: Ethanol in gas
austino 09-26-2008, 06:41 AM Anyone know what Brand is not adding the 10% ethanol? Not sure if it is all over, but in Florida it is hard to come by without it added. They ran a story on the news about a week ago with a guy who had a new tundra and had all kinds of problems. He drained his tank and the gas had all kinds of crap in it. Was blaming it on the 10% that can be added to gas these days. Can't seem to find a place without it though?
SRT84me? 09-26-2008, 06:44 AM These days everyone has some ethanol in their gas. I posed the question to one of the SRT engineers in one of these online chat sessions, and they advised that our engines will be fine with some ethanol as long as the octane is high enough.
Stangfather 09-26-2008, 07:54 AM as i understand it, ethanol actually has a higher octane content..so it should be fine..
10% isnt alot really..not much different than some states summer gas mix..as far as quality goes..

What that means they can add up to 10% but no more. I also heard that mobil 1 has the lowest ethanol in its gas.
robbiesdad 09-26-2008, 12:45 PM Mobil 1 is oil, Exxon and Mobil stations sell the same gas... I am more than a little anal about my car, and I noticed my mileage went from 15.1 to 14.3 MPG in the 6 months since all of the stations here started sporting those 10% Ethanol stickers... Anyone else see a change in mileage that might be due to Ethanol?
Bob
austino 09-26-2008, 12:53 PM On that same story on the news, they mentioned that there were still 1or2 that don't have it in? I sure can't find them. I have checked most of the majors.

Absolutley! When I drove across the states from Washington to North Carolina, I had no options but 91 with 10% ethanol in some places. My mileage droppred to 14.5 from ~17 mpg. I actually got better mileage with 89 aki without 10% mix than the 91 with. I got 16mpg with the 89. In a recent test, I achieved 18mpg with 93 aki (no ethanol) driving 60 for about 60 miles.
I don't have the MSD as I'm in an '06.
jim383 09-27-2008, 12:50 PM In ca we allways had ethonal in our gas and my last tank was 75/25 intown & freeway and i got 15.6.
mortimer 09-27-2008, 02:12 PM Yeah, now that gas is so pricey some places are even buying sub-grade regular (85 octane) and putting 10% ethanol to make it 87.
It should be OK in any vehicle. Congress mandated back in 1995 that all American cars have to be designed to run on a minimum 10% ethanol blend.
Definitely expect your MPG to be less with a 10% ethanol fuel. It's simple math really, ethanol contains less energy per ounce than gasoline, so if you replace 10% of your gas with ethanol, you have to burn more to get the same amount of combustion. Funny how ethanol advocates keep saying its cheaper and easier to produce than fossil fuels . . . but the price at the pump is usually the same as pure gas?
gwenstefni 09-29-2008, 05:08 AM Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol), the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a biofuel alternative to gasoline, and is widely used in cars in Brazil. Because it is easy to manufacture and process and can be made from very common crops such as sugar cane and corn, it is an increasingly common alternative to gasoline in some parts of the world.Anhydrous ethanol (ethanol with less than 1% water) can be blended with gasoline in varying quantities up to pure ethanol (E100), and most spark-ignited gasoline style engines will operate well with mixtures of 10% ethanol (E10).[1] Most cars on the road today in the U.S. can run on blends of up to 10% ethanol,[2] and the use of 10% ethanol gasoline is mandated in some cities where harmful levels of auto emissions are possible.
