: Rode along in a TBSS test drive yesterday
SI_G35Coupe 01-05-2007, 11:43 AM my best friend is really interested in getting a TBSS. i tried to sway him to the Jeep but he doesn't wanna spend the extra money and he's not really a speed freak anyways, just wants something with alittle kick
i rode along with him in the passenger seat and we put the salesman in the backseat. we didn't think they were going to allow a test drive (since Jeep flat our refused to let us drive an SRT8). the salesman said "i wouldn't expect you to pay for a vehicle you never drove... you can test drive anything we sell except the Z06" lol
i gotta be honest, i think it rode pretty nice. over the rough roads of Old Bridge NJ it soaked up the bumps and potholes pretty well, but still made an emergency lane change at 50-60mph with no drama whatsoever (somebody cut my friend off during the test drive).
all in all, i think the TBSS is a solid choice for people who are looking for a truck that hustles but isn't too harsh riding for everyday driving. my only gripe was the interior, which is very outdated and plasticy looking.
i think my buddy is sold on the TBSS.... i'm still going to get an SRT8. since he's not the modding type, i'll still have the fastest truck on the block (literally... he lives across the street from me lol)
SI_G35Coupe 01-05-2007, 11:48 AM btw if anybody in NYC is looking for an SRT8,
Bay Ridge Jeep in Brooklyn is showing 8 of them in inventory....
4 silver, 3 black, and 1 red
StageFright 01-05-2007, 11:52 AM The TBSS definitely has a little more utility than the Jeep (It can tow up to 6700 lbs.), and with that Corvette based LS2 powerplant it will be a winner in the aftermarket modifications department.
I like the overall look of the Jeep better.
SI_G35Coupe 01-05-2007, 12:43 PM my buddy is not a modder... except for stereo, etc he doesn't touch em. so my SRT8 when i get it will still get the better of him. the Jeep is 10x nicer inside too
kman999 01-05-2007, 01:05 PM wow, the interior must be really bad if you say its 10X better than our already platicy cabin. I'm still pissed at what the Euro spec SRT8 got!!

Its just the design execution of the TB interior, that modular looking crap that you would find in previous Pontiacs. Looks like a toy with snap together parts.
The SRT-8 while certainly has its share of plastic, is more up to date (obviously its an 05 intro vehicle) and has a more finished appearance.
kramsay1234 01-05-2007, 02:39 PM kman,
There is a thread going around where the euro's are looking at the interior leather upgrades they have that we can buy. Current thread says $1,850 to upgrade your pieces if you really want less plastic.
As for this thread, the Jeep syling outside is in a different league than the TBSS. I am sure it is a decent vehicle, but it won't scare other drivers off the road like the Jeep.

little leo 01-05-2007, 03:18 PM you can get the tbss for cost pritty much, for ****s and giggles i test drove one by my house, was going to get my wife it. (i have the srt8 jeep) it drives alot smoother then ours, but thats it, it really is a dog. handling is not even close to ours, and there is a huge hesitation in the throtl. from a stop, and yes the inter. is horrible, but i do think, cause i test drove a 06 when it first came out and this one was a 07 the seats are part sued like ours. but like i said the dealers know it wont compare to the jeeps and they are giving them away, you can get 0% finace on them too, i had the 07 loaded with everyting even dvd in rear and they were willing to give it to me for 200 over cost, not msrp, cost, i even saw there paper work. but its not worth it. so I just got my wife a srt8 lilke me, just diffrnt color and of corse hers is a 07 and mine is a 06. but yes they will spank us in the mod department, cause that eng has been around a while, and for some reason mopar takes forever to come out with anything. unless you have a neon. lol
shodanusmc 01-05-2007, 03:43 PM <<my only gripe was the interior, which is very outdated and plasticy looking>>
Question......are you describing the TBSS or the Jeep SRT?
little leo 01-05-2007, 05:05 PM i was talking about the blazer, it is nice on the outside but in no way can it compare with our jeeps, in both looks and proformance. but it is bigger on the inside, but yes, you can get the tbss for if you talk to the dealer, 200 over dealer cost, they are giving them away. I know this, because thats what they were giving it to me for. but i got my wife another srt8 like mine
MjrCarNut 01-05-2007, 05:32 PM I couldnt aggree more on the thoughts of the tbss,, I originally wanted an SS but after I sat in a used for sale Jeep SRT8 i just grinned from ear to ear with the power.. and its not only the power, Yea there is still plastic but they manufacture the plastic much better roll the ends and whatever,, they do it just looks much better, and as ive said in the past the srt8 has much more in little things (features) that the SS does not have.
I just wish the SRT8 had better towing and seat back warmers.. All in all when Mopar comes out with more Mods. the SS cant even hold a candle to it, In my own opinion..
SI_G35Coupe 01-06-2007, 01:35 AM Or you could buy mine and save almost $7k and im modded.
are you currently accepting trade ins lol? i'm looking to trade my 2k4 INfiniti in for the Jeep. i also kinda want an 07 for the backup cam option (have 2 cars in the household with them, and for an SUV i like it)

The Euro leather upgrade is not all that impressive, the peices look "added on" rather than "factory" (pics http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_srt8_export.htm ). Jeep sourced the pieces via Startech and was planning to do something similar for '07 models but scrapped the idea at the last minute. '08 will have some interior upgrades but don't know if they will fit as there may be some changes.

