Is the low tow rating because of the tires?? I thought the tow rating for the v8 was like 6500. Im sure the drive train could handle it. I know iv asked a couple of questions lately but Im seriously convincing myself to get one very soon.

The engineers only tested up to 3500#. Some say the weak link is the park pin on the transmission. If you want to tow that much Mango is probably right, try something else, maybe even a TB SS.

not really towing much, got the denali p/u for that, but was just wondering why it was that low. I heard that the tires can affect the tow ratings and was thinkin that may be the case. maybe not.

Nobody has ever mentioned the tires. Only park pin and testing.

not here, just in general towing.

They can, I know that was a limiting factor on my Harley f-150. Only 5000# due to the tire type.

the tranny / torque conveter is the weak link. With the high stall it creates mass amounts of heat under load. The same is true for a TBSS when you put in a equal stall to the jeep. this is the main reason the jeep is faster stock vs stock.

Dont tow with the SRT....youll kill the tranny.

To the original poster.........ignore this ridiculous statement.

UNLESS........

DevssrT.........you care to explain on what you base this blatant statement, and back it up with some facts, personal experience, or proven cases of failure related to towing. There are several of us here, (including some who tow much more weight than I), who have been towing for years, with absolutely no problems. In my case, about two and a half, with easily over 19,000 miles towing out of a total of 40,000. Lots of high speed trips, mountain roads, rapid acceleration, and use of autostick for both up and down shifts.

No slippage, no blips, no issues, and the fluid has been good and odor free at each change out. Just my experience, but it has made the ownership much more enjoyable.

And, as said in an above post, and stated by the SRT engineers, it is limited to 3500 lbs. due to the fact that is all they have tested it too, and the design and strength of the pin.

Looks like they're still testing.:)
