Hi Guys new owner here and ive been reading the forum for a few weeks about the TCM issue. I would like know when there will be a fix, as my friend works at a dealer and they showed nothing in the system as of a week ago. I would think the problem is wide spread and nothing is being done. Daimler Chrysler is going to have a big head ache in about 2-3 years when these transmissions are needing overhauls because they are not shifting correctly.
Let me share what my truck is doing - 2007 september build - picked up mid november. In auto stick it does shift automatically at redline to the next gear 1-2 2-3 etc.
1-Hard bang shift from 1-2 or 2-3 - intermittant and mostly when cold-mid warm.
2-Lack of kick down to pass and occasional shift lag.
3-Sliding into or out of gear in side street stop sign to stop sign driving - OR it seems like the converter is locking up or not locking up when it should. Would this tranny lock up the converter in gears 2-5?
4-Shifting from reverse to forward or the other way around the engine will not go - you can put your foot to the floor and it goes nowhere or pauses then surges (drive by wire issue, "talking" to the transmission?)
All this seems to coincide or be worsened by the drive by wire. I am strongly against the use of drive by wire, it is numb, sometimes unresponsive and carries no other benefit then keeping costs down for maufacturers. I would pay anyone up to 2500 bucks to make a kit to convert it to a cable - I bet we'd shave off a half second in the quarter mile. This computer controled item has a feedback time during which one thing doesnt no what the other is doing(tranny or throttle) and may be part of the issue. Some serious programming is needed for the reflash. They need to get at least the SRT cars acting like a traditional cable throttle and tranny. This is all my opinion and im sure the actual fix may be be much different.
That said the engineers for these vehicles did an amazing job ! The drive by wire and transmission shifting on my SRT is by far the best ive driven and is very responsive off the line. The tranny and throttle just needs a little tweak and these Jeeps will perfect and a hair quicker.
Does anyone have the part # of the new TCM and or the info on the reflash. I would think a reflash is the correct way to fix this?