Thats not an SS chief
barho 12-05-2007, 01:05 PM Thats not an SS chief
Hey "chief"....this thread is nearly a year old
Beat it!
Typical troll searching forums that talk smack about his vehicle, then joins said forums to defend his ride. How long did it take you to hunt down that thread detective?

i have barly been on this forum and already i can tell you like to run your mouth. i was just saying thats not an SS. im not trying to start $hit i like both srts and SS's i just cant afford both.
Matt McKenzie 12-05-2007, 01:49 PM Hey 07TBSS...you ran yours first by calling SI chief...there are usually three people you call chief....a Chief Warrant Officer in the Military, a Police/Fire Chief or a little kid, so it is kind of a condescending remark.

Would you mind posting a pic of the SS interior? I haven't seen it and would like to know what differences there are.
07TBSS 12-05-2007, 02:28 PM im at work and dont have time. google it.
Blown-WK 12-05-2007, 02:56 PM I'm still pissed at what the Euro spec SRT8 got!!
Oh you mean the skinny wheels:D

If the Jeep is 10 times nicer than the Chevy inside, the Chevy must look our old 53 Ford!
The Jeep is all plastic....are you saying the Chevy has plastic seats?

Or just a regular ol Chief in the Navy/Coast Guard :)
SI_G35Coupe 12-07-2007, 01:19 PM holy thread revival batman. the TBSS guy is correct, that is NOT a SS interior.
with the exception of some ultrasuede running down the middle of the seat, some fake metal on the shifter, and the "SS" on the steering wheel, the TBSS interior looks identical to the pic i posted
i happen to think that the interior on the TBSS is very dated looking. the TB has been on the road a few years longer than the WK Grand Cherokees, and as far as i know there have not been any mid-life interior design updates
that being said, i think the TBSS gives you alot for the amount of money it costs (a couple grand less than an SRT8). for somebody like my friend who isn't a gearhead but just wanted a truck that goes, stops, and turns better than most SUVs and still pull a trailer, it's a great choice
SI_G35Coupe 12-07-2007, 01:21 PM Trailblazer SS interior...

SI_G35Coupe 12-07-2007, 01:26 PM and i should probably put a disclaimer on this thread.... i DID NOT end up getting an SRT8 Jeep after all.
after lusting after the SRT8 for months, i decided it wasn't worth the extra cost to me and i ended up getting an Overland for about $7k less than the SRT would have been...
and i LOVE the interior on my truck.... see pics (the pics suck i know, i took them for another thread on the WeatherTech floor liners... last one is from Jeep website)

sy1616 12-07-2007, 02:08 PM tbss is CRAP! GM is CRAP
Nabbs 12-08-2007, 10:41 AM The TBSS is most likely not going to be picked up after 09. It is unfortunate that GM did not upgrade the TBs interior in 08 like it did with the rest of the line -- thus indicating it's demise.
I wouldn't say that the SRT8 or any other Chrysler product has an excellent interior. However, you don't buy an SRT8 because it has nice interior trim. Here's a breakdown on the crappy things with my interior:
1- Waaay to much plastic
2- I cannot get to the seat adjust buttons without opening my door
3- Why isn't there a voice command button on the steering wheel (maybe there is)?
4- I would prefer digital displays for the HVAC controls, not knobs.
I drove an 07 SRT8 and absolutley hated it. I was set to take delivery of an 08 MDX, but the car was damaged in transit, so we drove an 08 SRT8. The day I drove the SRT8 I paid cash in full and left with Jeep.
Don't think my whining is a complaint about this truck. I absolutely love it! This is by far my favorite beater/daily driver I have owned to date! It's a blast to drive, comfortable, and has fairly cool gadgets and trinkets (I love the MyGig).
I never even bothered looking at SS' since their interiors are just dated.

Nabbs 12-08-2007, 10:44 AM tbss is CRAP! GM is CRAP
GM's hybrid full-size truck line is going to revolutionize the entire auto industry -- I call that progress and ingenuity.
Granted there are very few American products I would own (anything I can rent at Hertz or Dollar I am not interested in owning), but GM is really far ahead then the other big two.
I love my C6 Z, and can't think of anything I would replace it with (perhaps a Ford GT).

SI_G35Coupe 12-08-2007, 11:43 AM 3- Why isn't there a voice command button on the steering wheel (maybe there is)?
slightly off topic, but this was the dumbest thing i've seen on my interior.
make the navi/bluetooth completely controllable by voice, but then you need to hit the 2 buttons furthest away from the driver on the center console to activate them. voice command and bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel would have been FAR more helpful than than the EVIC buttons
