The truck makes this clanking noise coming from the pipes after I shut her off from a substantial drive. It goes just like the title Clank----Clank----Clank for a couple of minutes. Is this normal? It just started doing this. I'm at 1,200 on the clock! I'm guessing she's still kinda breaking in.

Ours does that too. I just figure that the exhaust system is cooling off.

Mine does it too. I have found that with the colder weather, it does it less now. For example, if the temp is below 40 deg, no noises after power down. Above 40 deg, yes. Even louder above 80 deg outside (during the summer, it was embarrasing it was so loud). Dealer checked, said normal. BTW, I have 8500 miles now.

yeah, i'm in CT its averaging about 40 here during the day right now...and every time I shut the engine off after driving around for a while it clanks like that. I figured it was the pipes cooling off...i dont think it's anything to worry about, just annoying.

Yeah, I have that noise, too. I'm at 21,000 miles and have had it almost the entire time. I have also noticed that it's less prevalent in cooler weather. I asked my service tech about it and he said that it's a "normal" nosie, so there was nothing they could do to fix.

At least mine isn't the only one, lol. Thanks!
The noise is very common. It's gremlins. :)

It's the main cat bearings cooling down. Do a search for cat bearings.;)

its a leak! albeit harmless, but when I got my Mopar exhaust, the service tech told me he found a minor fluid leak and patched it up under warranty...I havent heard the noise since.
its the drip down onto the hot exhaust and it makes that noise

Any car (at least with 6 cylinders I guess) makes this noise after being driven hard... ABSOLUTELY natural and common. Don't worry at all :)... The harder the car is driven the faster the " Clanks " are ...

My mr2 spyder did this after shutting down after it had warmed up. The exhaust was all bunched up like in the rear where the engine was so it would get really hot. It was more like a light clank with a slight ping in it. I'm sure a lot of vehicles do this. The sound would change slightly too.
Post a sound byte of it.
