Is it just me, or are there more of you who are cheesed off about the way North American Auto manufacturers are treated? Why is it that states and provinces will give huge tax concessions and other incentives to Toyota,Honda, etc. for them to build plants here but not to our own auto manufacturers? And why do we allow them to ship their products here tariff free when Chrysler and others have huge import taxes applied to their autos when shipped to their countries? Is there something wrong with this picture?? Someone please correct me if I am way off base here!! Isn't it time for us to stand up and ask our governments to support Chrysler and others here?

I dont know the entire story behind all of that, But I agree with you, I did here one of the candidates discuss that very issue, I'm not about to turn this into a election debate, lets keep to the thread. Somethings has to change.

+1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:flame:
First, I agree that the 3 American companies should be building in the US & not Mexico/Canada. It's a shame that an American icon like Chrysler is going to be gone, but the Jap companies are flourishing here in the US. Tariffs should be used for a reason, to protect the countries employees. Too many big business men/politician w/their hands in the cookie jar. IMO.

Great topic you bring up.
just a couple of corrections or fyi's, thailand and canada are giving tax breaks to us auto makers i think it was canada that even did it retro active to 2007 jan and saved gm i think it was 5 million dollars. Gov. arnold its not a tumor from cali is setting up special zones in cali where any auto maker can get tax breaks if they set up clean fuel vehicle plants ie TESLA 0-60 mph in 3.5 second electric car maker will probably be the first to take advantage.
One has to know that the capital tax is a company killer.
The other point is uaw another sore subject of us vs them mentality has to change.
Do you guys remember back in 1990's and early 2000 car makers correction SUV makers were just raking in the $$$$ im not even going to say or ask, did they think it was going to last forever??
Well the forsight was poor as hell looking into the future was put on the back burner as was the push for the alternative fuel car that was already drawn up but everyone was counting the $$$$ so it was forgotten about.
A little back ground about myself i finished high school but wasnt soo lucky with college, so i went into sales (joint replacement implants) i've been working for one company for the past 12 years, i earn more then 300k so borack wont see or get my vote but thats besides the point. He wants to stop giving tax breaks to car companies (us car makers who send their work abroad) well that would just cripple their asses now wouldnt it?
And for the finale these low gas prices will also go back up because the demand will eventually go back up i also forgot to mention that if this problem is not resolved towns and cities like detroit will just vanish 100's of thousands will be jobless like our friend Don.
sorry for the length there is soo much more i would like to say but not enough time plus i have a 5 and a 7 year old to play with good luck to all
