: The neglect has gone on too long, finally gave up the keys!!

I've finally decided its time to give up the keys... a few days anyway. To keep a long story short, my beast hasnt had a full detail in about a year, and in the meantime, ive been washing it with a microfiber mit but the thing is one of those little plastic tag attacher things was in the fibers of the, which i didnt notice for about 10 washes. i couldnt figure out where the scratches were coming from. So I finally got my garage in order over the weeekend and decided i cant be driving around like this anymore. I picked up some new supplies for my Porter Cable and im going to just go to town on it for the next few evenings. I gave my girlfriend the keys and said dont give them back till it looks like an 09!!

As you can tell from the first 2 pictures, from about 5 feet away it looks good, cant really see the scratches at all. ( besides a good one that goes about half way down my passenger doors)
But once i got the light right, the pictures show how brutal shape the paint really is in. I managed to get some really good shots to show the bad shape of the paint but it really dosnt look that bad when im driving trust me.

So im ready for a grilling from you guys for letting it get like this and i promise I wont do it again or Matt has permission to repo it with his 50 Cal.

Ill post pictures of the current condition after a wash and dry (now) and ill post the after pictures when im done.

CentralTexHemi
10-21-2008, 09:29 PM
Squig let me know if you need some advice on how to get all that stuff out at least you have the orange pad which is what you need with a good extreme cut polish but you may need a wool buffing pad and some 1800-2000 grit sandpaper. I'm not gonna go into detail here so I will PM you my cell # there is one place that does sell the wool pad with backing plate that is for the PC but most places do not as most wool pads are not meant for orbital buffers like the PC but for most forced direction buffers. On the bright side it can be fixed but with the PC it will take you a while. Start out washing it with Dawn, clay bar it and then get started with your PC,Orange Pad and it looks like you have some Detailer Pro polish (yeah I know my stuff-LOL) hopefully its good for cutting. Start out on level 5 and use some detail spray to keep the heat down and extend the cutting and slowly jewell it down.

CentralTexHemi
10-21-2008, 09:59 PM
If you use the proper pad with any paint correction polish you should not have any swirls. From the looks of it Squig you need to hit it full force, hopefully your pads are made by Lakewood and are all CCS pads. Blackfire makes a great compound similar to sanding with a 1500-1800 grit sandpaper but I have a felling your gonna have to wet sand some of those spots but as long as your not seeing the water turning black your okay. If you were confidant or could get ahold of a makita forced direction polisher you would cut this job in half with the makita and wool pad. Just be sure after you wet sand and use the cut that you follow up with polish activator applied by hand and good finishing polish and wrap it up with a finish enhancer.

Take your time and be sure to mask off any plastic and remove the front/rear Lisc plate trust me take the time to do it before you start and take breaks if your at it for too long you will tend to make careless mistakes. I usually will mask off a section with blue painters tape and do that section that way I know for sure where I have been. The hardest part is the front and rear bumpers so if you can get a 4" backing plate and 5" Orange pad it will help in those small areas and feel free to call me if you want bro.
