Hey guys,
Since it is clear that Mobil 1 is changing their base stock
oil formulations to group III rather than the true synthetic
group IV or V I am looking for alternative engine oils to
use.
I am looking at many European brands such as:
Fuchs
Castrol Edge
Elf
Lubro Moly
Motul
What have you folks used and with what results?
Any used oil analysis taken?
Thanks,
Craig

AMS Oil XL - 10x40W. I have not dumped it yet - probally in another 500 miles. I got it for $4.50 each qt, per case of 12 - dealer cost from a relative. So far, no complaints. I believe that we take 7 qts - 6 in engine and 1 for the filter.

What oil pressures are you seeing with the 10W-40?

I do not want to guess, I'll let you know tomorrow - I am doing a regular parkway run and will make a note of it. FYI - it is not the usual weather (winter)pattern by me as it should be that is why I am sticking with this weight for another week or two.

I always ran Mobil 1 in my S4, and then the Porsche/Audi dealer started to recommend ELF.
Haven't done an oil change in my GC SRT8, so I haven't decided what to use.

I am using AMSOIL 10w 40.
I just put it in.
I would need to check the oil pressure but I remember it around 63 psi at around 75-80 mph. Can't remember what it is at idle.
I have used AMSOIL in my race car for many years and have seen a big advantage over Mobil 1.
Race engine runs cooler.
Oil last much longer.
I have noticed that my GC SRT8 is running around 210 to 225 now where it used to run over 230 all the time (after warmed up)
I did install the 180 degree thermostat from GS Motorsport with the ESP mod and Fan mod but never really turn the fan on (fan just runs in stock mode).
By the way, I live in So Cal (it doesn't get very cold).

I will be using Redline Full Synthetic 10-40. I have been using Redline oils in other vehicles as well. The 5-20 works perfect for the 5.7L with MDS in my 300C with no issues.
I have a full case of it, ready to go, for the next change.

Highway crusing at about 70mph - 47 degree and rainy. I have the AmsOil in for about 1200 miles thus far. The PSI = 45 with a temperature of 219F.

Were did you hear this? Did they already change to group III
I may switch to RP or RedLine.

Mobil did not announce this but folks on BITOG (bobistheoilguy.com)
have noticed that the cold pour point temp went from -60ies
to - 50ies and that this indicated that the oil's base stock was now
Group III or had a lot of Group III in it.
Many oil nuts who watch this have seen this happening to other
Mobil 1 products as well. Not that this stuff isn't a decent oil.
