: found new feature :D
Dr.Steve 10-17-2008, 04:19 PM Ok, I may be slow sometimes, and I miss some threads, but I don't think I've ever seen or read about this before. I've always wondered why our phones weren't truly "hands free" and why they (DCX) wouldn't incorporate some sort of steering wheel control for it. Well, it turns out that if you hold down the left circular (middle) steering wheel mounted radio control long enough, it cues up the phone prompt :D Am I a jackass for not noticing this one time in the last 45,000 miles or did I just find something that will help us all in some tiny way? Flame or praise away!!!!
QBNKID 10-17-2008, 04:31 PM Yup, I posted about that on street jeeps back in Feb '07....
But it doesn't work on my '08 with MyGig
1. UCONNECT – Using with radio’s steering wheel buttons.
Hold down for about 2 seconds the middle left button behind the steering wheel to place a call and then again to hang up.
2. UCONNECT – Switching a call to the handset for privacy.
Press the Voice Recognition UConnect button on mirror and say Transfer Call or just say Transfer; it should also be an option on your cell’s options menu.
3. NAV – Using with radio’s steering wheel buttons.
a) Holding down the middle Right button for about 2 seconds will enable the NAV screen.
b) When prompted to hit enter select the middle Left button.
c) Navigate through the menus with the up & down Left side buttons and select with the middle button.
Note: When the steering controls are enabled, you will see a small steering wheel icon at the bottom right hand corner next to the time.
Get$$$Man 10-17-2008, 04:47 PM ^^^^^^^^^^Thanks for those :)
Grip Grip 10-17-2008, 04:55 PM Great info! I'll give it a shot this evening. :D
QBNKID 10-17-2008, 04:58 PM ^^^^^^^^^^Thanks for those :)No problem, I have that and a few other tips on a sticky thread on the street jeeps site, it comes handy from time to time and having it as a sticky you'll find it fast.
Maybe we should do the same here? I can copy the thread from SJ and create a new one here if an admin makes it a sticky.
We can always ad to that thread as more tips and tricks become available for the current and future jeeps.
SkyeHighSRT8 10-17-2008, 05:02 PM thats good to know, cool.

That would be cool to have a "usefull tips" sticky with stuff like that. One thing that I've learned from this site was to hold the auto stick to the right (+) for a second and it will switch it back to auto. My dad didn't know that either, and it works in his charger.
Dr.Steve 10-17-2008, 05:15 PM nice to know I'm not the only one who didn't know about this :D

Thanks for the info!
I tried it and got the NAV to work like you note but no joy on the UConnect.
It works fine by pushing the UConnect on mirror but does nothing per your instruction #1 above. Any thoughts?
I have an 07 with NAV.
Thanks!

I got to try it i never figured out how to use the blue tooth i only tried 3 times.
larryc7777 10-17-2008, 09:22 PM I found that it is necessary to have the key in the "on" position for the Uconnect to work. I first tried it in accessory position & it wouldn't work.
JohnsonSRT8 10-17-2008, 09:43 PM Cool:) I didn'n know that either lol, dont feel bad Dr.Steve but I've only had the jeep for 15000 miles lol

try holding it down longer, I think it takes longer than 2 sec in my rig.
Brian - not sure if the export models have the stereo steering wheel controls, they are located directly behind the 3 and 9 o'clock positions of our steering wheels, I'll show you next week :D
Dr.Steve 10-17-2008, 11:17 PM p.s. - thanks Scott for adding the nav info, I was so excited about the phone feature that I completely forgot that the right side gave me a surprise as well!
silverbullet 10-18-2008, 12:30 AM DOES NOT WORK on the 08's. I tried with no luck

Thanks!Don't know about the '07s, we should wait for another guy with an '07 to try it and let us know, but so far it seems like it only works for the '05 & '06 WKs.
p.s. - thanks Scott for adding the nav info, I was so excited about the phone feature that I completely forgot that the right side gave me a surprise as well!Who's Scott?
Guys I missed those s.w. hand controls now in my '08, I think that's the only thing I miss from the '05 Limited I had.
I can't believe they took that away from newer years, I'm thinking those features might need to be turned on via StarScan.
If I have a chance I'll ask this questions on the next SRT Engineering chat session.
