: Winning's not everything.
HulkSmash 01-07-2007, 10:59 PM Yesterday I was driving my GC on Interstate 5 here in California when a hopped up Honda Civic pulled up on my drivers side. This thing had to have at least 75 auto part stickers on it, along with the manditory oversized spoiler, body kit and muffler. I was doing a solid 65 mph, but this guy really wanted to have a go at it. At first he paced me exactly, and then his buddy in the passenger's seat started with the hand gestures. Finally I couldn't take it any more and lowered my window. His passenger did the same. I yelled over that I would give "that slow ass piece of **** 10 car lengths". Needless to say, he took off like a bat out of hell. Unfortunately for him, I knew something that he apparently didn't... there was a California Highway Patrol cruiser riding next to me on my right.
The trooper was just getting out of his car when I passed by. I made sure to wave. Oddly, my friends in the Civic didn't wave back. I wonder why? :D
OurZoo 01-07-2007, 11:06 PM That's funny man! You won and didn't even have to waste any gas.

I think it was a sh!tty thing to do to someone. So what if he was driving a Civic? So what if he had stickers on his car? He was a car enthusiast just like you, just because his car wasn't as nice as yours doesn't mean he deserved to be kicked in the balls. Maybe someday the tables will be turned...

Or maybe the Civic driver should have paid more attention. I'm sure he could have seen the cop as he approached the GC if he would have only looked. It's not our responsibility to look out for the idiots.

how so?
he had no obligation to tell what sounds like the typical ricer who would've probably done the typical ricer flyby at 110mph into traffic that there was a cop near him.
why should he have taken his eyes and attention off of the road and focus on alerting some punk ricer that if he does the stupid thing he's going to do he's going to get nabbed?

Uhh, he took "his eyes and attention off the road" when he invited the other driver to race.

"i would give that slow ass piece of **** 10 car lengths" hardly sounds like "lets go, you honk three times and we run"

What's it sound like then, was he just asking him to go have a cup of coffee or something?

I'm sorry, did you miss the part about the hand gestures? He wasn't blowing me kisses!
ResumeSpeed 01-08-2007, 02:36 AM I'm sorry, did you miss the part about the hand gestures? He wasn't blowing me kisses!
You didn't say the passenger was giving you the finger, I assumed, the way your post was written, that by "hand gestures" he was waving his hand as to say "let's race". I guess I am used to seeing it described as "flipping me off" or something more descriptive, being that "hand gestures" could refer to a ton of different types of "gestures".
IF they were flipping you off as you say, then that would certainly turn my opinion around 180 degress.
HulkSmash 01-08-2007, 03:29 AM IF they were flipping you off as you say, then that would certainly turn my opinion around 180 degress.
Since your opinion is sooooo important to me, allow me to clarify.
These were two 17 or 18 year old kids who were driving recklessly and abusing the power of their vehicle and acting like jerks. I had assumed that the term "hand gestures" was descriptive enough, but since it wasn't, yes the passenger was "flipping me off", among other things.
On another note, I don't know where you live, but here in southern California teenagers with rice rockets have become a real hazard. The combination of clear, dry weather and an unending supply of performance parts make public, street racing a daily occurrence. Not a day goes by that I don't get passed on the highway at least a dozen times by various teenage Speed Racer and Racer X clones weaving in and out of traffic at triple digit speeds. If my little trick got this guy to rethink his behavior even a little bit than I have no regrets.
...besides, it made me feel better, and that's the most important thing.
Mango 01-08-2007, 05:12 AM I think you did the right thing.

