: power steering pump again!!!!!!!!
trailblazer ssss 11-25-2008, 07:43 AM Iam taking the jeep to the shop next week, for the power steering pump again. They have replaced the pump once already.Has anyone ese had any problems with there's huming and whining real loud when you come to a complete stop at a red light or just idleing in a parking lot.I have no problems driving u can notice just the loud hum and whine when its idleing. This whining noise is more aggrivating then the brake squeling.
SRT8 4 J 11-25-2008, 07:48 AM No problems here-have just over 16K on her. Hope you can solve your issue.
Vinnysrt8 11-25-2008, 08:09 AM i have no problem with 8000 miles i hope u could get it fixed.
Mike_Levy 11-25-2008, 08:56 AM I have the whining when turning the wheels at low speeds. Dealer said its normal for these vehicles.
Razorecko 11-25-2008, 08:58 AM Did they put in a brand new pump or was it "renewed" ? - also what about the fluid ? did they put new fluid in ?
trailblazer ssss 11-25-2008, 09:41 AM Well they service manager told me that they did use a new pump and new fluid. He continued to tell me that it just could be a bad batch of pumps..? i dont know about that.but i have 49k miles on her now and bought her with 25 and it has been doing this since i bought it. Been replaced once already. Could it be a bad batch of pumps? And I just paid the extended warrany deductible of 100 dollars. Hope they dont expect me to pay that again when it wasn't fixed right to begin with.
trailblazer ssss 11-25-2008, 09:44 AM I hope this time they fix it right.I even thought what if they just took the pump off cleaned it up checked it and just put it back on that would explain why it still hums and whines.
SRT Great 11-25-2008, 10:39 AM 40K and no power steering problems yet.....knock on wood.

Sounds like what they did. Thats why in these situations you ALWAYS ASK FOR THE OLD PART BACK. Thats what i always do, i'd just tell them to throw the old pump back in the new box and throw it in the jeep. Thats the only way you know they put a good one in. Not only that sometimes you'll replace a part that is still good and im sure the mechanics take it and try to resell it privately.
trailblazer ssss 11-25-2008, 12:52 PM my dad knows the service manager guy and my dad said he asked for it they told him they had to have it for the warranty company.i call BS
Vinnysrt8 11-25-2008, 12:55 PM i dont think they changed the whole pump the cleaned it and change the oil.

Thats actually true. Alot of the time they want the old part back to make sure they aren't being billed for something that wasn't done. There also could have been a core charge on it.
trailblazer ssss 11-25-2008, 01:03 PM i dont think they replaced it either. Matter of fact i read a post earlier from a couple months ago maybe a month and a half a guy was having his replaced because his went out are was leaking. Well the same time, that was going on mine was in the shop also. The post i was reading stated they had to order the pump from a dealership in san francisco. My dealership told me that also. I'am thinking that that guy got the pump be for i did and they just cleaned mine up and said its new because i didnt hear from them for about a week after they told me that. But i have found a solution to knowing if they change it this time iam goin to put a distintive mark on it sumwheres u cant see with out looking and goin to take a oicture of it with date on the picture.

veyronSRT8@TTCreations 11-25-2008, 03:31 PM no power steering issues at this time, however the Jeep is currently having it's rack and pinion replaced...:(
hot rod jeep 11-25-2008, 03:41 PM Just out of curiosity what does the fluid look like? Is it red like trans fluid? If it is they put the wrong fluid in it. It is supposed to be clear hydraulic fluid.
trailblazer ssss 11-25-2008, 07:15 PM Now that i think bout it i dont remember the fluid ever being clear since ive had it.its always been blk.and after they ''changed'' it i think it was red r sum other color it wasnt clear thats for sure do u know a part number or any other info on that clear fluid
I get a whirring/whining kind of sound when turning the steering wheel at low speeds. They tried lubing the steering shaft bit it didn't help :(

trailblazer ssss 11-26-2008, 10:19 AM this pisses me off. i called another dealership to see how much the fluid was, give the part number and the guy says o you have a srt8 which model, i said how do u know that, he says that fluid is only used in srt's, i said o i have a jeep.and the fluid is 14.50 a qt. he then tells me that two dealerships have it in my area he said his fluids been sittn on the shelf for bout a year.i call the other place theres has been there for two years guy says they dont move that kind of fluid.that leads me to believe my dealership just put regular **** in it.i call my dealerships parts counter give him part number guy says o we dont stock that never will unless u buy 6 qts. i said ok thanks bye. so there it is i now know why iam having problems.thanks for all yalls help
hot rod jeep 11-27-2008, 07:50 AM let us know what you find out. The dealership I went to wanted to do a plush, came real close to doing it. Glad I checked (asked) here first. The tech showed the trans fluid next to the clear fluid on his glove.
HoustonSRT-8 11-27-2008, 09:28 PM I have the same thing, except everytime I took it to the dealer, it never made the sound. Damn thing comes and goes.
