: Scam or not?
Tcnj80 12-02-2008, 12:57 PM What's up guys, I am in the market for a gc srt8 and saw this listing and emailed the guy and he got back to me with alot of pictures of a srt that appears to be at a benz dealer. My gut tells me it's too good to be true a 2007 with 12k miles for under 20k, tell me what you think below is the email he sent me with a few pictures.
Hello ,
I am sorry for the late response. I am the seller of the 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4WD SRT-8. I have attached all the pictures that I have of this car in the next e-mail.The price can be $19700 and the shipping is included. I have moved with my work in St. Paul, MN and the car is here now. The car is in excellent condition and street legal. There is no rust dings or dents.I have clear title. When I moved here in St. Paul I used a very good shipping company called Global Delivery LTD to transport the car because I have a Dodge Ram that I am using daily and the JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE is only for the Sundays. The car is still at the shipping company here in St Paul and it is ready to be delivered to your shipping address. I have included all receipts, paperwork, owners manual along with the car.The shipping can take 3-5 labor days. The car will be delivered in an enclosed trailer and nothing wrong will happen during transportation. I will pay for the shipping and insurance because since I am already a customer the price for me will not be high.
I have many offers for this JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE and I will appreciate a quick reply and a contact phone number. The shipping company also provides escrow services meaning that after you
will receive the car they can hanlde the payment and transfer the founds to me.They will act as a middle man in our transaction.I have an contract with them and I have to follow their steps.
After you will receive the car you will have 5 days inspection period and if the car will not be OK with you the delivery costs back to me will be on my fees so I am know what I am selling and I can assure you that is a great car and you will not be disapointed.
I am looking for a fast deal because the reason that I am selling for this attractive price is that I have to pay a loan that I have on my house and I urgently need liquidity.
The shipping company's web site is www.gl-delivery.com .
Join them and register on file with them and after that e-mail me and I will contact the shipping company and start the shipping process. Please remember to provide them all the details required for the shipping process(Full name, shipping address, phone #) and e-mail me after you will be registered with them so I can contact them and start the shipping process.

LonghornSpencer 12-02-2008, 01:03 PM Surely there is a member on this site that could go check it out and get a better feel for it in person. Sounds like a scam to me though
Manny735 12-02-2008, 01:04 PM Sounds like a scam my friend.
Just the way he is talking sounds like phishing.
WBSRT 12-02-2008, 01:04 PM Hard to say, But you know the saying if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Is the sealer asking for money up front, or after delivery ? Post the link to cars.com . Lots of grammatical error's in his email, Gives me a uneasy feeling.
Vinnysrt8 12-02-2008, 01:07 PM i don;t think this one is a spam.
BlackJeepSRT 12-02-2008, 01:11 PM Scam. I'm sure a member is local enough to check it out.

The way I understood it was that I pay the shipping company and they have a hold on the funds for 5 days and if the truck is not as described i get a refund, oh yeah i tried contacting the shipping company but their phone is no longer in service. It seems like hes just trying to gather my personal information and maybe this an attempt at identity theft.

moleson10 12-02-2008, 02:38 PM Here's a easy way to check if it's a scam. This is what I always do.
1. Find out the location of the vehicle.
2. Regardless of where they say it is, tell them that you or someone you know is nearby and can come look at it right away.
If it's a scam, you'll never hear back. If they say OK, it's not a scam and you can come clean.

06blackbeast 12-02-2008, 07:32 PM If you look at the pic of it with the TBSS, notice how the jeep is a 08 and different from the other pics....
Tcnj80 12-02-2008, 07:49 PM I uploaded that by mistake, that's my friends tbss along side the 08.
CTS-Veo 12-03-2008, 08:22 AM I think anytime I hear the "Send me money, I'll ship the vehicle, if you dont want it you can have your money back" story, it's a fake. If you look at the email, it looks like he had a template of that story, and just copied in "Jeep Grand Cherkoee" everytime he mentions the vehicle... I'd say.......... FAKE!
ChrisWK 12-03-2008, 09:04 AM It looks like A scam to me it is notparked in the dealership lot around it,. What his email say is I need 20k so I can pay off my SRT so that it does not get repo. Walk away scam .
Later
jonvon 12-03-2008, 08:33 PM He musta tried racing someone from a rolling start...$20K is too much.
Tcnj80 12-04-2008, 08:44 PM Well I emailed the guy back telling him that I have a friend in his area whom I would want to check the truck over and this is the reply I received today.
The vehicle is already at the shipping company in Silver Bay , Minnesota sealed and ready for the shipping. I have a contract with eBay and we can handle this transaction
with their help.
I'm very busy with my job and I'm left out of the town so I can't meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my vehicle over the internet.
According to eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the vehicle to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here is how it will work:
1.First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name
- Full Shipping Address
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay.
3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment of 10%.
4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the vehicle to you. After you receive the vehicle you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the vehicle. If you will buy, then I will receive the payment details from eBay so that I can pick up the money.
5. If you will decide that you will not buy the vehicle, eBay will refund the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my vehicle. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you.
CTS-Veo 12-05-2008, 09:26 AM there ya go... 100% absolute SCAM! Don't give him any of that information.
TennDawg 12-09-2008, 07:20 AM I go through Ebay and Autotrader all the time looking for good deals. Unfortunately, just about every response I get is just like this one (or they're out of the country on business, or deployed in the military, etc). It's a total waste of time most of the time and I get the same response you did when I tell the seller I will fly in to do the deal in person. It's really sad that some people fall for this and give up their info. I have found a few "steals" that were legit, but they are few and far between. Always tell them you want to come see the car and do the deal in person. You'll either get no response, a response similar to what you got, or sometimes I get a nasty email back saying what a dirt-bag I am and that they can't believe I would question their honesty. It's all BS. I particularly love the ones who say they are in Utah and the car is in New York, but the pictures are from a dealership and have palm trees in the background. I mean, come on!
Lol... Damn.
Your best bet is to buy one locally or from a member here. As for me, I would never buy a car that I hadn't seen. Ideally, you want to drive the car and see it loaded up.
Hardtopvette 12-09-2008, 10:38 AM Now try and scare him by e-mailing him back saying you are a local law enforcement officer investigating a recent string of online vehicle sale scams. Tell him his IP address has been traced and verified and to expect a visit shortly ;-) Thats what I do when I get all those fake scam responses about stuff for sale on craigslist.
But yes that is a scam anytime it involves sending money and the seller is out of town and the vehicle is not available to see its pretty obvious LOL.
