is it best to pull it out or drive it to the tire place like this?

Pull it! It is a danger to others to leave it in.

If its a short drive you might leave it in. Looks like you've driven some on it already. If you pull it, you may lose the air and have to deal with that. I've never driven on run flats and wouldn't want to unless absolutely necessary. Hopefully when you get to the tire shop and they pull it, it will be a short screw just in the tread and no patch needed.

That is why our vehicles have run-flats, so the tires are able to travel short distances with little to no air. Obviously Limy will not be driving with a performance mindset, so I see no repercussions if the fastener is removed. However, driving with the fastener is extremely dangerous, to Limy, and especially to others sharing the road.

Limy: 50 miles @ 50 mph.

pulled it.
1/4" x 1 3/4" bolt, all the way in.
I now have no air in my tire and will be testing the run flat technology on the way to Allens tire in the morning.

If it was mine, I'd drive it down as is. It's not like I told him to go out and run with a pair of scissors.
If he hadn't noticed it, he may have driven it for two weeks anyway.

Everyone needs a Tire Plug kit for just these situations. You could pull the bolt out, plug the tire & air it up. Then you'd be good to go until it was convenient to get to the tire store for a proper patch.

Not trying to start an argument, but I think you underestimate the seriousness of this situation. If that screw came loose, the situation could turn deadly.

Ignorance does not justify poor behavior.

Phenwick, even though i completely disagree with your mentality, I can empathize with it - if he drove at extremely slow speeds, he may be ok. i just take this situation seriously because I have seen first-hand what can happen. Cheers.

Is Allens a Goodyear EMT dealer? The hole may be too large to safely patch, if that's the case you'll get a brand new tire at no charge.

I understand your concern. But the most that would probably happen is the screw head would polish down to nothing.

I was taking the position that I would not want to drive it in the run flat condition if it could at least be avoided. I guess I would then always wonder if the tires integrity was compromised in some way, endangering me or you at a later time. I wouldn't be suprised if the manufacture recommended replacing a tire that had run flat. Just speculating on this however.

Black, I understand where you are coming from.
If it had been precariously lodged in it could have caused someone some damage.
As it happens I had to take a ratchet set to it to get it out, it was well and truly stuck.
Anyway, it's out now.
Yes Allens is certified, they ordered and replaced all 4 tires for me recently under the recall, I can only hope now that it is too big to repair, but then he will probably have to order one from Memphis again and I will be **** out of luck for a few days at least.
