: Unbeatable Quality!
shodanusmc 12-17-2006, 08:02 AM Well, picked it up yesterday, the replacement for my Jeep that was returned for the paint issues.
The new one? Well, lets see.
1. Front of headliner appears to have been cut by a dull knife by a drunk. Take a look at yours? Does the very front edge look good, or does it looks like it needs a shave. Amaving that they could not spend another dollar and wrap the material around it, rather than just cutting it.
2. Forward edge of dash has a gouge in it....At least its plastic, right?
3. Top of windshield missing the trim piece....Unbelievable
4. Very bottom of front fascia is distorted where one of the rods and bolt is located at the bottom. In back of the Chrome piece in the middle of the fascia is a piece of plastic that was not trimmed evenly...just painted over
5. The paint job is better, but still has bubbles in it. I gave DMX another chance, this will be my last vehicle from them.
Mango 12-17-2006, 12:19 PM You seem to have INCREDIBLY bad luck, I'm sorry to hear it. My SRT8 is in fantastic condition and does not have a single issue. I have high standards and I have none of the issues you are mentioning.
My dads SRT8, which just came in, is also in mint condition. *shrugs*
Maybe you should just start buying Mercedes or BMW's.

They all have orange peel from the factory, some worse then others. And also its what you perceive to be a problem may not be to others and vise versa.

I have not observed any "orange peel", then again, I guess I haven't looked hard enough.

My paint came with zero orange peel, and thus far no cosmetic issues.
Unfortunately, they have been mechanical

Mango 12-17-2006, 03:45 PM Yeah, I guess I don't go around my truck looking for faults. *shrugs*
so far mechanically and cosmetically sound.

