I thought this was interesting. I think the ML63 is an awesome vehicle. Most of the mbworld folks are car enthusiasts. But one guy in Southern Cal wants to prove his ML63 (which is all good). Do we have any takers?

Hmmmm, that video is hard to tell anything....

I'm positive that the srt8 would kill the ml63 off the line like it did. The end part makes sense that the ml caught up, but cant tell whether or not the jeep was letting off.

The stats for the ML63 were posted somewhere. If I remember right they were: 0-60 ~5.3, 1/4m ~13.8.
The ML63 must be higher geared, maybe a 6/7 spd trans? It would apear that after 120/130 it may have an advantage, but on the street the SRT8 shines & for a lot less $. MB does make some sweet rides though. They are somewhat our relatives.

i just read some of that thread.... some of those ppl r really dramatic though. and yeah for a 7 speed it should do better in higher speeds but who cares! i never seem to be passing 100mph here in so cal!(well maybe sometimes)

haha ill put up videos all day of me stock whooping a ml63 til 120 mph. i bet i would do better through the corners to. if it doesnt snow this weekend then ill put up more videos from a stop and racing up a sweet canyon with tons of twists and turns.

and once you have a couple of thousand miles on it ,it will perform better.

B.T.W. don't get cought up in this and risk ur health and the other drivers in the canyons. (but if you do be careful)

Is your SRT8 an '06 or '07? What happens at higher speeds near 150+ does the SRT8 pull even/ just trail even or just lose? I've read post that power braking isn't beneficial?
I'm in no way condoning wreckless driving/speeding, cause that's bad. ;)

I've heard that it will only get faster also. it has 800 miles now. im wont get caught up in this. me and my buddies do this stuff anyways. we are careful, hense why we do these late at night and in good weather. if its not in the right conditions we wont do it.

mine is an '07 with 800 miles and no mods yet exept for clearbra. once we are at 120mph or so the ML63 pulls pretty dang hard. i wish i had 2 extra gears haha.
ive read that power braking isnt benificial either but i have really tested it yet. from my few races so far i think power braking is better..... if you know how to do it. i think a very small amout of tire squeal from a AWD car is ok

On the blue/orange site there was some deiscusion about powerbraking up to 1500-2000 was ok, but more hurt times. I haven't tested either myself. Noone to race here. :(

I too, accept the challenge. Pulled nearly 4 full lengths on one TODAY going down La Jolla Pkwy from a dead stop ... Never caught me

I do not take my ride to the track and do not have a g-tech, but I've tried powerbraking and it doesn't feel as quick off the line. So, I no longer add the stress of powerbraking to the vehicle since I don't feel like I gain any benefits.

guys ... ive raced an ml63 as i posted on mbworld ...

and i am objective i both a mercedes sl55 and a jeep srt8 ...

I raced my friend who has an ml63 and the results were the same ... the jeep will kill until 85-100mph~ then the ml63 will pass and the jeep cant do anything about it

im surprised the jeep is quicker through the quarter, i figured given the extra power, only 200lbs more weight, and 7 gears the ml63 would put up a 12.9-13.0

glad were still king of the suv hill, quarter mile wise atleast

I'm not. A vehicle's acceleration is comprised by more than horsepower, weight, and transmission.

like?
aero = both are bricks
gearing = have to look into it but iirc the ml63 has gearing as low (or lower) as the srt8 up to its 3rd gear
power curve = again id have to look into it but given the ml63s displacement advantage i would be surprised if it wasn't making more power in more places than our engines

seems to me the ml63 shouldve been faster. seems unlikely AMG would want to play second fiddle to SRT as well.

i am glad were still the quickest, just surprised

I was surprised also because since Mercedes owns jeep i would think that they wouldnt release a car that is $40k or so less than the ML63 and still have it be faster

Then again M-B's are not loaded with plastic, and has a decent paint job. There is also the small matter of resale value, quality, and other items. For the price the Jeep SRT is a decent vehicle. Its a shame I had to buy the Jeep to get the engine.

The SRT is not faster than the ML63, from the video it clearly walks the SRT, the SRT's advantage at the start is it has a 3.73 gear, the heavier ML63 has a 3.45.

In a sense it is faster though. we raced 4 times and i won til we got to about 100mph. that there say is it is faster. From a 20mph roll though the ML63 and the Jeep are about the same til you get around 70-70mph and then the ML63 starts to walk but still in some instances the SRT is faster.

After riding in both cars i think the SRT throws you back in the seat harder at low speeds. But the ML definitely throws you back harder at higher speeds. it a trade off and depends on how you look at it. All in all, in real world driving i think the SRT is the faster car and probably is on the track too since on the track you rarely get about 100 mph. If my friend still has the ML63 when summer rolls around we will go race at Miller Sports Track and see who is faster on the track. Just in case you don't know Miller Sports Track is a new track here that is the largest track in north America i believe...

Either way, it's a thing of beauty!! :D

Just don't try to take one from an 90 mph roll, then? ;)

Erm, it's starting to get a little testy over there?

Right, someone didn't appear care for the 'slow reaction time' comment very much...

That's an automatic comment, on any automobile enthusiast forum, whenever threads like that pop up... As are 'can't drive', 'parking brake must have been on', and on and on...
