: Another round of dealer BS...
Juggernaught 01-04-2007, 12:52 PM I just called my Jeep dealer to schedule an appointment to apply the TSB flash for the TCM. The stupid service writer refused to apply the TSB "unless there was a specific complaint for the problem". I said "The TSB fixes the way the transmission shifts in manual mode, that's my complaint". He said that unless the tech decided to apply the TSB to fix this issue, there would be a charge to apply the TSB, because "it's not warranty work". I told him I would have it worked on someplace else and hung up the phone on him. Anyone else heard of such BS before?
Does anyone else have any suggestions for a good Jeep service department in the Richmond VA area?
NateO 01-04-2007, 01:17 PM Is this a five-star dealer?!
Yes, it is warranty work. I would give them a lesson in the fine art of reading:
http://wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_2102006.pdf
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
TIME ALLOWANCE:
Labor Operation No: 18-19-05-14
Description: Reprogram Transmission Control Module (B)
Amount: 0.4 Hrs
And make sure they note the .4 hour time allowance versus 24 hours!
Cripes, how hard is this for these guys? They only have run a program for 1/2 hour!

I had two dealers in Ohio who I will not mention pull the same crap on me. I told them about the TSB and they asked well is there a problem with the vehicle?.. Because we can only fix it if there is a problem... Well anyways I found a dealer who didn't give me any b.s. and got that done and some extra things that I didn't even know needed to be fixxed. So I was happy. Buyer Beware as I always say!!!
jlandbl 01-04-2007, 02:11 PM I've had some tough experiences at my dealer recently. So I sent an email to the owner of the dealer to express my concern. This worked like a charm. I just got off the phone with the Service Director who is going to personally meet and greet me on the 15th to load the TSB. He looked up the TSB while on the phone and confirmed it would not be a problem. Good thing I escalated this. It turns out the same owner (and Service Director) owns the other closest Jeep dealer that I was going to switch to for service. Small world I guess. Anyway, go right to the owners of your dealers if you have a problem. A smart owner does not want to loose a customer.

Mabosc, on the contrary DO MENTION the dealers names! I'm sure there are people that need to know.
Tsrt8 01-04-2007, 04:31 PM Anyone know of a good dealer in the chicagoland area that has had this tsb done? I just got off the phone w/ the service manager at Fields Jeep, and after explaining to him the problem I'm having with the shift hesitation, and I would like to have the autostick updated, he tells me they would not do any work unless I recieved a notice in the mail to have this service done, and they can duplicate the problem themselves. I said "so you're telling me you'll have to redline my jeep in autostick to see it doesn't upshift, then you can perform the tsb". He says "thats right"...wtf? That doesn't fly with me, so if anyone knows a dealer in chicago that has done this tsb without this reproducing the problem BS I would really appreciate the Info.
thanx.

WTF is right! Why would you let them do that? 'Yeah, here, go bounce this fairly new SUV off the rev limiter for a day or so...'
Did you buy your Jeep there? If you did, that's really insane.
They're not going to spend 1/2 hour on this warranty-covered flash to keep your ongoing business, whether it's a new vehicle or service? Glad these people don't work for me, because the common sense is not strong in this one!
SRT Great 01-04-2007, 07:48 PM I'm bringing mine in for a tranny leak and some other stuff and will ask for the TSB. My angle is I'm gonna come back from the grave and kick their ass and have my family sue the bejesus out of them if I die because I auto-stick down shift to pass someone on a two lane road, in a situation which gives me small room for error, and forget to upshift...which limits my passing speed at redline...and ultimately ends up in a sh&^ storm of twisted metal. How does my mind work so graphically.....personal experience.....because I first found out about auto-stick not upshifting in a like situation, minus the twisted metal, and I had a tiny bit more room for error. I downshifted, hit WOT and popped out into the other lane and was doing good until redline. I was next to the car I was passing with traffic heading at me and I wasn't going anywhere. Needless to say my a-hole was puckered for that split second until I figured out what happened. What also added to my incompetence was this is my first auto-stick vehicle and when the GC hits redline, its actually pretty tame....hitting redline in my '98 Formula was a well defined event, the GC just seems to die.

No, the sales associate was offended I wasn't going to pay list, so I went to the next county to get EP. It's on the way to work so it would be convenient for service, but after talking to this guy, he made it clear my business is not important to them. My buddy bought his 5.7 there, and had some problems with his transfer case, when he brought it in for service he said he talked to the same service manager and said this guy had his panties in a bunch because people were bringing in tsb's they got off the internet. I guess he doesn't like sites like these getting in the way of is power trips.

HoustonSRT-8 01-04-2007, 08:56 PM I just told them it wouldn't downshift at 25mph and, after having it overnight, the just applied the TSB. IMO, a 24hr turn around is not that bad because my car isn't the only one there.
