: Transfer case app. with dealer
ajharman 12-01-2008, 02:41 PM Well I did it. Made an appointment with my dealer (who is awesome by the way ;)) to get my transfer case fluid changed and have the whole thing check out.
This has been an increasing problem and the shaking and shuttering has been getting worse and worse. I have 2 bottles of fluid to make sure they dont fock that up.
Any suggestions on things to do to the jeep before I take it in?
Obviously I will load the stock tune but then will I get a CEL from me headers?
They can void my warranty or deny a new TC because of headers correct?
CentralTexHemi 12-01-2008, 02:56 PM They would have to prove that your headers were the direct cause of any issue with the transfer case, them simply stating your headers caused your transfer case to have problems does not work. There is a TSB for the 2006 involving a flash to correct noises, vibrations from the transfer case I wish they would do it for the 2007
Vinnysrt8 12-01-2008, 03:04 PM i dont think they will void ur warrenty for headers.,

hot rod jeep 12-01-2008, 03:15 PM I might be wrong on this, and probably am, but can't you modify the stock tune? if so you should be able to cut off the rear o2's. So no code.

Yeah I think you can turn them off yourself, the rear O2s, with the predator.
CentralTexHemi 12-01-2008, 03:40 PM but not on the stock tune plus only a CMR tuner can turn them off completely where they do not come back on

I believe I have already been flashed for this last time I was in. I believe my transfer case is going to crap because it only vibrates when making a turn...and I mean it VIBRATES...as in SHAKES MY TRUCK haha.
Keep you guys posted
escham 12-01-2008, 10:45 PM Why buy fluid? If you have issues, they will replace the fluid free. Just remind them that it requires specific fluid. Of course, the loacal dealership acted insulted when I reminded them and was sure to point out that they replaced it with the factory specified fluid when I picked it up. Runs great now and I dont touch the T/C.

How do you get them to change it for free?? I'm having probs and they wont do it!! What do I have to do??
escham 12-02-2008, 06:09 AM My transfer case had to be replaced. New transfer case=new t/c case fluid. I'm not holding out hope that this is going to end any differently. Sounds too familiar.
ajharman 12-02-2008, 07:46 AM I just bought the fluid so they would use the right fluid. Maybe im not giving them credit. Actually was going to change it myself but it has gotten bad enough Im going to take it in now.
Do they replace the whole damn transfer case...I should give them builderbills #

Thats the same problem i was having and they said they wont replace the TC with the 315 tires on it
ajharman 12-02-2008, 08:06 AM No ****???? is this what other people have found...
CentralTexHemi 12-02-2008, 08:15 AM I'm surprised they even noticed that you were running 315-LOL. Honestly I cannot believe you accepted that reasoning. Did they lay out how the 315 rear tires caused the transfer case to go bad if not they violated warranty laws that are set in place. It is the responsibility of the service dept to explain in writing and detail their resoning for not performing any warranty work and how they came to that conclusion, simply stating it does not cut it.

The Dealer gave me a print out from chrysler announcing that the Srt jeeps need to be inspected for improper tire size and if any tires other than factory sizes then no work is to be performed on the drive train under warranty.
CentralTexHemi 12-02-2008, 08:40 AM Your kidding me thats insane I would still fight it

Woooooowwwww? That just guaranteed I'm locked to the goodyear runflats while under warranty... Good luck Tony!
escham 12-02-2008, 09:44 AM I have factory tires and factory Jeep for that matter. They looked in and found nothing, but called SRT who diagnosed the burned up case. They replaced the TC with the admonition "Do not push the button unless absolutely necessary for traction purposes.".

You could also go with the Nitto 420s. They make the same tire sizes that our stocks come in. The only down side is that they are not Run-Flats.
These are the tires I'm going with with as soon as my stockers run to s**t.

I just ordered a set of those they will be in on thurs. the disadvantage of those is that thay are not rated like ZR tires.

What conditions need to be present to qualify that statement?? More Dealer BS.....

Which dealer are you going to? What part of town are you located? A fellow Minnesotian.. :D:eek:

Someone needs to photoshop an explosion on our TC button! lol
escham 12-02-2008, 07:17 PM I think educating the buyer about T/C button should be paramount. I was never told anyting about it when I bought it. The button is earily similar to the infamous GTR "Arab Money" button.

Yes, & my point exactly. I never touched mine, & thought I should use it more until reading all the TC related issues.

I bought it from the Bemidji Chrysler Center, so thats where I have been bringing it lately because they are the closest. I live in Gonvick which is 45 min NW of Bemidji. But I have also brought it to LUNDE in Fargo, and The Jeep,Chrysler,Dodge in Brooklyn Center. But the problem with that is I'm 2.5 hrs away from Fargo and a good 4.5 hrs from the cities so I havnt been able to go back. I have an appt Fri at Bemidji Chrysler Center for 1 last time and if stuff doesnt happen the $hit is going to hit the fan!!

for the last year i have had the proxis and those were a great ride so im hoping the nitto's ride the same. My runflats only lasted me 9,000 miles and the proxis lasted me 14,000 but they still have about half tread. I am getting the nitto's to get the factory tire size back on.

cant go wrong with 420's. ;) i run those during the warmer months and trust me, they can handle the high speeds and temps, atleast mine have proven that beyond 165mph. they are pretty nice but could be a lil softer IMO. great in the elements, well rain anyhow.

could swear there is a thread on here explaining the "difference" (for lack of the proper word) between the front and rears neeeding to be within a certain percentage (3%) in order for it not to be an issue on the drivetrain (TC). could also swear i recall the 315's not being an issue if the fronts were matched to be withing that tolerance (275's?). now where the hell was that thread??? i'll post it if i find it. ;)
CentralTexHemi 12-03-2008, 09:05 AM No I agree the setup that those of use with the 315 is within the same specs as the stock tires it's just that no one has involved an attorney in their ruling
Thumpn 12-03-2008, 11:43 AM well im not going to worry about anything till spirng once the new tires are on tomarrow the SRT goes into storage for the winter and the Wrangler comes out.

I'm running stock sizes in the fronts and rears. I have the original run flats in the rear and had to swap out the fronts due extreme wear on the inside and outside corners. I went with non run flats Toyo proxies ii. I am undecided on weather to go back to all run flats or swap out the rears with the toyos. I certainly don't like how dangerous the problem with the front run flats could have been. I posted a picture of it a while back and about 28k miles on original tires.
Getting to the point. I had my transfer case noise looked at by a couple of Cox Dodge techs (not sure what they titles are) recently and one tech told me he's suprised I haven't blown the transfer case because I have Toyo proxies in the font and not the run flats. I yelled at this guy telling him he was talking ****! Can you believe this? I refuse to step foot in a place that is more interested in finger pointing than getting to the bottom of the issue.
What is the big cover up here? I think we all know it is their design problem.
