: Picked up mine and already some kills
BlackedOut 12-29-2006, 10:05 AM Well i picked up my black srt8 yesterday and it feels great. worked on doin a good break in yesterday and the looks i get are awesome. I headed up to the ski hill in it with my three friends and at the start of the canyon a 2007 m5 saw me and started to follow. I didn't think he would follow me all the way up but sure enough he did. it was at night so there was no one on the road and we hauled ass up the canyon. he never got past me but stuck close the whole time. i could tell when he went full throttle he would gain a bit on me but not much and on some of the straight aways he wouldn't gain at all. Keep in mind i have a full car with 4 people and full of ski gear. At the top i talked to him, he was an older guy but really cool. he said he loved my car and i asked him if he wanted to trade but he said no thanks haha.
Later that night i raced my friends sooped up A4 with a chip and down pipe (no cat after turbo) which makes it pretty fast. we went a few times from a roll only cuz i don't want to do a full launch yet. the first time was in auto with traction on and he beat me at the start because it didn't kick down into 1st gear but i caught up to him around 70mph and beat him. next time was in manual mode from about a 15mph roll and i killed him from the start to end about 4 cars lengths. same exact thing on the 3rd run.
funn stuff and everyone stares at the car haha
maf1960 12-29-2006, 10:42 AM nice story - good luck with the break-in. I have a little over 5,000 miles myself. It is my understanding (and personal expierience) that our motor has "driver memory" right from the get go - meaning that how you break it in is how your SRT/8 will end up behaving. Knowing that from jump street, I was a little rough on her and so far she is getting better and better each and every mile!

So you mean no break in?
Thats what i want to hear :D :D
BlackedOut 12-29-2006, 11:15 AM mine had about 140 miles of break in before i romped on it. im going to wait til 300 miles til i launch it from a stop or go over 100 mph
El Jefe 12-29-2006, 11:24 AM where did my post go? nice job man!
maf1960 12-29-2006, 11:30 AM Nope - no break-in needed and running fine. Sine then, using the finest synthetic oil and 94 octane as an everday rule. No additional gas additives - waste of money and a little taxing on the plugs.
FastJeepSRT8 12-29-2006, 12:26 PM Great story, glad to see you found someone to play around with right away. I'd have to second the "No break-in" theory. Everyone I've talked to including my dealer say jump on it and drive it like you stole it from the start. These engines now get hours, not miles, put on them at the factory so they're pretty much broken in when we get them with 9 or 10 miles. At least this is how a freind of mine explained it to me. He works at the Ford plant in Chicago. I had only 70 miles on mine when a moded out Mustang tangled with me. I just couldn't resist the urge and I hammered him over and over. Enjoy that Jeep!
JTSRT 12-29-2006, 12:47 PM Hey, new to the forum:
Some info I heard from the dealer is that there is a chip that will only allow the engine to run at 80% for the first 1000 miles that eventually burns itself out. The other thing is in the manual it states to take it easy for the first 300 miles, I think - maybe check it out.
OurZoo 12-29-2006, 01:21 PM I was relatively gentle for the first 300 miles and that's it!

Not true. Dealers are clueless ;)

Actually, it's the dealers chip that burns out! :)
