i've been talking with a local dealer and they want a $2k deposit to order an 07 in june. is this common? $500 below sticker though. do the bigger dealers get priority to have their orders filled first or are the orders sent out in the order that they were taken? i'm wondering since this is a small dealership if they will be way down on the list.

Hey, send me $1K and then in June I'll go down & place an order in your name for a 2007 GC SRT-8. And I'll get you $1K under sticker easily enough.

$500 should be a sufficient deposit, this is not a vehicle a dealer would be stuck with if someone backed out. Tell them no more than $500 deposit or you'll find another dealer. Allocation is based on dealer volume but involves some complicated formulas. Has this dealer received any other SRT8's in the past? There really is no guarantee that a placed order is going to get you a vehicle. A lot of dealers will be glad to take your money without having any idea whether they will be able to get your vehicle or not. As long as the deposit is refundable I would place a deposit at more than one dealer to increase your chances.

I had a dealer in chicagoland tell me the same thing but that was just to place an order, not specifying the year.

The larger the dealer the better their chances of getting an srt8. I would not waste your time with a small dealer. They will take your money, probably with the best of intentions to get you what you want; but they just won't be able to. Give your money to a dealer that has had 06's on their lot. If this dealer didn't have any 06's, why would he get 07's. just my 2 cents.
