not produce the goods.

Well the dealer did tell me at the time of deposit that it would take a while, between 8 to 12 weeks. I am on week 4 or 5 now. I guess you're right about them not beingh able to produce the goods, because they told me today there was no VIN yet.
Black_SRT8 01-09-2007, 08:46 PM These aren't Ford Focuses.
The SRT8 GC is a limited production built to order vehicle. If you have an SRT8 GC built from scratch, you are looking at 2-3 months minimum. Anyone telling you differently is erroneous.
The guy who waited six months forgot to inform everyone that the plant was shutdown for multiple weeks during that time period.
Any more details of how one goes about requesting a dealer "swap" with another dealer for an SRT8? I can't find a black SRT8 in Vegas... Any certainty on the additional fees/costs when doing this? Would it be any problem trading in my current vehicle in this situation?

Dealers can see other dealers' inventories in a given distance just by using the DCX intranet. The problem is not finding an SRT8 on another lot, the hindrance is the reluctance to give up an SRT8 GC.
Just ask the dealer to help you find an SRT8 GC on another lot, and ask them if they can transfer it.
OurZoo 01-09-2007, 10:27 PM If you get an ordered SRT8 in less than 3 months, you are freakin lucky! Use the internet, an airplane, and a roadtrip to take her home. I wasn't about to order one and wait (not sleeping for 3 months was not going to work), looked for less than a week, and got exactly what I wanted.

....itchin to get me GC SRT8. Thinking back, maybe I should have bought from a dealer that had one in stock. MY Chrysler status code says 'D'-firm schedule;serial number is assigned 'D-1'-gateline; plant has sequenced the unit for production estimated ship date assigned 'D-2'-gateline; framing and build imminent, usually within 3 to 6 days. Hope this info is of some help to you. good luck

Thanks. So there's no telling when the D status will go to the D-1 or D-2, right?
Real nervous about asking my dealer for the refund of the deposit. I hope I don't have to give them hell.
candyman 01-10-2007, 08:06 AM Took 16 weeks to get my 06 after I ordered it.
Ink Pump 01-10-2007, 08:44 AM If you are willing to bend a little on the specification you should be able to find one in stock somewhere.
I would tell your dealer who already has your deposit to find you one or lose the business.
I tried to use the locator myself online but it does not work for the SRT8s
The dealer however has the ability to find one quickly at another dealer. Really you should be on the road in a week because there are some stock units out there.
The other thing is there might be another factory shut-down and that could delay your order even more.
I took one with the video system in it even though I didn't want it. Now I like it although its tough to steer from the rear seat:D
Good luck

Another factory delay? Where did this info come from?

Real nervous about asking my dealer for the refund of the deposit. I hope I don't have to give them hell. I do not have a direct answer to that , however I would tell the dealer that you understand from the jeep status manufacturing code that a 'D' indicates a VIN number has been assigned and you would like to have it to follow it through production. If you can get the number, then you can ask RESUME SPEED on our forum to help you. He must work there because he is a rath of info. He keep me clued in on my 07 and was right all along. Hope this helps.

My dealer"swapped" w/another dealer & I thoughht I had a deal w/EP & nothing else at first. Then the other dealer said there was no EP, & wouldn't give up the SRT8 w/o $300. I wasn't happy, but $300 compared to the overall price wasn't to bad, & my dealer waxed/sealed, rustproofed/undercoated, scotchgaurded, & paintpen (other stuff continuing) to help make up for the $300.
little leo 01-10-2007, 07:14 PM dude what state do you live in, you can just go to jeep.com, and look in invet. your self for any close dealer that has them in stock, it shows. i know nj, has alot of them on the lots. and the probl. with getting them to loacat you one and bring it in from another dealer is the other dealer prob wont trade it off, they will want to keep it for themselfs. I guess i got lucky i only waited a week for mine to come in, and like i said it was when they first came out. I know warnock in nj thats where i got mine always has at least 3 on there lot. you can get a refund, its in your contract. you have time to cancle order, if they dont deliver by a date. best of luck to you, and if you like the red, y dont you just take the one they have, do you really need a rear dvd player, is it just to you can say you have one, to show off or do you really have kids in the back of your truck. to me its stupid, to have it. cause i didnt by this truck for my kids. they get in my other cars. all you need is the sunroof and nav. take it, dont try to be blinging. you foooo lol lol jk
9900rpm 01-11-2007, 11:03 AM Haha. I actually do have a kid on the way, but by the time it gets old enough to watch DVD's, I probably would have sold this thing.
Anyway, I called the dealership yesterday asking to get my deposit back, and they told me no at first. I told them my situation, on how I can't wait too long for the truck. They are calling their regional rep and getting back to me today on a build date and estimated arrival date. They're also looking around to other dealers in the area to do the swap with their red one. I told them I want mine the exact way I ordered it (black, SRT 1 opt group, sunroof, rear DVD, nav, no engine block heater). They told me if something can't happen by the end of the month (having my original one built and delivered by then), or they can't find one to swap, they'll give me back my deposit.
I looked at the paperwork I signed when I ordered the SRT8, and nowhere on there does it say if the deposit can or cannot be refunded. If I can get this black one soon, I'll go through with it. If it's going to take another 32549892 weeks then I'll have to totally reconsider everything.
shodanusmc 01-11-2007, 11:44 AM If this is how they treat you before you have the truck, I would hate to have to deal with them after you purchase it. They should give you your deposit back, no questions asked.
9900rpm 01-11-2007, 01:18 PM OK, I guess life isn't so bad after all. Just got the call from the dealer. My order went from D to D1 status in 2 days. They gave me the VIN, and told me estimated delivery date is the first week of February. I guess we'll see how accurate that is.
RESUME SPEED. Someone on this thread said you have some way to see how the truck is coming along. Is this true? Would your info be similar to what the dealer sees? If you can tell me something I don't know, I can give you the VIN.
Itchin to have this thing already....

Itchin to have this thing already.... Don't know if you can get through to him this way. Go to the '08' topic in the dicussion area and get to him through his title name 'RESUME SPEED', send him a private note. OK?

This was on an '07? Also, did they order it from the factory, meaning, does the window sticker have your name on it (This vehicle was build for YOUR NAME HERE)?
