Special coating? What special coating? Are they speaking of the same clearcoat that all 06-08's had on the rims? IF so, then the so called special coating is a POS.

Coating on the rims won't help the crappy OEM pads from generating so damn much brake dust . . .

Just curious but there is NO mention of the well documented 50 state certified diesel engine that was supposed to be here for 09, any thoughts?

Here ya go:

CLEVELAND -- (April 2007) Alcoa Forged Specialty Wheels, a Cleveland-based business unit of Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA), today unveiled Dura-Bright[R] technology, a revolutionary new wheel surface treatment available on aftermarket truck and SUV wheels that offers a premium appearance combined with unmatched ease of maintenance.

Alcoa's new Dura-Bright[R] technology is a patented wheel surface treatment that provides sophisticated style that is easy to maintain. It is not a coating or a finish, but a proprietary surface treatment that penetrates and reacts with the aluminum thus becoming an integral part of the wheel.

The revolutionary process resists peeling, cracking and corrosion. Automotive News recently nominated Alcoa Dura-Bright[R] technology with a Finalist nomination in the prestigious 2007 PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers Contribution to Excellence) Award competition.

Related Results "We are proud to announce Dura-Bright[R] technology as an innovative new surface treatment option for our one-half ton truck and SUV aftermarket wheels," said Doug Dietrich, Vice President and General Manager Alcoa Wheel Products. "Dura-Bright[R] technology allows us to expand our product portfolio and offer an innovative new wheel surface treatment that addresses the appearance and ease of maintenance needs of our customers."

Truck and SUV fitments were selected for the initial launch of Dura-Bright[R] technology since they require extensive maintenance and many owners have requested new finish appearance and maintenance options. Alcoa has found that trucks and SUVs with large brake packages generate high amounts of brake dust along with dirt and road grime accumulated in daily driving. Dura-Bright[R] technology continually resists brake dust, dirt and road grime allowing drivers to maintain their vehicle's appearance with minimal maintenance - just with a little soap and water.

Launch fitments for Dura-Bright[R] technology include twenty-inch forged Alcoa Adventure Series wheels currently only offered in polished clear coat and chrome finish options. Dura-Bright[R] technology allows Alcoa to offer a new finish option with unique features not currently available to truck and SUV owners. Five and six-spoke design options are planned for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Lincoln, Nissan and Toyota fitments. Adventure Series wheels with Dura-Bright[R] technology will be available for purchase in second quarter 2007. Other styles and options will follow.

"Dura-Bright[R] technology allows Alcoa to offer a premium new platinum appearance with our wheels," said Brandon Stotsenburg, Director of Automotive Aftermarket, Alcoa Forged Specialty Wheels. "A unique appearance coupled with ease of maintenance is a combination that is not currently available in the aftermarket wheel category."

Each wheel is engraved with an icon to identify the wheel as being treated with Alcoa's new innovative surface treatment allowing consumers to identify the benefits of the product.

As with all Alcoa one-piece forged aluminum wheels, Dura-Bright[R] technology wheels are backed with a lifetime limited structural warranty. A three-year limited warranty is offered on the Dura-Bright[R] technology surface treatment. Visit www.alcoawheels.com or www.strongwheels.com for more details.

The current diesel in the WK will end production in December (2009 models with diesel are Vin'd as 2008 models since they do not pass 2009 regulations). Bluetec 50-state is currently scheduled for the 2010 model year.

Thanks I figured you would know the answer.

I guess the question that remains unanswered Resume: Is a 6.4 in the making for 2010?

That's the $6.4,000 question... hope to have the answer sometime before the end of the year when more plans are finalized :).

O.K., So now we know why the '08's started coming with "ALCOA FORGED" logo stamped into the wheels. Those are the ones identified with the new "Dura-Bright" treatment. We'll see how they hold up......
Here's the Alcoa video about them:

Cool that my 08 came with the Dura-bright treatment. BUT I still call BS on the treatment. The rims/finish are still really fragile and just rubbing your finger on the clearcoat leaves fine scratches. I call this all marketing BS. They said the wheels will not chip. This is not true. Just from normal driving, one wheel got a small rock chip.

Did your 08 come with the Dura-bright treatment, as the brochure states it's new for 2009?
New for 2009 is the segment exclusive Dura-BrightŪ wheel
treatment from Alcoa. This revolutionary wheel treatment is bonded directly to the wheel to provide protection
and convenience throughout the life of the wheel. No longer is there a need to spend money or time after
a day at the track removing brake dust and grime with harsh abrasives or polishing compounds. Simply
wash away dirt, brake dust and oil with soap and water, leaving less work, and more time to enjoy your
SRT8.

Harsh abrasives and polishing compounds? I have the pre-Dura-bright wheels and have always been able to "simply wash away" the dirt and brake dust. I don't see how the coating offers any advantage, it certainly would not allow one to spend "more time" with their SRT8 since either way you still have to use soap and water to wash the wheels.

I read somewhere that if your wheel has Alcoa Forged stamped on it, then it came with the so called finish.

Dura Bright coating is nothing new, my Dad has had Dura-Bright wheels on his NBC Sports tractor trailers now for many years. Only recently have then offered it for the consumer market.

I own a trucking company and we have had dura brights for a while now. Alcoa did just come out with XBR wheels that are bad ass. Dura's last about 7 years and then flake off. The XBR's are supposed to last a lot longer. I just have one Peterbilt with the XBR's and so far so good....
