: How does the remote starter work for the 07? Theft protection?
TT C6 01-08-2007, 08:27 PM I wanted to know what EXACTLY is the process for using the remote start of the 2007 SRT-8 Jeep.
How close do you need to be?
What steps do you have to take to start it?
Do you even need the actual key?
If so what do you have to do with the key?
What's to keep someon from jumoing in the truck and taking off in it while you are waiting for it to reach the desired temperature?
Sorry if my questions seemed funny.
Thanks.

Distance will depend on intereference, but they list is as 300 feet.
On the key there is a button with a curved arrow and 2x. Press it twice and the Jeep will start.
Yes you need the key.
If the key is not in the ignition and turned on, anyone pressing the gas or brake pedal will cause the the engine to shut down.
BAD ASP 01-08-2007, 08:36 PM the truck will quit as soon as you touch the brake to shift into gear if the key is not in the ignition. the remote works from a good distance away and the doors lock upon start. the horn sounds and lights blink just before starting.
the key has four buttons on it one of which is the remote start. just pressing the button twice engages the start sequence. once the car is started you unlock the doors with the key and you have approximately 10 seconds to insert the key into the ignition and advance the key to acc.
TT C6 01-08-2007, 08:51 PM Thanks for the GREAT explanation of the operation guys.
Do you need to use the key to unlick the car once it's remotely started?
Or, can you hit another button on the fob to unlock the door when you are ready to actually enter open the door and enter the truck once it's warmed up?
SRedrockT8 01-08-2007, 08:59 PM verbatum from a separate remote start card i got in my owners papers.
"to activate remote start on the vehicle:
1. hood, liftgate, and all doors must be closed.
2. press the remote start button on the key fob twice. to indicate that the vehicle is about to start, the parking lights will flash & the horn will sound briefly.
3. the engine will run for 15 minutes with each remote start event.
4. remote start may be operated 2 times between keyed ignition cycles
to enter the vehicle:
5. press the unlock button on the key fob
6. the ignition key must be inserted into the ignition & turned to the on position within 1 minute of unlocking the vehicle or the engine will stop.
to cancel a remote start event:
7. press the remote start button on key fob once."
the owners manual says to press the "lock" button on the key fob once then within 3 seconds press the "remote start" button twice to start it but i always keep my jeep locked so i dont have to press the lock button. remote starting will not unlock the doors so you dont have to worry about people just getting in & driving away.
also according to the owners manual it works up to 300' away.
and the remote start will cancel if any of the following occur:
if the engine stalls or RPM exceeds 2500
any engine warning lamps come on
the hood is opened
the hazard switch is pressed
the transmission is moved out of P (park)
TT C6 01-08-2007, 09:22 PM THANK YOU!
WOW.
That was a lot for you to type out. :)
I am really grateful for the detailed explanation.
Hopefully, if anyone wants to understand how the remote starter works,
they will find this thread via the search funtion.
The remote start feature sounds awesome.
I'm only surprised that more cars have not been equipped with this option sooner.
The SRT-8 Jeep is becoming more and more attractive to me the more research I do. :)
Thanks again.
SRedrockT8 01-08-2007, 09:25 PM no problem, didnt take too long even with my hunt & peck typing skills. :D
MjrCarNut 01-08-2007, 11:01 PM That is a cool option, as that makes me want to get and 07 model now instead of an 06,, Maybe if i get an 06 somehow i can add this to it as well..
Nice post!
OurZoo 01-09-2007, 08:25 AM Also, if you open the drivers door and don't insert the key within 60 seconds the vehicle will shut down on its own too. Probably the feature I like the least. I wish you could program that to be longer by at least a minute.
Ink Pump 01-09-2007, 09:43 AM I have to say this is the best unwanted option I've ever had. It came with the 07 but I now use it every time. My office is 150 ft from my parking space. There are walls and other structures in the way but I can press the buttom from my desk and it starts. Today its 30 degrees and snowing and the SRT is warm and ready to go when I leave. The coolest thing is to do it when people are around it. I'll never have another vehicle without this feature. Hold on it lunchtime I need to press the button right now:D
One thing to watch for! If you accidentally press the wrong button you go out to find the rear window open. I've done it:eek:
OurZoo 01-09-2007, 01:32 PM Did that once myself, lol.
mike123 01-09-2007, 02:34 PM Not only that but the doors need to be locked to remote start also
phenwick 01-09-2007, 02:51 PM Not only that but the doors need to be locked to remote start also
Mine will start, but only run for a minute with the doors unlocked. Had me worried that something was wrong until I reread the manual.
dbrisson 01-09-2007, 07:33 PM Love the remote start, and the ability to unlock from the fob to get back in. I didnt think I would use this option but it is nice.

Thats pretty funny,, start it when people are checking it out,, give them a little startle!!:D .. Look Ma nobody in the dang car!!
Mrdredd 01-11-2007, 10:55 AM Not only that but the doors need to be locked to remote start also
the doors automatically lock when remote starting ...
OurZoo 01-11-2007, 12:31 PM Yeppers, it will absolutely start withit unlocked and then lock the doors as a security measure in case you were a dumbazz and never locked in the first place. It won't turn off if unlocked, it'll turn off if the drivers door is unlocked, upened and the key isn't put in within 60 seconds.
RGC_SRT8 01-14-2007, 04:07 PM guyz, how can i put this option on my car a '06 gc srt , or it does not fit??

Any good stereo shop should be able to add a remote starter for you.
Mango 01-14-2007, 06:10 PM I love the remote start! I just picked up an 07 VW GTI and I wish it had Remote Start. I hope VW comes out with this option because I use it every day on my SRT8's.

Or you can get it as a MOPAR accessory and have the dealer install it, or install it yourself if you have the ability.
It functions pretty much the same as factory, except it has its own key FOB.