After hearing all of the facts, I fully understand, I would have probably done the same thing if a similar situation arose.
maf1960 01-08-2007, 09:25 AM Yeah -- I expierience the same situation with the rice rockets here in lower NY. The teenagers have $15K cars with an equal amount under the hood and think that they are all "too fast too furious junkies". I believe that they are not entusiasts as we are and I am not just saying that 'cause of their age (I have a teenage son who loves speed) or type of 'race' car, it is their general attitude towards our sport/hobby which gives us a bad name especially with the police. When they cant beat you the spend the rest of the road cutting other innocent motorists off in a fit of rage and sarcasim. For two punks to fly the bird at one of us unprovoked, I say kudos to getting them shafted!
Kudos to you my man. I would have done the same thing, even if the hand gestures WERE 'let's race' and not the bird. I'm not very tolerant of street racing..... sorry, I'm a prude.
danman_s 01-08-2007, 11:14 AM Sticking it to the Ricer
Love it man, I would have done the same thing! Actually, I tried to one time!
I was driving home late from a hockey game and the roads in calgary were pretty icey/slushy. Some dumbasses in a Cobra Rustang kept trying to get me to race; they'd pull up alongside, punch it, slide around abit, then slow down and wait for me. I sure as hell wasn't going to race considering I was having severe traction problems; they must have been retards to think it was a good idea.
Anyhow, we're getting close to an intersection (North bound on Barlow and 36th ave NE for your Calgary SRT owners) when the light turns red. Our direction has 3 lanes and the Cobra quickly pulled into the left most lane with me in the centre lane. As I pulled up the passenger rolled down the window and they started reving the engine. Then I saw a cop car pulling up to the intersection beside me in the left lane. I grinned and gave the guys in the mustang the thumbs up and burped the gas abit as the cop slowed to a stop. They could't see the cop as I was blocking their view. The light went green and the Mustang owner quickly stomped on the pedal, slipped around abit and then lurched into the intersection once they got traction...
But at that point the cop car was already pulling past me since I was sitting still. They quickly saw the cop and crushed the brakes. The police officer eyed them up and drove off. I was pretty disappointed .
Someone had to teach those idiots a lesson. They didn't get the hint and followed me for awhile more trying to get me to race.
HoustonSRT-8 01-08-2007, 11:44 AM It's one thing to get into an impromptu street race. It's another thing to have some idiot goad you for miles.
little leo 01-08-2007, 06:56 PM i have to say rusm, i dont talk about anybody, but do you or are you a ricer also, why would you stick up for kids like that. imo most of the so called kids that have cars like that, do drive with the intent of no feelings for any other driver on the road, its like they make it a sport to see how many people they can cut off, see to me its how fast your car is, not how crazy you can be to cut people off to get infront of someone. the fact that you miss read, and thats what you did, everyone one else in this room knew what he was talking about with the hand gester. is crazy. I really hate, and i know this makes me sound bad, but i cant stand ricers. I dont understand how most of them dont even have fast cars, but put those huge tailpipes on, is it me, do they really hear what the car sounds like, its like you took a moped and just put a bullhorn next to it. they think the hondas are the worlds best cars. with there ooo i know when the v-tech kicks in. please, and its not like our trucks are the best, or fastest, sorry i just really hate ricers and rusm, you really got on my nerves with your post, why dont you just join a civic chat room and trade in your srt8 you dont deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Lord.
Ok, one more time. This is what REALLY happened...
Yesterday I was driving my GC when a hopped up Honda Civic pulled up on my driver’s side. I could tell that this guy really wanted to have a go at it. So I suggested we head on over to our local race track, where I confirmed that he was in fact legally old enough to race. We raced. I beat him. The end.

Untouchable 01-09-2007, 08:07 PM if you were a cop that would be called entrapment and they would get away. But since you're not, sh!t I'd do the same thing.
FastJeepSRT8 01-09-2007, 11:18 PM In light of the warm fuzzy this thread has taken I'll share a pretty cool kill story with a happy ending. My second encounter with a Stang was about three weeks or so after I had my SRT. I had my wife and daughter with me so I wasn't really looking to race anyone. I caught the attention of an '05 Stang in traffic so there wasn't much room to do anything so we kept it cool hoping we'd catch a light. We got close at one light behind one car each. When the light changed the stang droped the clutch a bit giving me a chirp and a nice sample of his exhaust which I thought was pretty cool. Unfortunately the cop that was lurking behind us didn't think so. I just caught him in my rearview mirror as he jumped into my lane several cars behind me. I played it cool downplaying the whole thing trying not to provoke the stang at all since he seemed pretty cool. The cop finaly ended up right on my tail so I just kept cruising. The stang was now several cars ahead of me and probably had no idea this cop was behind me. This cop was so close to me I could see the ticked off expression on his face so I got over and let him pass. As we all approached the next light I watched the cop cut between two cars to get in the right turn lane. The stang caught the light up front in the right lane and this cop was behind him next to traffic in the turn lane completely out of sight. I quickly lined up next to him and gave him the thumbs down and the finger accross the throat gesture. He looked puzzled but got the picture. This was a fairly long light so eventually the cop pulled up next to this guy and then turned. The look of relief on this guy's face was priceless. We dogged it to the next light where we finally got the chance to race. I kicked his butt bad giving him a great view of the Spongebob DVD my daughter was watching! :D When we got to the next light he put his window down and said "Dude that thing is awesome!". He thanked me for the tip and I asked if he wanted me to beat him again. He just smiled and shook his head. Now if this guy had been the typical "Stang Boy" we have around here the outcome would've been a lot different. I actually posted this kill in another thread but without all the details of the cop. I thought it was appropriate here though. Hope nobody minds the long post. As far as the rice boy story that started this thread I think they got what they deserved. It's one thing to have a couple street light duels but watching these idiots zip in and out of traffic at 100mph like it's the Indy 500 really ticks me off. 'Nough said ;)
little leo 01-10-2007, 12:12 PM just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. ihad a argument with some guys in a chat room well they argued, i just laughed, put it this way his screen name wasw vtechcivic4u lol.. anyway hes tryhing to say that no way any srt8jeep can ever hit high 12s in a qauarter even with all the mods you want, plus he said its no way faster 0-60 then a stock mustang gt, and it is the slowest of all the srt8, and he has a ricer, this is why i just shake my head. lol
