: Reverse Tilt Mirrors
NERVOUS 04-20-2006, 12:04 PM I am not exactly sure why, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 does NOT come with the reverse tilt mirrors feature. My 300C SRT8 has this feature so I almost immediately took note of the fact that the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 does not. Although you cannot enable/disable this feature via the EVIC controls, it can be enabled!
For those of you that would like to have this feature enabled all you have to do is ask your dealer to modify a configuration setting in your ECU - See below for more details.
The dealer will have to use DRB to enable this feature. I do not know what DRB stands for, but my dealer knew exactly what I was referring to when I mentioned the term. From what I understand, it is a small hand held computer type of device made specifically for interfacing with the ECU.
Have a service technician do the following with DRB:
- Navigate to the FCM screen
- Select "ECU Details"
- Select "More Options"
- Select "Reverse Tilt Mirror" feature (Current Status will read "Disabled")
- Select "Enable"
The service technician that made this change for me mentioned something about the feature being tied to the Memory Seat Module. If you have trouble finding the feature, look here too.
FYI, this should be done free of charge as it only takes ~5 minutes to do.
Now I have reverse tilt mirrors in the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8! Given the elevated seating position of this vehicle I feel that this functionality should be a standard feature.
I would like to credit ResumeSpeed from the Chrysler 300C & SRT8 Forums (http://www.300cforums.com) for telling me about this. ;)
banginsrt8 04-20-2006, 03:59 PM thats one of the first things i had done definately comes in handy when parking etc
teddy833 04-20-2006, 04:04 PM What do you mean when you say Reverse Tilt? Do you mean the mirrors collapse inwards like they do in the Escalade?
banginsrt8 04-20-2006, 04:24 PM the outside left/right mirrors move down when u put the vehicle in reverse, for backing up into spaces etc. when u put it back into drive they move back up to your set positions.
i wish they had the option to FOLD IN power operated, that would be nice as well for parking on streets so nobody clips a mirror off, the bmw has that feature
our 4.8is bmw has that feature and its saved bumping wheels against curbs when parking

Ok thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering why it didn't have it. It does it in my Benz and in my Acura. I thought it was odd that the jeep couldn't do it though. I was reading the manual and I noticed that the regular Grand Cherokee has Folf In mirrors. I wonder why they didn't have that option with the SRT8
banginsrt8 04-20-2006, 04:32 PM yes i did notice that option as well its a power fold in feature in the manual, i think avail in the commander? duno why it wasnt put on ours
ResumeSpeed 04-20-2006, 08:01 PM The power fold mirrors has been available on export model Grand Cherokees for many years. The Jeep debut for that feature here in North America was on the 2006 Overland. The 2007 Grand Cherokee Overland and the 2007 Jeep Commander Overland will have the power fold mirrors but those will be the only Jeep models to have them.
2MCHPSI 04-20-2006, 08:58 PM If the overland has them, that means we should have the ability to add this feature to our cars. Is it an additional button, or is the mirror adjust knob different? (push down to fold in, etc.) I'm sure the wiring may be different as well, I'm just curious to see what would be required to do this, especially if it is as simple as adding a factory switch if the wiring is already there for it.

Based on the 2006 user's manual the power folding mirrors are operated by rotating the mirror knob beyond the L and R positions. In other words, to fold the driver's side mirror in you would rotate the mirror knob to the L position and then continue rotating further until the power fold feature initiated. You would have to hold the know in position until the mirror folded in completely.
As far as I can tell the mirror knob in my Jeep does not rotate past the L and R positions. So, i would assume that it is not compatible with the power fold feature.
banginsrt8 04-21-2006, 04:40 PM yah looking at the picture in the owners manual , the power tilt in nob looks like there is a icon where you would turn the nob past L/R for the fold in feature to work, that we dont have on the SRT 8 jeep
Rob Dance 04-23-2006, 10:43 AM Tilt - reverse and fold in mirrors come as standard on the UK "Overland" spec GK`s
There is a seperate button within the mirror control set to operate this function.
Don`t know if the UK SRT8 will have this feature.... just have to wait till June to find out !!
z28plus 04-24-2006, 02:45 PM Would this be pointless for me if I never park on the street, and the srt8 sits in the garage?
2MCHPSI 04-24-2006, 02:59 PM Nope, I use it everytime I park (backing up) and it really helps when reversing to see little things on the ground you may run over otherwise.
NERVOUS 04-24-2006, 10:36 PM I personally find it extremely useful for daily driving... Reversing into a parking spot... Reversing out of the garage... etc.
