Yes, our High Output transfer case uses Kevlar clutches and GM TracII fluid that is about $8 per quart, NOT $50 per quart.

Thanks, I try to get on Dealerconnect every week or so to get the pulse of whats happening on the service side ...........good/bad
What's the opinion on changing the fluid on a low mile 8600 w/no problems? I was going to wait until ~15k.
CentralTexHemi 09-28-2008, 01:50 PM I did mine at 10,000 and it did not look good it's a coin toss
SkyeHighSRT8 09-28-2008, 03:11 PM mine at 20k looked dark, but was ok. I changed it anyway.

Why wait.....the fluid is the largest cause of the transfer case problems.

Razorecko 09-28-2008, 04:24 PM Hey Jeff, does that mean you have to throw a code/service 4wd light in order for them to inspect the fluid and clutches ?---I saved both of my bottles of tcase fluid from 6&12k miles and they look like @ss. I dont have any errors/codes popping up but is this something i should go and discuss w/ the dealer or wait until a code comes up....oh and the srt engineers both told me that the fluid doesnt look normal...
Fast1 09-28-2008, 04:41 PM Are the 06's immune to this problem? I see it is referring to 07 and 08.
Razorecko 09-28-2008, 04:55 PM This is why my 07 was lemond, they replaced everything electrical because i kept getting the service4wd constantly, they replaced the harness 2x, the fdm, 3x transfer case motor, and i even told the aholes that they should put in a new tcase....but wait that was too much $$$$$ for chrysler...so they wasted my time and ultimately they had to pay me back for a jeep w/ 30k miles on it cause they SUCK ! and towards the end if i drove w/ the trac off -holy crap it sounded like a box of marbles being crushed. Thats why i just parked it and drove my brothers car for a month before everything was finalized. I wasnt gonna have the whole tcase take a crap and than have them blame me for some i'sh.

The SRT Engineers DO know!
It is the warranty dept. that they can't get this through.
The Engineers were going to send me a new transfer case for the info I gave them.
Warranty group turned it down. Bunch of pric*s!

Harrison@Stage6 09-28-2008, 08:40 PM Greaaaat. I just hit 36,500 miles. Funny thing is though my light used to come on about 7K after I serviced it occasionally. Hasn't done it lately, but it is noted in my "file".

Adrian, the MIL for the Service 4WD has about 20 reasons (DTC's) why the MIL would set on the Service 4WD. This is just one case that esculated to a STAR Level, (STAR is when after the dealer tech has no more answers he/she contacts corporate and then they lead them thru troubleshooting and a resolution).
It's apparent that some troubleshooting went on before this particular case was acted on...... as for your previous problems it's hard to say.
At this point most of the old timer's on the board agree that Transfer Case Fluid service on a 5-7K mile service schedule wouldn't hurt as opposed to what Chrysler says. At this point SRT doesn't really mean squat around here anymore. We have our own Guru in Bill.
Razorecko 09-29-2008, 09:03 AM ^ thats about the schedule i've been keeping w/ the tcase fluid- roughly every 6-8k and i'm keeping a small pop bottle of the fluid marked every single time. The dealer is noting that i'm also requesting samples. So if anything should happen i have solid proof this was an issue from day one. I'd like to see a revision either in the actual transfer case or in the way it is produced. Seems like its a sturdy unit but the assembly line operation might not be up to par and many of these units are barely falling into spec.
