I've seen a few people talk about an in cabin air filter from Mopar - I think it was teda and trainer??? I looked at the owner's manual but couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me more about this? I'm interested in getting one.

Thanks.

Here is some info on the filter: http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_cabinair.htm

I installed it on my SRT8. It's fantastic, and makes a noticable difference in air quality inside the cabin. A must have in my opinion!

The plastic "frame" that the filter sits in is pretty flimsy. I had to secure the cover on with electrical tape, as the molded plastic tabs did not line up.

All of the MOPAR sites say no cabin air filter is available for a 2006 JGC SRT8. Do we buy the one with the part number listed on the wkjeeps site

I'm looking at my invoice from my dealer now at it is part number 82208300 with a description of "filter CA S " That's all I can tell you. That was the whole kit.....as Wk site says, it is described as kit for 1999-2005 WJ, WK. Good luck.

Maybe because we have to buy the 1999-2005 model for our 2006's the tabs don't line up, as appayipyip pointed out. Oh well, I guess I will have to get one anyway :)

Should be getting mine this week. Does it really make a big difference? From day one of owning the GC I always get a brief smell of fresh air from the vents (like you get from a home ionizer) after start-up.

It really is a disappointingly cheap design. Yes, you have to use tape to keep it closed.

I do believe it does keep a lot of dust outside of the cabin. As such, it stays a lot cleaner inside.

Great... that should go well with my un-finished headliner header and plastic-ey dash. I guess I'll see how and where to apply the tape when my kit arrives.

The black plastic cover that holds the filter in place does not stay on well as the tabs that are supposed to retain it do not make contact with the cover  I think appayipyip put tape along the top seam to hold the cover to the filter box.

I got my cabin air filter from the following site for $37.24:

http://www.mileoneparts.com

Factory part number is 82208300.

I installed the filter last night, it took about 7 minutes. It took longer than it should have because I initially did not realize that the stock plastic grate needed to be removed! It fits perfectly. You do not need to remove the windshield wiper like the instructions say, just peel back the firewall weather stripping and lift up the top cover to install the filter housing. The two new black plastic press fittings (included) fit where the stock grate was attached to the firewall. When you remove the stock grate be careful to not let the stock plastic press fittings fall into the vent. And appayipyip had the right idea, black electrical tape to properly secure the filter cover to the filter housing. Quick and cheap upgrade!

Here are the pics I took. I didn't take any of the filter and housing going in because I spaced that out!!!:p It goes right in, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Had one installed the first day I got my 08. Question is, how soon or when do we need to replace the filter?

I don't believe that on a vehicle with a sticker price of over $50,000 Jeep scrimps on the cabin air filter! How sad. Perhaps they discovered that these things really don't make that much difference

I'm wrestling with whether I'll go buy the kit because I have a cabin filter on our mini van and have never noticed a difference in the air quality when the filter was brand new or used. Just another thing to replace.

Since I raised the question here's the answer. These are the results of an independent study:

"Results showed that the car without a cabin air filter had more than eight times the carbon monoxide levels and more than 40% greater concentration of mold spores inside the cabin than the vehicle with a cabin air filter. Motorists should expect a cabin air filter to provide similar results with pollen, dust, bacteria and other pollutants, says Nunez.

As for breathing exhaust fumes, gasses and odors, Dr. Sublett says the health benefits of a cabin air filter preventing their entry into a vehicle, "goes without saying. Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, which are everywhere outside as a result of engine combustion, are poisonous substances that can cause headaches and irritate the eyes, nose and respiratory system." Diesel exhaust particulates are also known to trigger allergy and asthma responses, he added."

Interestingly, the report said that "most" cars are now equipped with these filters. Thanks Jeep.

I'm going to put my cabin filter in come springtime. I definitely want to keep the pollens and dust from getting in. However, the study by Nunez has me puzzled. Why a drop in CO? There is no way the element can selectively filter CO - it is not a molecular filter. If it can pass air, it can pass CO. If it does drop CO, then all the better. But how?

Agreed. I just bought a 2007 with low km's and I had no clue up until now that Jeep did not put one in..... very backwards thinking on their part. Now I need to spend more money to have a normal ride like you would think you would get from factory, as I will be replacing my rear brake pads with Akebono's.

I just dont understand this.

I don't give a crap about particulates, does this filter improve the cabin air?... it smells like fart blossoms.

I have a 2002 Chevy van that smells better.
