.....and won! :D He's been giving me a hard time ever since I told him I could probably beat his Porsche. Well today I finally got the chance. We were leaving his office and he started in on my Jeep right away, "So that's the menacing Jeep I'm supposed to be so afraid of? How much does that beast weigh?". I just smiled and said "Why don't you race me and find out?" We both had some time to kill, which is rare, so off we went. I let him go in front of me as we zoomed through some of the back roads to avoid traffic on our way to the highway. As hard as he tried he couldn't shake me so I backed off a bit to keep him interested. We got to a fairly sparce part of the highway just out of town and played around a bit before dogging it to catch the first light. This was definitely the most fun I've had in my SRT8 so far. I beat him off the line and pulled the whole way all the way to 90mph! I slowed down so he could catch up to me ;) , and he wanted to go again from about 60. This one was a little closer but I still beat him. I didn't have any shift problems in full auto but I think with his tiptronic and lighter weight he did a little better here. He wanted to find another light and try something different. So we found one and I beat him even worse! He never said what he was trying to do but whatever it was it didn't work. This was a blast! Even though he got beat he was grinning from ear to ear and so was I. When I got back to my office I sent him a text message, 4800lbs 46K how u feeling now? To keep things in perspective here he's driving an '06 911 Carrera Cabriolet with the 3.6L and tiptronic auto so it was pretty much like racing a Mustang off the line. If he had splurged a little more for the Carrera-S he would have had a better chance. Either way I still paid $40K less. :)

My brother in law has the same Carrera. He doesn't know I have the GC yet, but I was tellin him I would kick his azz with the Charger with a few passengers and their golfclubs to boot.

Now this is a great story. Wish you could post a picture of his face after the run. It's amazing to me how many people who own Porsche's, and you assume by their choice that they must know cars or be a car person, that really have no idea. They just assume because it's a Jeep that it's nothing.

It is funny how timely your post....

Last night I was driving home from work...and was ona three lane road with a series of 3 close stop lights. The last one in this close series prefaces the left lane ending in 500 feet. I was blasting (not even half throttle) from the first two. Traffic would catch up to me as the next one turned green. By the third light I was in the middle of the three lanes fully stopped. I see a Porsche coming down the left lane (the one about to end 500ft past the light) coasting as he was waiting for the green. It looked to me as it was a Boxster...so I gunned it a little harder off the line (definitely over half throttle but not much more). The Porsche stuck to my rear fender....then started gaining... right before the 500ft lane end...I moved over to the right lane to avoid any craziness. He slowly pulled slightly ahead and then slowed down. By the next light, about a 1/4 up from there, there was someone in my lane and no one in his lane. He pulled even with me and started yelling something. It was actually a 997 Carrera S cabriolet. The owner was a white haired older dude who was either the biggest a-hole or one funny dude. He started telling me.. "hey! I thought those Jeeps were fast!" I said...'what do you expect...you were already moving when you started and I wasn't sure you wanted to play'. He claimed he was in 2nd gear at 20mph. I started asking if it was a "4S" (because he never passed me to the point of me seeing his rear badges). He was like..."It is a Porsche!!" (like no sh!t). I asked him if it had all wheel drive...he said no. He said he had a "souped up" CLS at home and that the Porsche was faster. I told him I would take him off the line. He said "go home and get rid of that Jeep and get a German car". He was laughing...so I am not sure he was joking or a one enormous a-hole. He wanted no part of me after the light turned (that is when I finally saw his Carrera S badging. We finally were side by side again (with a clear road ahead) and he pretty much ignored me. I was so mad afterward that I didn't launch in "all out commando mode" (how I describe it). But I honestly thought it was a Boxster or Cayman. I didn't think it was necessary.

I have a Boxster and there is no doubt the Jeep is faster on the straight but the boxster is way better on the corners. At least let me put it this way the boxster gives me more confidence on the corners. I have a great seriesof S bends near my house and the Porsche just eats them up whereas the Jeep just doesn't have the stability