App, my wife drives an 06 BMW X5 4.4. THe paint is flawless. However, within the first month of ownership it had to have the Fuel Pump and all 8 injectors replaced, as well as the rear shoulder harness replaced. I know there is no such thing as a perfect car, but BMW service was outstanding, and all I have done is fight with the DCX Zone regarding repairs to my first SRT. I looked at a lot of Jeeps yesterday when I was waiting for my new one to be prepped. They all had orange peel and some imperfections. I just can't believe I drove out and got home before I found all of the problems last night. THen again, I was only checking the paint, and did not get on my belly and look at the lower end of the fascia, check out the back of the dash, or the chopped cut headliner,or the missing molding on top of the windshield. I also have a 06 E55 that I have only had in the shop for 2 oil changes. Paint again is flawless. Anyway, I will be at the dealer tomorrow morning and see where it leads.
Glad you have been lucky, as I am sure some of them built are close to perfect. Inferno may have hit the nail on the head when he said that because of the layoffs there may be a few unhappy folks on the line. Either way, its my last Jeep...
Green Light 12-17-2006, 04:51 PM I don't have the orange peel but do have the paint peel on the front spoiler. That started within the first month of ownership. Showed the dealer but will wait until spring to have repainted. Sorry about your troubles. Hope they get resolved.
FireStRT8r 12-17-2006, 07:13 PM The dealer ordered a new headliner for me last month when I showed him that it did not have a clean install above the windshield. Finally it arrived and when he started the install he noticed it was the same. None of them are clean. Sucks of course but what can you do really.
Mango 12-17-2006, 07:22 PM Yeah man, I'm sorry your having the issues. Seems like you have bad luck with vehicles. Hopefully, you'll find a good one someday.
ResumeSpeed 12-17-2006, 08:17 PM 3. Top of windshield missing the trim piece....Unbelievable...
Just black rubber? As Jeep deleted the windshield molding piece awhile back...
timster 12-17-2006, 08:55 PM I haven't noticed any flaws with my jeep, but then again, I haven't really looked all that closely. Not sure some of the things Shodanusmc found would really bug me much.. Don't get me wrong, as I am sure Shodanusmc finds the things he mentioned unacceptable.. I guess everyone has different standards.. Anyway, I wonder if you could post some pics of the issues so we can all get a better look?
On another note, I love my GCSRT8. It's the most fun vehicle I have ever driven, and it looks awesome to boot. I think this truck is a true classic in the making, even with some of the imperfections..
JMHO
Sheri'SRT8 12-17-2006, 10:57 PM It is unfortunate that these problems have come up. My wife and I are really happy with our GC, and have had no issues with it. It's going in for its first oil change tomorrow, with no other issues to address, other than a couple of the TSB's that currently exist.
What is important to remember is that these vehicles are production pieces. They are not much different than a new refrigerator, or clothes washer. They get most of them right, but not of them all the time.
Everything is relative. For the price, there is a lot of value. Yeah, there are things to put up with, but these are the trade offs. If I kept finding problems with vehicles I was looking at, I'd start looking for something else.
Just my $0.02
tainui 12-18-2006, 12:01 PM remember when Chrysler was a bad name in quality.....it wasn't that far off.
Eh2BRUTEh 12-18-2006, 02:18 PM Well after 6000 km my front bumper is peeling paint like so many others. On the front left corner a piece of paint came off in one whole piece about the size of a coke can! It is also peeling all over around the lower spolier where it meets chrome looking pieces. I know its not a new tale but thought I'd report in. Dealer has been great. No questions asked, will remove bumper and repaint.
My dog chewed off the passenger door knob when it escaped from a cage in the back. Replaced by dealer - no charge. Last Hemi trip for dog.
The truck has been great so far. Only mod added so far is Mopar CAI to the already very fast black color.
SRT-8RAT 12-19-2006, 11:01 AM Mine is great.
I love it!
Sorry to hear that some of you guys are not happy.
Inferno SRT8 12-19-2006, 11:31 AM Guys look at your paint from a side angle and you will see ripples, they all have it and please dont say yours does not, YES it does. There painted in the same booth by the same machine. Is the paint perfect no, can a better job have been done yes ofcourse but for a Jeep the quality is good enough. BTW the lighter colors like silver its harder to notice, its more noticable on the darker colors, my 05 WK was the same and the 75+ WK's that were on the lot were the same. I can notice the smallest imperfections in paint. Is it a big deal NO even BMW and Mercedes you will notice it in the paint. The good ole days of made and painted by hand are gone. And if you have not noticed it then your not bothered by it so who cares! Just pointing it out.
Or you can do what my friend did with his Lightning took every body part off it wetsanded the entire car EVERY PART and now he has the most perfect smooth paint job I have ever seen, not a single ripple. Thats perfection. You will not get thet from ANY car manufacturer in todays market.
And when I get in mine and hit the gas the sweet rumble of the exhaust with my KOOKS Headers makes me forget the half ass work they did on some parts of this vehicle, every time I drive it its like I just bought it for the first time again, and that alone speakes for itself.
SRTJeep 12-19-2006, 11:42 AM My 06 has been great and only two issues, both have been fixed and better than new. Paint does have orange peel but no peeling yet. I guess the 06s are better in the cosmetic sense and mine has been great in the mechanical sense too! The LX Vehicles seem better all around? I know they are built in a different plant. Sorry to hear some are having all kinds of problems. LOL Gene
Beltfed 12-19-2006, 11:52 AM Guys look at your paint from a side angle and you will see ripples, they all have it and please dont say yours does not, YES it doe.
Agreed, I haven't seen one SRT8 that didn't have paint flaws thus far....06 and 07s.
Mine isn't horrible as silver is hard to spot imperfections, but there is orange peel, lucked out with the painted over grit (just a tiny dot at the bottom of the door), and one clear coat drip in between the front bumper which could definitely be fixed. That's what I have noticed thus far.
Inferno SRT8 12-19-2006, 11:53 AM My 06 has been great and only two issues, both have been fixed and better than new. Paint does have orange peel but no peeling yet. I guess the 06s are better in the cosmetic sense and mine has been great in the mechanical sense too! The LX Vehicles seem better all around? I know they are built in a different plant. Ditto Gene only 2 paint problems here 1 very small bubble that even if I point it out people have said huh where? And a gash in the rear bumper looks like someone rubbed up against the wet paint in the factoy again not noticable ide have to point it out to you, but the ripples are there, Zaino helps hide them :D
Best paint IMHO is the hood smooth as a baby ass.
Krush 12-19-2006, 12:15 PM I didn't expect perfection from a Jeep, so mine probably has many imperfections but I haven't noticed any yet (and I'm not really looking all that hard). I do understand how people feel though, you expect a certain level of quality for your 50 grand. I took off to Lake Forest Sports Cars one day this summer with the full intention of purchasing a beautiful black 2006 Z06 they had in stock, but I didn't drive it home that day. When i arrived, I walked up to my beauty and when the light caught it just right, I couldn't believe how bad the paint looked. I asked the sales guy if it had been repainted, he said no, and they all looked that bad from the factory. I left, no way could I spend 80 grand on that paint job. Two Weeks later, I get that same Z06 itch, so I head out to D&D on North ave, they have two Z06's in stock. Black and yellow, both looked bad, but again, the black looked horrible and the orange peel would bring a tear to your eye. I could never bring myself to spend the 80 grand, all because of the paint. Sometimes, you just expect more.
RonConcept 12-19-2006, 12:18 PM I'm still trying to get my paint problems done. Mine is differant in the sense that after taking delivery in Aug I noticed that the right quarter panel was repainted somewhere, dealer says they didn't do it and the Jepp rep says it wasn't from the factory, but both agree that it was repainted...a shade off. with a yellow primer under the clearcoat. Shodanusmc, how did you get a new truck? I love the Inferno Red but in the sun you can see that it is a repainted truck, not the truck I thought I was buying. Anyone have any ideas on how to settle this, I'm in New York and bought my truck on Long Island. Help!
