: Anyone try 17" Grand Cherokee wheels for snow tires?

Looking into trading in an 02 Grand Cherokee in on an SRT8. I was wondering if my 17" factory wheels off of my 2002 Grand Cherokee would fit on the SRT8 to use for snow tires, i see that another member used 17" wheels off of a Dodge Intrepid with a spacer and they worked. The backspacing between the 17" and 20" and about the same, but i'm worried about clearance for the caliper.

was wondering the same thing as the original poster... would regular OEM jeep rims fit (even with a spacer)?

if so, i think a set of take-off rims from a Limited/Laredo would be a cheap winter solution that looked good too

ask KMAN999 - he has some on order that cleared the calipers without spacers

FYI -

Tirerack finally offereing winter package for JGC SRT8:
19 " ASA wheels (black or silver)

I already ordered my 18" Alba wheels from a local shop, so a bit late... anyways, there is more choice in the 18" range for tires.

If anyone around the Montreal area wants the 18" Albas, contact Frank at www.lazer-auto.com.

Tire rack site says rims not available until 2/21/07.

yep, a little bit too late for me.. maybe next year I'll consider the package. I actually like the rims. Anyways, my jeep seems to be handling just fine with the stock set up. Of course, Mass hasn't had any big storms yet. We did have a dusting yesterday though, and it handled just fine.

true that it handles more or less fine with stock setup, but like most of us have noticed in the north east, old man winter hasn't unleashed his wrath yet. It was a 2 part decision for me.
1) get prepared for the real winter when it hits
2) conserve those insanely expensive stock wheels

and you know what, I paid this much money on a suv and don't want to have to ***** foot all the time when there's a dusting of snow/ice. that's just wrong...

KMAN, please post some pics when you have them installed. I'm sure we all wonder how much clearance there is between calipers and rims. Thanks.

sure no prob. mid Jan is installation date.

FYI - The supplier out in California has already fitted them to the GC SRT8 with no clearance issues. I'm 1 of 2 owners so far who have ordered the setup from our local shop.

from my other post:

Looking at the attached pic, the wheel design lends itself to maximum caliper clearance. Of course, ultimate proof will be after installation.

Just as an FYI ... I went with 20" nokians on the stock rims. By next time this year I'll have picked up some cheap 20" winter rims (I hope).

BTW ... came close to buying the 18" setup posted on the blue site but decided on waiting to see what is avail in late '07.

Experince thus far: 1 snow fall (5") and 3 freezing rain episodes; the nokians have been up to the task.

oh, and the other result was related to an experience in a parking lot parallel with a black TBSS (clearly the fastest of the fast colors)

To make a long story short, I parked next to a black TBSS in the TDCanadatrust parking lot in in Orangeville Ont (on or about 30Dec06). By the time I returned to the truck a small crowd had gathered around our trucks and asking many, many questions. If anyone here knows the TBSS driver (it had a baby seat in the back row) I would gladly treat a round at Devil's pulpit in the spring... PM me your details & we are good to go! The same applies to any GTA GC STR8 owner as well!! (ok …. I’ll do a 4 some so first come first served.)

lucky,

I almost waited like you also for cheaper 20" rims next year, but figure the winter rubber in that size is more costly than the 18" variety. Plus your winter in T.O. is not as bad as Montreal...well in the past years at least. This is the mildest winter for as long as I can remember... But we're never home free until March/April :)

Yup ... it was a toss-up but decided on the 20's for when the roads are bare & dry. For sure the full set-up for the 20's will cost more than the full set-up for the 18's. Of course what will really suck is if the warm weather continues & this was all for not. I had to go up to our cottage to find any white stuff & it lasted all of 1 day, followed by freezing rain.

yeah, that's in the back of my mind. All this running around and dishing out of $$ to find out later that winter won't be bad this year... But odds are (for me at least), I will definitely need the softer compound this year.
