Anyone ever hear of one of these? Is it a gimmic?

Klear Force Oil Filter Magnet
"Klear Force is a uniquely designed magnetic device, which focuses strong directional magnetic fields through the body of your oil filter, literally making the interior walls of your filter a high-strength magnet, which attracts and traps virtually every ferrous metal particle released from normal wear of internal engine components. These tiny abrasives are trapped by the magnetic power and do not continue to flow through your engine. Guaranteed to improve performance, increase lubrication, and increase engine life. Completely reusable, just detach it from your old oil filter and stick it onto your new one. Lifetime Guarantee. Recommended for all gas and diesel engines." 19.95

The one you’re showing in your picture seems a bit small for all the liquid that goes through the filter. FilterMag (http://www.filtermag.com/) is another place that makes these, it seems like a better solution. They also have mags for the tranny and you can stick a smaller version onto your fuel filter, if it is exposed and not hidden in the gas tank. Don’t know if it’s worth the price...

I have been using FilterMAG for years with Synthetic oil with no issues. They do work!

The one you pictured looks very small.

Take a look at what they do here: http://www.filtermag.com/gallery.php?PHPSESSID=7e21adcaaf3ee01599178c211245 0d10

WJ, just curious if you have ever opened one of your old used filters to confirm what FilterMAG is showing on their website? After all, nothing beats an impartial confirmation...

Yes, I have cut a filter open on my my 04 WJ right after it's first oil change. The FilterMAG was installed coming right off the dealer lot when we bought it in 2003.

Yes, the results were typical as in thier photos. I didn't buy the their tool to cut the filter open. Opening my filter was messy and crude, but the results were similar.

It does work!

The FilterMAG is not snakeoil!

WJ, did you use synthetic oil in your '04 from the beginning? or did you start after the first oil change (if it didn't come synthetic from the factory)?

The WJ had conventional oil in the engine off the factory line; however, I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic after the first change. I also only use Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters.

The WK has only had synthetic in the oil pan since the assembly line.

Here are my Jeep’s a Mobil 1 testimonial:

http://mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Car_Care/Performance_Gallery/August_2006_Winner.aspx

Both my Jeeps, the 2004 (WJ) Grand Cherokee 4.0L and the 2005 (WK) Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L are fully loaded (with every known factory accessory) and both are one-of-a-kind factory builds. Both trucks turn heads going down the road or at every dealership where I take them for service; the dealerships have never seen so many factory options on any single vehicle.

Unfortunately, when I don't have time to change the oil myself, they go to the dealership. Mobil 1 oil is specifically stocked by Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealers for the Dodge Viper and SRT (Street Racing Technology) line of high performance vehicles and engines. If Mobil 1 is the factory choice for 400+HP vehicles, then it's the right choice for your vehicle.

With today's soaring fuel prices, combined with higher maintenance costs and increasing vehicle costs, it pays every day to have reduced engine wear, and increased gas mileage for the longevity of your vehicle.

From the very first oil change I have noticed all of my Mopar engines idle, accelerate, and run smoother as well as cooler with Mobil 1 in the crankcase than they did with other oils (conventional and synthetic blends) I have tried.

You should never have to worry about your oil; in fact, it should be the last thing you ever want to worry about tooling down the road, trail or track!

I have Filter mag in y 1970 Dodge Charger & 1970 Plymouth Road Runner and it really works. I have to buy one for my other cars.

Totally agree with you WJ Jeep, I run the 5w-50w in my pick-up and 340 Swinger. Mobil 1 is an excellant oil. I even remember when they made oil drain plugs that were magnetic and caught all those metallic materials floating around the crankcase. Many oil changes the magnetic portion looked like it was growing hair. Although both the plugs and filters might miss some alloys or non-magnetic motor materials they are much better than having nothing.
