: Dealer markup F-ups? Pricing ?'s from a Skunk's POV?
Kimono_skunk 12-28-2006, 12:07 PM :o Re: New Members Check-In... from a skunk??
Hi, i'm a new member here, and wished to wave a paw hello. I was looking at the forums, looking at the pics, videos, chatter of where this SRT was at what time, and was it you?
I am contemplating about a purchase of either a red or silver SRT in the near future, or as soon as I get the WC settlement on my right knee back in march. Fractured same knee 2xs in one week, 2 different accidents.
Among the funnier things I seen is as follows...
quoted from TommyG...
I wanted silver at first, but the only one available in my area at that time was new, on a dealer lot. The sales guy told me sticker was $44,900, but they were asking $59,900. I just laughed and walked away. Bought mine the next day. Five weeks later the silver one is still sitting there, up on its pedestal.
Now, ill post this part again in the general forums for these questions I have.
1. Have you seen a lot of the sickening dealer mark ups as this one was?
After seeing this markup, i'll do a bit of looking in other states as well, or online for a good price.
2. I do like the more sleeper-ish <is that a word here? sp.... xD > color of the silver , but I also love the retina frying color of the red. Wife likes both, so I am at a loss... choose your color, and why.? Is there a white available?
3. Did anyone do a fairly unbiased comparison of the SRT8 vs the TBSS? As these suv's are also suffering from huge dealer markup as well. I was interested in the TBSS, but again, the badass styling of the SRT swayed me and wife unit to the SRT.
I'll be flowing with the torrid takes of the hunt for the perfect new, or even.... used... SRT8 to take the place of my 97 CVPI in my driveway.
until then, bows...

CapnFKW 12-28-2006, 12:37 PM Interesting article in Car and Driver concerning the Jeep SRT8 vs. TBSS:

They declare the TBSS the winner, but performance-wise (the whole reason most of us buy these) the Jeep blows the TBSS's doors off.
jlandbl 12-28-2006, 12:50 PM Interesting article from November Road and Track (Jeep SRT8, TBSS, Blown Range, Cayenne Turbo, FX45, X5 4.8).
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=4065&page_number=1
Highlights (in my opinion):
GCSRT8
"The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the new bad-ass SUV......In outright speed, it flat spanked every vehicle here....Jeep has been bragging that the GC SRT8 runs to 60 mph in under 5.0 sec., wet or dry. They weren’t lying: In our testing it ripped to 60 in just 4.6 sec. and to the quarter mile in 13.2 at 104.1 mph..... But the biggest difference is felt when you throw the GC SRT8 into a curve. In a typical Jeep, you’d be met with varying degrees of squish; with the SRT8, rock-solid handling. A 1.0-in.-lower ride height, Bilstein dampers, stiffer springs, larger anti-roll bars and 255/45R-20 front tires and 285/40R-20 rears transform the GC SRT8 from ho-hum SUV into sports-car competitor.....The Jeep is what the Cayenne should have been — focused 100percent on performance; road performance, that is.”
TBSS
"While reasonably quick in a straight line (when did 5.8 sec. to 60 mph become only reasonable?), we were let down by the SS in most other dynamic categories, such as a suspension that’s too soft for serious back-road flogging; it’s definitely not up to “supersport” levels, more like “semi-sport.” ........While none of us loved the TrailBlazer SS, and found certain aspects of it frustratingly trucklike.........Also on our “What’s up with GM?” rant list was the TrailBlazer’s 4-speed automatic, which we believe makes it the last vehicle on earth equipped with such an antiquated device......While it gets manhandled by the Jeep SRT8 in just about every performance category, we wonder if the “average Joe” might actually find the Chevy — with its smoother ride and less in-your-face attitude."

The Jeep lost because of towing capacity.
OurZoo 12-29-2006, 07:19 AM My original dealer called from where I did the first test drive yesterday. The night I went in I walked as they said they were getting 5K over sticker. They wanted to know if I was still looking for one. I said I had already picked one up without the dealer markup! He sounded like he felt like a dumbass.:D
Same over here, i went for the dealer and he add $2500 over the sticker, then i search on the net and found one with Woodhousem Thanks Dave for the great service i bought mine from him and he helped me to find another one just like mine from another dealer.
Even with the DL charge + Sale Tax it is still cheaper than the guy over here:D
Kimono_skunk 01-03-2007, 03:09 PM Well after a few days of shopping, I was doing a bit of research with my wife and daughter, about getting the SRT8 when the settlement comes in.
So I did an impromptu eyeball at a TBS and the Jeep SRT8, with her imput as well.
I seen a silver TBSS, and did an eyeball around at a local dealer.
Surprise 1. The TBSS was on sale for 32,199 from a listed 39,000. Hmmmms, must mean its the 2wd model and they are not selling well. However, I do like the 2wd tho and the price definately put my stripes in a kink, in a good way.
The silver looked good, but the front end styling, and the wheels, including being a funny looking style, didn't really appeal to me even tho they are 20's.
Now, im not very picky on who has the biggest rims this year, its just the style of them that was lacking. Possible the better looking LS wheels for the TBSS was the 2003 TB stock 5 spoke, now they looked fairly good. Point for Jeep, better looking wheels overall.
Surprise#2 A single exhaust pipe. Ok.... o.0 huh? Shouldn't an SS have Dual pipes? Another point for Jeep for obvious reasons, Chevy Really goofed on this one... Upon more research, Chevy stated that the single pipe was for gas tank clearances.
Overall, Chevy needed a good bit of work to win me over, even tho the price seemed nice. But the price could not cover the shortcomings of the TBSS.
Surprise #3: Safety... The TBSS Front crash was rated Average and good, where the Jeep was excellent. Ok, that did the TBSS in. I have a wife and daughter, and the Jeep sold me on that by far.
Surprise 4: Well not a real surprise, the Jeep just looks meaner, unlike the TBSS, which looks good, but the Jeep outshines here. Only point down for the jeep is a personal taste issue. Would like to see one done in White with the blacked out windows and trim. But thats me.
I hope that was a good review. I couldnt test drive anything yet, I will wait for the finances to work out before doing so. But when that happens, you can be F'ing certain I will put the Jeep SRT8 through it's paces.
I was raised around musclecars all my life, from my dad's 66 Hemi Charger 4 speed 426 monster. (that car got me hooked on dodges). My brother's many GTO's including a 70 455 Ram AIR III. My cars (all 34 of them as I grew up) were from 75 Elcamino with a vette motor, to a 62 Fairlane Sport Coupe with a 221 v8 with a 2 speed. My baby cobra XD.
Stay tunes, well, mebee in a few months when your skunk friend shall describe the SRT8 test drive.
bows,
Kimono_skunk
There should be no more huge markups on the SRT8 now. '06 ~$37000+ '07 ~39000+.
shodanusmc 01-03-2007, 09:39 PM 39K is a great Employee Price for an 07 with Opt Package 1, Navi and Sunroof. Oh, and then add on Taxes and the other Misc BS
Mango 01-04-2007, 05:48 AM I paid $41,000 for both of my SRT8's. Fully loaded 07's. Sticker price was close to $47,000. I don't know how you guys are seeing such huge markups, I guess demographics and availiblity.
Krush 01-04-2007, 12:17 PM The TBSS vs. GC SRT8 decision was easy. The GC handles like a Corvette, the Blazer handles like, well, a Blazer. The added cost of the GC makes perfect sense once you actually drive them both.
