Drain some by partially opening the drain bolt.

My front [edited] differential was making clunking noises at certain downshifting, low speed and WOTs. Strange stuff. One day, with the car on the rack, I rotated the front tires back and forth to see if I could get it to make the sound, see if I had too much gear lash, etc, and the damn transfer case "jumped". Bad bushing in top mount - made a clunk under my feet. 3 New bushings, no more clunk. Now that is one type of clunk, not sure if it is your clunk, but you can visually inspect the three bushings to see if they are shot.

[edited] Good luck with your transfer case. Maybe totally differently problem, but was a source of an intermittent clunk for me.

I may have more miles, but yours is older. Unless it's based on mileage only.

Flush the tc fluid every 6-8k, i've flushed mine 4x already and now i can barely hear any audible tcase noise even with the trac off....and every time the fluid came out it was dark as sh*t...but has gotten lighter in color with every change.

Hmmm...mine is in the shop right now getting a new one...I never changed my fluid since I thought it didnt have to be changed till 50K...

30k if you baby it, 15k if you drive it the way we all drive it. That is the manuals requirement for the tcase fluid change. I'll take half of what they say.

Vinny if you could find out exactly which wire it is and what it pertains to might help out some others in the future
